Good thing i checked this thread last week since i had planned to spend part of this week in Mtl but discovering that the STM was currently on strike i decided to cancel my trip since i use it a lot whenever i’m in the city whether i’m driving or flying there. So thanks for the heads-up or else i would have wasted time & money on a likely very disappointing trip! ;)

FYI they are planning a whole month strike. However city's new mayor wants to cut it down to half a month ;)

I’m surprised they are not considered ‘essential workers’ and still allowed to strike. A transit strike must be chaos on a city the size of Montreal. And it must end up costing the city a fortune all things considered. When will the new mayor be sworn in?

On the plus side, No Nut November will never have been easier!

…who am I kidding: I still jerk off on a daily basis! :p
I think a whole November nut is more appropriate to address the topic though

Well actually they still provide service during peak hours. But in between there is nothing.

And this weekend there will be zero service, a full shutdown for the whole weekend. It will be chaos.
I don’t know if the workers realize this but one day in the not-too-distant future their jobs will be replaced with A.I. and the more they hurt their employer with strikes the quicker we’ll see it happen. With cars now being self-driven in states like California it’s only a time where we see the same thing happen in transits.

I was talking about it yesterday, it's already the case with the REM, no staff on board, not even a driver.

Unions are very bad. They cost the company and economy a lot of money. Eventually being fully automated will resolve these problems once and for all.

^^^^^ The CAQ will advance Bill 89 giving them the power to send the STM workers back to work. The other parties PQ and PLQ are on board with the CAQ on this. I agree with this. Time to send them back to work. The ones hurting the most are students and low wage workers. The STM workers are well paid and have excellent working conditions. This is an example of greedy unions who do not care for the public. I also say the government should classify public transportation as an essential service meaning no more strikes allowed. This was the case in the 70s when a month long strike caused so much chaos. I thought they would have learned their lesson from that.

The thing is drivers are doing a strike this weekend, but the whole month strike is from the maintenance workers. If we are creating more automated machines, they will always need maintenance.

Yes and the drivers want no service at all. Nov 1 there was no service and I saw some fast food joints that were closed. True for needing maintenance workers.

This should have been done a long time ago. They did not learn from the 70s month long STM strike that caused traffic chaos.
