Here's an article clearly illustrating the ignorance and foolishness of people who stupidly and incorrectly think the gun crisis has no relationship to political affiliations. The Democrat wants to implement sensible gun laws while the Republican dirtbag cries crocodile tears but will fight to the end to protect gun lovers (some of whom end up being killers or even mass killers) and wouldn't dream of keeping even assault weapons out of the hands of anyone. Wake up, everyone whose head is in the clouds and can't see the difference between the Democrats and the stinking GOP on the gun issue and many others!

In the Kentucky governor's race, the gun policy debate is both personal and political (msn.com)

With all due respect, I think your post is a little naive. Whether Republican or Democrats, politicians are beholden to their constituents, and there are large swaths of the United States that are rural and in which guns and hunting are a way of life. If the politicians in those districts support gun control, they do not get re-elected. It is really that simple. It is called political survival mode.

The other layer of naivete is to believe that gun control laws, if implemented, would automatically end these tragedies. Simply not true, and certainly not true in this case. The perp here was a military weapons instructor, and he would have had access to the weapons he had no matter what the laws were. This tragedy was not going to be stopped for the simple reason that it is impossible to find a legal method to eliminate all cuckoos in the world from access to these weapons. The victims, unfortunately, were all in the wrong place at the wrong time, and were shot dead. It was bad luck on their part and nothing would have stopped it from happening unless their day had gone differently than it did.

Similarly, if any of you happened to be visiting Israel and were at the music festival on October 7 or in Sderot and happened to be walking or driving in the area where the Hamas militants were randomly spraying machine gun fire on innocent civilians, you would be FUCKING DEAD. Your politics would not matter, gun control would not matter, you would be as dead as the Maine victims and as dead as a door nail. And all that we could say about your misfortune would be, "dude was in the wrong place at the wrong time." In other words, shit awful bad luck.

This guy is either very conscientious or taking a calculated risk that his constituents are either outraged, or else really love his other political advocacy on their behalf. It will be very interesting to see if he gets re-elected:
Also see this:

"What examples are there to show this divide between rural and urban communities?

The state of Vermont, which Bernie represents as senator, is the most gun-friendly state in the nation, while at the same time it boasts the absolute lowest rate of gun-related crime."

I have spent a lot of time in both States and Maine is a good comp to Vermont in terms of the demographics of the populations.

The majority of Americans want Congress to pass gun safety regulations. So have some courage and integrity republicans in Congress and stop pandering to the gun lobby and to being bought and sold by gun money. Nobody thinks gun safety measures will stop all mass shootings, but if some are prevented, like when there was a federal assault weapons ban, that's better than the current carnage. We must do something. This attitude of doing nothing except expressing "thoughts and prayers" is craven and defeatist. We are capable of doing better and we must do so now.

Last time I looked Republicans were Americans as much as Democrats and politicians who refuse to do anything are elected by Americans.
There are millions of Democrats hanging on to their sacred guns as much as Republicans.
All this bullshit blame the other party is ridiculous , until Americans want gun control overwhelmingly nothing will happen.
Americans themselves created this they only have themselves to blame for it and only they meaning future generations can change it. because this one still believes hopes and prayers will do it.
It will be a along hard process and many innocent victims will die for years to come.

Military style guns are meant for, nothing else except killing people and as many as possible in the least amount of time they are not for sport or recreation or self défense or anything of value there is no reason anyone not in law enforcement or the military should possess one.
yet Americans still don’t agree enough to start getting rid of them.

You are correct about the purpose of assault style weapons and their place, or lack thereof, in civil society.

The rest of your post is false equivalency and revisionist history regarding how this happened and what to do about it. It is Republicans in Congress, and Republicans only, who refuse to act because they are owned by the NRA and the gun lobby. That's a fact. That's the truth. That's reality. Bullshit is trying to blame the Dems for what Republicans so proudly proclaim - their perverted 2nd amendment rights that results in mass slaughter of innocent citizens.

Face it, Jazzman: Some people never learn, as we are seeing in this very thread. And I'm not talking about EB, who has made some good points himself.

Of course there is no perfect solution but everything you have written in this thread is accurate and some people are still unable to see the wisdom of your facts. A lot of what EB said is also true, but there's an old saying that "the perfect should not be the enemy of the good", so let's at least do what we can. Even a partial solution is better than none...and anyone who can't see the difference between Democratic and Republican attitudes toward intelligent gun laws is blind, ignorant, stupid, stubborn or some combination of those.

By the way, over EIGHTY PERCENT of Americans, whether they like or dislike the second amendment, are in favor of more restrictive gun laws (albeit to varying degrees), so that kind of destroys the "politicians can't do anything about it" argument. It's true that politicians might not be able to go far ENOUGH in the right direction but they can certainly take positive steps there. Any improvement is better than none...and certainly better than scumbag Republicans actually making gun laws LESS (!) restrictive because they're OWNED by the gun lobby.

Here's something both laughable and sickening: Although it sounds anatomically impossible, Lauren "Guns" Boebert, one of the most ardent gun-LOVERS there is, had the balls to say her "thoughts and prayers" were with the loved ones of the most recent victims! Bobo's thoughts and prayers are as useless as she is. It's largely because of worthless scum like her that so many innocents continue to be slaughtered. What a piece of trash. She should stick to what she does best: getting kicked out of theaters for obnoxious behavior.

