If it was a job related lie, I'd be concerned, but it wasn't.

This question has not been answered, and Pelosi has ordered an ethics probe to answer it. Apparently porn star Ginger Lee said he was communicating on a telephone line reserved for US Congressional purposes. His calls to her had absolutely nothing to do with US Congressional business. However, he said he did not do anything in his official capacity or use US Congessional reserved methods of communication to pursue the lewd behaviors. This will be probed.

The guy has a right to do whatever he wants on his own time, but he has no right to use taxpayers funds to pursue his lewd fetishes. Spitzer never used a dime of public monies and only used his own funds to hobby, and that is why he did not get charged with anything. It is sounding to me like Weiner has more to worry about than Spitzer, even though Weiner never actually did anything with the women he contacted, whereas Spitzer fucked scores of high priced escorts.

You are correct. If he used government property, then he violated ethics rules. He should resign. How many people have been dismissed in private industry and in government because they were caught looking at porn using on the job property. Probably quite a few. Many companies have such warnings in their orientations and company handbooks.

It's unbelievable to me that this guy, who is an attorney, put some of these things in writing. To say that power corrupts would probably be incomplete because it not only corrupts the soul, but also eviscerates common sense.!

Beaver -- I think it has more to do with hubris than anything else. The dude learned from the best -- Chuck Schumer -- about being a lethal political operative.

Charlie Rose and Nightline both did a piece on Weiner on last night's program. Weiner, as you know, rocketed to stardom largely because of his patron -- Chuck Schumer.

The dude is no Kelvin Kline model but he's got power and I figure women are attracted to power -- so why he needed to jerk off is incomprehensible to me, when he could have willing ladies to give him HJ's or BJ's.

Like you said, he's toasted. He made way too many enemies to maintain his power. He'll be doing lobbying work. For sure, he'll lose his law license for moral terpitude.

I'm sure DSK is glad some of the heat is being deflected away from him.

All of those women politicians can't be all saints; I've got to think some of them are carrying out extramarital activities.

Day Dreamer -- you are 1,000% correct. Let me be the one who caused you to post your 1,000th post on Merb, a huge milestone. LOL. :)

His father is a lawyer, maybe that's the confusion. Jon Stewart was his college roomate ... need I say more!

If all of the episodes of the the current (and final) season of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" haven't been written or made, they may do an episode involving DSK and Weiner -- fusing the facts from both cases in one episode. Last Sunday's episode had the NY mayor being murdered by his trophy wife -- the mayor was getting GFE from an escort (can we say Eliot Spitzer) and his jealous wife gave him nitrate knowing he had taken Viagra for his GFE session. And the mayor paid the escort's BF to have sex with his wife. Merlot might enjoy this espisode as it dealt with the upper eschelon of fine wine. :)

Weiner's episode did not break any laws, so why are you grouping DSK in with Weiner (as much as I hate the arrogant SOB's guts). They are both miserable Socialists, but that does not make Weiner a subject of law and order. DSK, yes.

Weiner on Wife Support

Weiner's Saudi Arabian American wife, Huma Abedin, is reportedly a powerful behind the scenes force in the Democratic party and former top aide to Hilary Clinton, and she is working hard to save her husband's career and soup up the life support:

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/perv_pol_on_wife_support_JYp14o1Sy5bqb4WIxzbW9H

According to a report in yesterday's NY Post, Abedin is widely respected in Democratic circles and party bigs are more upset with her humiliation by Weiner than they are with Weiner's antics, this according to legendary Democratic strategist James Carville.

Where I belong.
The nature of Weiner's lie is irrelevant. To lie about sending a weenie photo or getting blown by an intern in the oval office is one thing; however, to lie about knowingly going to war on doctored intelligence or to lie about policy promises or official actions is quite another. Some matters in some contexts (official ones) demand honesty, while other matters in other contexts (private ones) do not. Lets keep the nature of the lie in context. He lied about something personal that we really have no need or right to know. If it was a job related lie, I'd be concerned, but it wasn't.
Bingo. And let us not forget that these war criminals have never been charged for their crimes. And they and their corporate friends, as well, retain the enormous wealth garnered from the blood they shed.

Holy crap, how do you recover from this sort of thing? Is this guy toast?

I heard on the radio this morning that a poll in his district was taken and 51% still support him. So there's nothing to recover from. His constituents have the same low standards as he does. Or, they just don't want to admit that one of their own is such a loser.

Day Dremer -- I agree with your sentiments that what DSK did is far, far egregious and likely criminal (if he's is convicted). The emotional betryal Weiner committed against his wife is no less paintful for his wife, who, Beaver noted, is trying to help prop up Weiner's political career. As you know, the "Law & Order" franchise mixes and matches various unrelated true events (disguised to protect to "innocent" folks") to spin a story line for each of its episodes. It's entertainment so the producters/writers/directors of that franchise indulges its audience with the greast possible "artistic license."

I love the most recent one liners from Mod 11 and EB.

I forget which talking point that is? It's probably #1, because I've seen many times.

This guy has never held any real job other than a politician. What do you think he'll do if he is forced to resign?

He could sell Weiner Schnitzels out of a truck, or lobby for the weiner industry.

EB -- you are having way to much fun, in a Kosher way. :) Sorry, I couldn't resist stealing your lines. LOL!

NYT is reporting that Huma Abedin is in the early stage of pregnancy.

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/06/08/weiners-wife-is-pregnant/?hp

thats what I was worried about .... she must feel like shit.
but really, she has been around the Clintons for around 15 years,
she must have been stupid in love to marry him.
this guy really is not that smart.

I know what Michael Corleone's wife Kay would do but now that the NY Times has announced to the world that she's pregnant, abortion is out of the question.

This story is not going away unless something big happens.
he is hoping and praying for a tragic celebrity death or a terrorist attack to get this off the media radar.

I would put a suicide watch on him.
