I've never been to a hockey game but I see that there are a few scheduled during my next visit to Montreal in March. Would it be worth it to buy tickets now online or are tickets available on game day? Would a Saturday night game selll out? What about a Tuesday night?

By game time most games, especially Saturday night games and against better teams will sell out, so my advice would be try to buy them online at admission.com. A few single and maybe pairs might be available. If none are available, wait because sometimes they release tickets that they have been holding back. Scalpers would be a last alternative, there are no shortage of them around the Bell Centre. Good luck !

I hate scalpers!

Thanks for your help.

I suggest you do not purchase from scalpers. I have no respect for them and they're very rude on most occasions. Quite a few i've had the misfortune of speaking to did not speak english much. They all hang out outside the Bell Center, even though they're not supposed to be that close to the building. They are extremely annoying and will show up near the arena early in the day. I recommend strongly that you purchase your ticket from www.admission.com, and you have the opportunity of getting a great ticket if you're by yourself. If you do a search of Mtl Canadiens tickets, you will find many websites run by scalpers that sell the tickets at crazy prices.

TICKETS

Hey guys

I usually look on the scedule for the games I want to see, always a saturday game. I call the centre bell ticket office directly, They have a better view of whats available, more so then ticket agencies. I tried a agency back in Nov. for the Jan. 31 canadiens, Bruins game. couldn't get 2 tickets, so I called the centre bell and The lady I spoke with was able to get me 2 tickets.
Good luck have fun.

I couldve had platinum really close to ice, but in the corner, instead I went for Blanc, high up but right about on the "50 yard line". Since its the first real live hockey game I'll ever see. The seat location isnt that important so I went for less expensive but still good.

Ouch! HDH prices, $60 - $85 u.s. in the 400's, the face value of those tickets is $25 to $40 $Canadian.

Did you try through admission.com ?

What/Who are Habs?

Pardon my ignorance, but you'll remember from the 1st post in the thread that I've never been to a Hockey game before. I grew up in a part of the USA where the game just is not part of the culture. I don't know the sport at all, but just thought it would be something different to do in between the other fun activities that I plan on my next visit
So the question is Who are the Habs? Is that short for some team name? Or is it a nickname for the Montreal Canadiens? Thanks.

Habs = Canadiens

Okay, I just answered my question. Since the previous post said he bought tickets to game on 1/31 of Bruins versus Habs, I googled Bruins and checked their schedule.

So now I've got a Part B to my question.....

Part B........What does "Habs" mean? Whats the significance?

Thanks

Habs' hockey tickets

I have been going to hockey games on a regular basis for at least the last 10 years or so, so i'd like to offer my input to those who haven't had the pleasure yet of going to a hockey game in Mtl and would like to do so, at a good and reasonable price:

Always attempt to purchase your ticket (s) directly from the team first. On the net, they sell their tickets through a site similar (and also affiliated) to Ticketmaster. The site is called 'Reseau Admission', and their url is: www.admission.com

You get to pretty much chose how much you want to pay, what type of ticket you want, and where you'll sit (depending on availability). The less tickets you'll want, the better your seat will be. It is not unusual to obtain a seat located right at ice-level, if you chose only to purchase one ticket. Good pairs are more difficult to obtain. The best pairs you'll be able to get usually will be in the 2nd deck level (at a premium cost), which i do not like personally. Too far from the action, and you still pay the same price (or almost) that you'd be paying at ice-level. You can also purchase tickets right at the arena, at their box office located inside the Bell Center.

I absolutely discourage people from buying from those other online sites, including Ebay. There are no bargains to be had there, and the prices the tickets are being sold for are astronomical. To help yourself not to be tempted in spending a fortune just to watch a hockey game, consider the fact that all of the Mtl Canadiens' games are shown on tv. Why pay the price of a HDH for an over-valued game ticket, when you might as well watch it for free on tv in your room or at a sports bar/strip-club?

It's even better if you are willing to wait a few minutes after game time and purchase your ticket from a scalper. The prices usually go down considerably once the game is about to start, since the scalpers are all trying to unload of their excess tickets before it's too late. I know of many people who were able to purchase a top ticket for half price. The scalpers all hang out outside near the arena, throughout the day of the game. They can be fairly annoying if you happen to walk near the arena.

By the way, this Saturday's game against Toronto has been sold-out for months. Games against Toronto have always been full of passion and intensity, and it seems that there are more people at the game cheering for the visiting team than there are for the home team. The same can be said whenever Mtl visits the Leafs in Toronto. I never miss a Mtl-Toronto game since there is always a playoff-like atmosphere whenever these two teams meet. An experienced not to be missed!

This hockey discussion reminds me of this star trek episode where the people on X planet were really calm and mellow and then suddenly the next moment they went all crazy, yelling "festival, festival", all while fighting and smashing windows.

Once I was at St. Catherine cofffee shop, while staying at a nice downtown hotel. It was about 10 PM or so, and I had an apointment at my hotel room with one of Martin's girls, so I left my friends at the coffee shop and told them that I would be back after the session. Everything on St. Catherine, i.e., the people, the traffic, etc, was really calm as I was walking to my hotel. An hour later, I left to rejoin my friends, and man, it was chaos. Cars were speeding through St. C, running red lights, people were drunk in the streets, a fight broke out in front of my very eyes, people were loud and hostile, someone even started a small fire on the sidewalk, and you could smell weed everywhere. I found my friends in front of the coffee shop and one of them had a bloody lip. Later we found out that some Canadian hockey team had beaten another canadian hockey team. Hockey, go figure.

Sounds like almost any US city when their team wins an NBA championship.

BTW

I make it my business to get to a Habs game whnever I'm up in Montreal during the season; and like Justajohn, I wait til the game's a few minutes old and get a ticket from a scalper. I'm willing to pay face value (or maybe a couple of bucks more) for a good seat. No matter who's playing, it's always an experience to watch a game in Montreal and I've yet to have a bad time. The new Bell Centre is beautiful and I've been lucky enough to see the Red Wings and (my fav) the Devils.

Watching a hockey game in Mtl is as good as watching a baseball game at Yankee Stadium....but that leads us to a entirely different thread ;).

Habs versus Devils

Just to let you all know, since I started the thread, I saw my first hockey game this past Saturday.. First of all, It was impressive to see every seat filled at the Bell Centre. The arena itself was quite nice. I liked the look of the ice too. I thought the Molson "blimp" was a clever marketing idea .

My impression was that a hockey game doesnt last long until I realized that it wasnt the 2nd HALF, but the 2nd of 3 periods I was watching. During the 2nd break, I bought a Habs t-shirt to wear proudly back in my native land.

I've got 2 things that maybe one of you could answer.
1st, during the game, a few of the players lost their sticks. On none of these occasions, did any of them make a mad dash to retrieve it though. They did eventually, but none were in a hurry. What is the rule on that? They keep playing without a stick? Would another player closer be able to pick it up for them? What about it as a safety issue? What can they do other than put their body infront of the other team when they have no stick? Can they use their hands?

2nd I saw a couple t-shirts where the habs logo was rotated 90 degrees. Whats that all about?