What is bullshit is that you keep up this nonsense and won’t own up to the fact that It is only when an overwhelming majority of Americans demand change that it will happen and that includes Republicans and Democrats and when all Americans stop this bullshit of blaming one party or the other and unite as they should. Politicians will bend to the overwhelming majority the scum that they all are. There are millions upon millions of guns in the hands of Democrats also high time you all stopped this bullshit and own it.

Sorry but I continue to find your argument weak, unpersuasive, and repetitive. Since when is an "overwhelming" majority required to enact change especially legislation that will save lives? Who determines when the majority is "overwhelming "? Not you. Not me. Not partisan politicians who are funded by the NRA. For those of us who still believe in democracy, true self-governing democracy, a simple majority rules.

All of that notwithstanding what do Americans think about gun safety regulations? In recent Pew polling 58% of US adults (democrats, republicans, and independents) favor stricter gun laws. Specifically 88% favor preventing people with mental illness from buying a gun. 79% want the minimum age for buying guns increased to 21. 66% want to ban high-capacity ammo magazines, 64% want to ban assault weapons.

If Republicans in Congress would end their constant opposition to gun safety measures that the majority of Americans want, the US would be a safer and more democratic (small d ) country.

You can argue all you want it is in the hands of Americans and that includes Democrats and Republicans.
All your arguments are just pure nonsense and a game blaming someone else or a particular party.
Americans want change then force their politicians to do it.
Who put the Republicans in Congress ? The American people did .
This bullshit has been going on for decades and under both Republican and Democratic governments.
I guess not enough innocent people have paid the price yet for Americans to wake up and do the right thing and that means uniting to stop this madness instead of continually alienating and blaming the other side.
You guys on this forum are a perfect example there is about a dozen of you now on several threads repeating the same tiresome nonsense, nobody is opposing you anymore or trying to reason with you because it is obvious how narrow minded and one sided your arguments are and this is exactly the problem on a much bigger scale in the US it is like two different countries one Democrat and the other Republican constantly blaming each other while innocent people continue to die.
I am done with this thread and politics in general, continue feeling good about yourselves blaming someone else for the insanity that Americans have created for themselves.

Fair enough. I have explained my position with historical data and reason. However, I can't get you to understand when you denigrate a well-argued, factual opposing position as "nonsense". Here's a suggestion: Make your argument and be prepared to defend your position with facts and logic. Repeating an unsubstantiated thought or feeling and hurling insults when you sre presented by cogent counterpoints only weakens your case and the debate. Good luck.

I don’t need to substantiate or prove anything watch the news and the continued slaughter of innocent people by military style weapons.
I will leave the blaming and finger pointing to you guys you seem to have that down to an art. I blame all Americans for this it is their country only they have the power to sort it out and stop it.

I live in the US and I am painfully aware of the carnage inflicted by guns in America. It's disgusting. It's unnecessary. It has to stop.

It's not gratuitous "blaming and finger pointing" to identify the reasons why this country is unable to address this problem. It's real simple actually.

Republicans in Congress refuse to budge an inch on gun safety because they are funded by the NRA and gun lobby. Unfortunately Republican voters, many of whom support gun safety measures, continue to vote for Republican candidates who won't act against the gun industry. The problem with too many guns in America that result in mass killings is purely a Republican created problem. From the voters to the candidates to the Senators and Congressmen, to the Republican Party at large.

The only measure I remember was by Trump that prohibited the sale of Bump stocks after the 60 deaths mass shooting in Lad Vegas.
These Bump stocks practically transform semi-auto AR-15 to full auto.
The new fashion is Swich triggers that transform semi-auto pistol in full auto pistol. It is sold to anyone.

Unfortunately, the ban on bump stocks has been overturned by federal appeal courts. It will likely be decided ultimately by the SCOTUS.

.
This part I totally agree with the rest not at all.
It is total bullshit that all the guns in America are exclusively in Republican hands and they are solely to blame for this carnage that never seems to stop.
Democrats have been in power many times and have achieved nothing and continue to do nothing because so many Americans are still in love with their guns and do not want to let go of them.
You are all Americans you truly want this madness to stop then stop fighting amongst each other and make it happen.

I never said that all guns in America are exclusively owned by Republicans. You made that bullshit up.

However it is true that the states with the highest gun ownership rates are all red republican dominated states. Montana, Wyoming, West Virginia, Idaho, Alaska, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Mississippi, North Dakota and Alabama top the list. About one third of US adults owns at least one gun. Republicans and Republican leaning independents are twice as likely to own a gun than Democrats and Democrat leaning independents. These are facts not opinions.

In order for Democrats to legislate meaningful gun safety laws, and overcome Republican obstruction, they need to control the majority of the House, 60 seats in the 100 seat Senate ( because of the filibuster rule ), and the White House. Obtaining that kind of majority is unheard of in today's deeply divided America. You and I have been over this before, just recently in fact, so you might want to pay closer attention or take notes.
