Delta Centre Ville

Denis,

I agree with you on the Delta CV - my favorite hotel in Montreal. Lord Berri to me is a 2.5 star hotel. I recently stayed at Sofitel for $82(US) which I got on Priceline. It was the second time I stayed at Sofitel and it is nice (small rooms but excellent service), but I liked Delta CV better.

Stayed at Le Nouvel Hotel. Around where Guy and Rene Levesque intersects. A bit of a walk, but not too far. Did not have sp guests, but elevator is right infront of the reception desk. Condo apartments require access key for elevators, regular hotel rooms do not.

Receptionist was extremely hot. Would not mind paying good money if she worked as a sp. Too bad I can only dream.

Hotel amenties were average. Room was average. Booked through expedia, supposedly 3 star hotel.

Anyone has any experience at Hilton Garden Inn/Doval Airport? Just booked it for 85. A surprising price for a 4-star hotel. Is there any catch to it?

I have stayed at a few hotels in the area and quality range requested by chercherfemmes. Hotel St. Denis (I think you are referring to the one just south of St. Catherine-I think there is another with a similar name) is ok. You do need to walk through narrow entry way past the reception desk. The hotel is nothing special but is clean with basic amenities, but I recall the rates being somewhat reasonable, around $100 per night, but this was two years ago. Hotel books up fast, but I do not think that it is ever listed on the web travel sites. You should probably call the hotel directly for reservations. The room sizes do vary, as some of the rooms have smaller layout with a stall type shower, no tub.

You may also consider Lord Berri, on Berri, just north of Rene Levesque. Probably a little overpriced for the quality, but the location is good. Hotel is large enough that there are always people coming and going. I have never had a problem there. Hotel seems to book up faster than it should. Rates usually $140+

Travelodge on Rene Levesque is less than a block west of St. Laurent, but really not far from the area you are considering. The quality is not so great based on size of rooms, but it offers basic amenities, and some of the lowest prices for the chain type hotels. No problem with guests, although you need room keycard for elevator after 10 pm or so. Large hotel, so even later guests are likely to be able to get on elevator when someone else is going up.

Better hotel for quality, but higher priced, is the Suites Faubourg, on Rene Levesque, a few blocks east of St. Laurent. These are apartment style rooms with full kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The hotel is less than two years old. They also have rooms with two beds and a kitchen, without the seperate living room. Rates usually between 150-200 per night. No problem with guests.

chercherfemmes,

If you follow the recent bids on the biddingfortravel website, you can pretty much choose any hotels that is on Priceline. For the Holiday Inn Centreville, just keep your bids low and you'll get it since its the lowest priced of the 3* category, followed by the Delta Montreal (haven't seen it pop up this summer), Renaissance Du Parc (now a student dorm) and then the Wyndham. Spending some time going through the biddingfortravel website can get you some great deals; I managed to secure a room at the Holiday Inn for USD30/night in mid August, now if I can only persuade the hotel to buy it back from me.....

Sofitel and Renaissance

While in Montreal, I used a number of times the Sofitel (on Sherbrooke) and the Renaissance (on Du Parc).

Of course, prices vary according to the season (low season being roughly from October to May).

No escort reported problems to me getting through the lobbies. The hotels know, the staff knows, this is business and as long as it is done within certain limits, they won't aleniate the paying customer.

I got a "web" price at Sofitel from their web site. The room is small but pleasant and the bathroom is excellent. I find it to be conveniently situated. My only disapointment is the rip-off with the car parking. I prefer the way it is done at the Renaissance.

I have stayed at the QE a couple of times. I haven't ordered "room service" when I stayed, but I do not think that it would be a problem so long as your guest looks like she knows where she is going, and is not creating a disturbance. Noone ever stopped me when I walked in and went up to the room late at night. Even if she is unfamiliar, as long as she has your name and room number, the most I can imagine happening would be a call from the concierge to verify the visit. I would not recommend bringing in an obvious streetwalker with platform thigh-high boots, but I don't think that is what you are talking about!
I know also that the QE has some high priced "concierge floors" where there is a special reception desk right on the floor, but I doubt that you would be staying there on a priceline special price. Even then, unless you are embarrassed by the idea of the hotel employee knowing you are receiving a guest, I don't think it would be a problem. The hotel staff is very helpful and accomodating of the guests needs, and I'm sure does not care who you are seeing in the privacy of your room.

As far as the hotel itself, I did not think that the rooms were anything special. Nice, but not much different than any of the major chains. I would certainly go back if the price was right. The location is nice, especially in the winter, as you are connected to the underground malls. You can walk/shop for miles without ever going outside. Also, the train station is a few levels below.

Stayed there once 2 years ago. NO problems wiht SPs because of the setup. Unless your SP is dressed like a street ho, coming in at 3:30 AM, you should not have aproblem there. Rooms? well those are standard rooms. Mine did not have a minibar. Which is just fine, after the SP in my Ritz-Carlton room raided the minibar for $35.
Good luck.

I totally agree with all of your comments on the Sofitel. The parking is $24(CDN) per day which is an insane rip off. Also, they park your car in an unknown location "a couple of blocks away.

Does anyone know of any 3* or better hotels in the downtown area with free parking?
Even the Holiday Inn Select charges $14/day.

Badass, Thanks

Badass:
Thank you for the info about the Hilton. When I was looking, I did not find any downtown hotels that offered complimentary parking. The Hilton charges $15.00 per day but without in and out privileges, so there is an additional $15.00 charge each time you use your car, unless you use the valet parking for $23.00 per day with unlimited access. However, the Hilton can be reserved for $82.00 (USD) per day on Priceline, which is about half their regular discounted rate or the rate of other three and four star hotels in the area.

Hotwire or Priceline hotels?

Has anyone recently booked through Hotwire?
What are the 4 and 3 star hotels that come up?
For priceline it was Wyndham and Holiday Inn select, as mentioned in previous posts. Is that still true?
Thanks in advance?

Personally, I have never used either only because I like getting airline miles and those sites don't allow miles. I can get a $125 a night at the Residence Inn (which is on what I believe is the west end of Montreal). I will be in Montreal for two nights but have not decide on who to booked (I like the courtseans but I'm not sure if they will visit me at that hotel).

THe 4* has been the Hilton (the 4.5* the Sofitel). The 3.5* has been the Wyndham and the 3*, I believe, has been the HI Select.

How is this hotel? Problems? (my lazy ass could do a search but...):D

I got this from priceline. Have used PL twice, with good results.
I generally try to avoid cheap hotel, but the Delat has been recommended by so many on this board. I wonder whether the rooms are nice or have minibar?

slyguy,

I am debating the same purchase on hotwire (same $80 price). I have a Montreal guide book and places like Clarion Suites (which I can get for $71 on a govt rate), 4 Points by Sheraton, Holiday Inn-Midtown, Courtyard Marroit and Best Western Ville-Marie.

I have stayed at the Clarion (it was Le Moyne Manior at the time) and had no problem with escorts and at the 4 Points (didn't do hobbying that trip). I would think they are more like 3 stars than 4 stars. 4 Points is downtown while the Clarion is near the Atwater metrostop (near the old Forum bldg). Still, they are decent places.

Future Canadian,

Let me know if you go for it on Hotwire. I am still debating on what area to stay. Airport/Dorval, Laval, or downtown.

My only concern with not staying downtown is that the outcall agencies may not bother showing up even if I book early enough. They will probably go to a downtown booking over driving out to those locations.

I have spoke with some agencies, and they say no problem... but I am not sure how reliable they will be when it comes time to deliver... unless business is slow.

I will have to decide tomorrow morning.

Sly,
