By the way, that family are middle high class white citizens, not black citizens.
Guns don’t care what colour you are.
There are far too many black on black shootings and far too many committed by white men also.
The only reason I see that there is more black gun violence is because there is more poverty amongst them and hence more desperation to survive somehow.
The best form of deterrent would be programs that give them hope and allow them to end the poverty they live in.

The photo below showing kids having lunch at school was made in France at the beginning of 50’s.

It was recommended for kids drinking not less than 0.5 L of table wine per day. Wine was considered good both for the physical and the mental health. Now the drinking age starts at 21 and we have mass shootings at schools …

Are you writing about mass shootings at schools in USA ?
Do you propose that kids should drink wine in elementary school to stop mass shooting at schools ?
If it is what it takes, why not ?

Well, mankind has consumed alcohol for thousands of years, so no way that it is all harmful in moderation. Maybe fighting alcohol has its dark side by increasing stress, anxiety and all kind of mental deviations. It is not for nothing that industrial development with its stressful work environment goes hand in hand with an increase in alcohol consumption. Just 70 years ago Japan, Korea and China had very little per capita alcohol consumption. Now they have a well-developed drinking culture. I am convinced that mental health issues are at the core of the mass shooting problem. Alcohol is a time verified way to reduce stress.

I saw on CNN that hearing is held in court on the sentencing of the two parents.

The two parents have been sentenced to 10-15 years.
The mother told that she would act the same now as she did at the time !
She deserve double the sentence received !

People like that should never have children.
Unfortunately there are so many fucked up parents today and it totally reflects on their children.

Everyone,

The moderation has repeatedly asked members of different political stripes to discuss their differences with respect and in accordance with the Forum Rules.

In light of recent events, your collaboration in achieving this is needed and essential.

If you believe that some members are breaking the Rules, use the Report tool or send a private message to the moderation, and the matter will be looked into.

If it is not possible for you to engage in political discussions without goading, or trolling other members, do not engage with these members - or simply stay away from the political discussions. Period.

Anybody taking advantage of current events to start shit-stirring of any kind should expect to be suspended until the end of the electoral cycle in the United States.

Thanks for your collaboration.

It was about time ! We're on Sept 4 th and today was the first mass shooting in an American High School.
Only 2 students and 2 teachers killed and about 9 students wounded hospitalized.
The authorities and the 14 years old shooter parents were aware of the danger he represented.
His parents made sure he didn't have access to their firearms but somehow he got his hands on the firearm per excellence for mass shooting : an AR-15 !

Kids just went back to school! You can't have school shootings when school is out for summer break in most places. First week of school in most places was last week. For there to be school shootings, you need kids to be in schools with guns. If they are at home on summer breaks, there are no school shootings.

Not surprised about school shootings in today’s world, with the way kids are brought up today.
When Johnny doesn’t get what he wants instead of working for it he gets pissed and gets a gun.

Parents today want to be buddies with their children instead of being a parent.

I think your post somewhat touches on the real reasons for the problem of mass shootings. The majority of the posts in this thread parrot, like Sheep, the media narrative about poor gun control. The real reasons for the epidemic of shootings has more to do with the disintegration of the family nuclear unit, the high divorce rate, poor parenting, loss of core values, loss of respect for authority. It's an endemic societal problem, and it's one reason for the popularity of a populist like Trump. People really need to start looking inward rather than outwards for the solutions to these issues. This breakdown in personal accountability is just one other symptom of the underlying issue. So long as we react like so many Sheep, as have many in this thread, there will be no solutions and only more shootings. Time to start analyzing the real issues at play here.

I knew that, just expressing my pain in what happenned so early in the school period.
It shouldn't happen at all in schools.

The availability of war weapons only multiply the number of victims.
I wonder if the extremely violent computer games and movies are contributing to the violence too.

I don't disagree that there are many factors at play in these horrific shooting and that today's society is more complex, complicated, and challenging than ever before - but that's true with every generation. However you conveniently omit the most germane factor - the overwhelming amount and easy access to guns in the United States. I, like most Americans, are in favor of gun safety measures. I submit that the sheep are those who blindly follow the gun lobby and ignore that they are the largest part of the gun problem in America.

Trump comment was that the shooter was a monster, that is true or a mentally ill teenager would be appropriate.
No omment on use of assault rifle, the same type used on his assassination attempt last month.
NRA influence ?

I don't believe access to guns has substantively changed from the 1980s to now. In most of the States where these shootings have occurred, it is no harder to get a gun now than it was in 1980. Or 1960. School shootings are mostly a popular event since Columbine 1999, and are a social event of the 21st Century. I challenge all of you to explain how it is that gun control laws substantively changed since the 1970s to now, or even before that. They haven't.

So I don't agree unless facts are cited explaining how the gun laws are any different in the states where these shootings occurred. There is a before and after on school shootings: Columbine 1999. There is no other before and after.

It mostly has to do with other societal factors, factors which all of us having something to do with. The finger pointing at the NRA is easy, they are the proverbial low hanging fruit in this debate. Not so easy is looking in the mirror. Looking at how you raised your kids to be monsters. How you allowed them to have phones and watch movies extolling violence. Allowed them to play video games blowing other people away, playing Rambo like characters. You are all guilty. We all need to look in the mirror and smell the coffee!

There are over 400 million guns in the US held by civilians. That is about 50% of the total in the world. Today's guns, like assault weapons, are more lethal than the guns on the 1960s or 1980s. There were fewer mass shooting gun deaths during the 1994 to 2004 when assault weapons were banned nationally. There are fewer mass shootings in states, like mine, where assault weapons are banned today. Those of us who believe in common sense gun safety regulations understand that societal factors are part of problem, but that the biggest factor is the obscene amount of lethal weapons that exist and can easily be used by disturbed individuals to murder innocent people.
