Italian Mafia....

Should'nt the name of this thread be ( Italian maffia "owned" 80% of montreal construction contracts!!)
If you have been reading the news lately you would know that there is not much left of the Montreal maffia. I really dont think that those figures are anywhere near reality. I would estimate 5% would be a closer estimate. Still, .........they really do love building those huge condo units all over the city.

I am not 100% sure about this, but was it not Duplessis that got rich building Quebec ( Montreal ) with some rich quebecois families in the building industry?

La comission Cliche avait fait le menage dans les annees 70 but looks like we have a new breed now of extreme-right wingers who wants to go back to this wonderful era.

That 80% mark may have been closer to the truth in the 1970s. Back then and before they owned 100% of the peperoni sausage and cheese biz. If you did not deal with them, you had no cheese or sausage for your pizza. If you managed to get it from elsewhere they would have burned you out. In the early 80s they even tried to stop Pizza hut from setting up shop by burning out a few stores.

I know a guy that is in the construction business and has built himself up a sizable operation from pay offs. He lived quite well in the past, but is now scared to do business the old way. ( make pay offs ) My guess is that operations like his that was almost guaranteed to get the contracts in the past will shrink and die, the playing field is being leveled off and the smaller guys will get some of the contracts.

la costra nostra AKA the italian mafia owns a lot of business contracts. they also operate through the garbage business and many other ways especially on the east coast in America where im from.

how is this a surprise to anyone? the mob still has some pretty big ties to politicians and government personnel not like they used to because of fbi but don't get fooled if you believe for one second that they still do not have a lot of power.

the italian mafia tries to keep "this thing of ours" which is the meaning of la costra nostra very secretive. now the media always goes into a frenzy when they find out that the mob has something to do with anything because Hollywood and the press love it.

It's all about the kickbacks whether it's at the city, provincial, or federal level

My question is, will the kick backs and pay offs stop now that there may be people watching these transactions.

Well today was fun to watch this Charbonneau commission (which our late cl*wn of a premier was forced to create after 2 years of lying)...

..specially the part that the GRC had proof since 2006 about the mafia-Construction scheme without giving it to Montreal or Quebec police.

So
1-The Feds are once again responsible of hiding important facts which led people to think that Quebec was the most corrupted province.
2-We now know the same scheme is going on in Ontario as well with the same results which makes Ontario as corrupted.
3-It is clear now that if our late ret*rd premier had his way, we would still be waiting for the Quebec police investigation since they didn't get sh!t from the Feds.

Funny how it reminds me of Omerta in which not only the mafia was in cahoot with the Hells but with some Feds as well, both in the provincial and federal gov.

But I don't know why !

Well... not only Montreal is gov. by collusion with the Mafia but guess who's in the middle of it all ? Another hardcore federalist !

Anyway,

At least Ontario is getting it's own "medecine" :
http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/art...es-find-refuge-in-ontario-italian-police-warn

Funny that none of the Feds who kept bashing Quebec for being the most corrupted province didn't see this coming all the way up their .... in Ontario too ! :eyebrows:

Feds and Italian Mafia ! what a combination !

They must have a lot of goods on that guy testifying at the commission, he is a dead man! He probably has to give up all his car and homes and live in a shack in Come By Chance, Newfoundland after this is all over.

Look at Sammy "The Bull" Gravano, after his damaging testimony against Gotti he had plastic surgery and went into hiding, wrote a bestselling book and they have never found him in 20 plus years. I think he is in Arizona somewhere living very low profile.

Who knows ?
Somehow I think even the ones who'd like to see him dead will have to deal hard for their own safety !

As in so many times through out history ... looks like something will start over here in Quebec to spread all over Canada.

One thing is sure now, TO is deeper in than Feds wanted to believe.
And to some extent, deeper than Montreal

Now where is my post from last year about this....

Wait there's some more !
Construction firm was also involved contributing regularly to Liberal Party coffers. Mr. Zambito took part in fundraisers for Ms. Normandeau at a time when she was municipal affairs minister and Mr. Zambito was a major builder bidding on public-works contracts. For one Liberal Party fundraiser that he organized, he’d invited his contacts in engineering and construction firms and set the price for two attendees at $10,000; however, he said, because the legal contribution limit is $3,000, guests were told they would have to write four cheques for $2,500 each, which could be signed by friends, family or employees.

He also said he was approached by a Liberal organizer and fundraiser for former Liberal labor minister David Whissell; the man came to Mr. Zambito’s office to seek a donation of $50,000 to the Liberal Party to help solve a problem for the contractor.

Ouch !

His largesse to Ms. Normandeau, who was also deputy premier in the Charest government, didn’t stop at flowers. Mr. Zambito also sent nine tickets to her office to attend a Céline Dion concert in his private corporate box at Montreal’s Bell Centre, he told the commission. The evening of the concert, Ms. Normandeau showed up with her bodyguard and a member of her family; she was joined by her chief-of-staff and other political staffers in the Liberal government.

At one point, the gathered guests heard a knock on the door of the corporate suite. Two high-profile politicians appeared: Quebec education minister Michelle Courchesne and Gilles Vaillancourt, the long-time mayor of Laval, whose city includes Ms. Courchesne’s riding. Last week, Mr. Vaillancourt’s home, and Laval City Hall, were raided by Quebec’s anti-corruption squad.

OMG ! Say it isn't so ?
Hardcore federalists involved in a corruption scheme ?
To go see Celine Dion ?

I just can't believe it !
Probably were eating poutine !

If anyone had any doubts !

All 5 sidewalk contractors who shared all the contracts for Montreal were from the same village in Sicily which happens to be the same as Rizutto. Nicolo Milioto, Dominico Cammalleri, Joe Borsellino, Alex Sciascia and Joey Piazza.

Courtoisie de la comission Charbonneau...

Pof ! just another post !

Are people that naive to think that all government officials and politicians are all clean.

Where there's power there's corruption, it's just to what extreme the corruption grows to until it's out of control.

I was told by a guy that does repairs on buildings that the janitor in charge of big apartment building will ask for 20% of the top of price for repairs. Some of these janitors allow the contractors to pad the bills so that they get a cut of the contract. Sort of a mini mafia.
