Halloween Mike spoke of stings. Pages back, Cloud 500 said something about how much more aggressive with prosecution they are in the US.
The incident that made me take a break from this activity in my home city and led me to Montreal was a bust in a major Southern US city (rhymes with Fanta) almost a decade ago now.
Metro area agencies join to halt 'Atlanta Gold Club Escorts' and 'Lipstick and Shoes Escorts'.

The local authorities set up cameras in the incall and the clients along with the ladies, totaling more than four dozen, had their faces shown on local newscasts. It was horrible! Despite my number being in the call logs and patronizing them often (I even had a lengthy phone conversation with the female owner within weeks of the bust), I wasn't ensnared because I had been requesting outcall for a few years.
There were no noted reports of more serious crimes like human/minor trafficking or drugs, so the bust was strictly about the sale of sex after an anonymous tip. In spite of prostitution being legal in rural Nevada counties (but not in Las Vegas even though authorities might mostly look the other way), America is fairly puritanical about prostitution. That's doubly true in the South.
This is all to say you Montreal folks have far less of a chance of this stuff happening to you, unless drugs or such complicate matters. The environment and attitude towards sex and the sex industry is just different.
