I just found this site that estimates entertainers' net worth. They put Shatner at $300 million (far more than I would have ever imagined), and Celine at $400 million.

That's not counting what he got or could get for his Priceline shares and the article so indicates. If you add that he buries Celine. Like I said if he decides to cash in rather than leave it to his wife, he can buy Celine out of everything she owns with that money. Shatner is now in his 80s so all that money including his PL shares probably will go to his wife and/or kids.

The answer to the question is very dependant on demographics. Ask it to men and you'll get a different answer than you will from women. The same thing would apply to age groups or where the respondents happen to live. If you were to ask who the most famous Canadian is to a group of under 25 year olds right now, they'd probably say Justin Bieber. Ask country music fans and they'll say Shania Twain. Ask it to hockey fans and they'd say Gretzky. Alyssa, it's pretty obvious to me that asking your question to primarily French speaking people will give a huge advantage to Celine Dion over any other person. I'd say that Shatner is a much more well known Quebec born personality world wide than Celine Dion but many people wouldn't say that because they think Shatner is American.

The original series of Star Trek is still seen in syndication world wide, more than 40 years after it went off the air. It's also been re-mastered in high definition for Blu-ray release and is one of the top selling television collections ever released on that format. Shatner returned to television in a number of series, the most recent of which was Boston Legal in the role of Denny Crane for which he won a Golden Globe and Emmy in 2005 and was nominated again in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. He also won an Emmy in 2004 for the same role on The Practice. He's one of very few actors to win an Emmy for playing the same character on two different series.

Shatner also wrote a series of sci-fi novels called TekWar that were adapted for a television series and has co-written a number of books set in the Star Trek universe.

To summarize Celine Dion's career....she sings songs.

Most famous Quebecer, world wide, William Shatner without any doubt.

Where I belong.
The fact that Shatner is of the Hebrew persuasion hasn't stopped him from being a ham. He is one lousy actor. And, I repeat, Priceline was already big before they hired him to do those cheesy ads.

At this rate, this thread will exceed 150 pages by Sunday. Keep it up, Beav.

Again, not true, as was already posted by kaydee.

http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/actors/william-shatner-net-worth/

"Here’s the background – Back in 1997, Shatner signed on to be the “Priceline Negotiator” in a series of commercials for the upstart dotcom travel company. At the time, the internet bubble was still growing bigger and companies like Priceline were getting insane stock market valuations in their IPOs. Shatner reportedly insisted on receiving stock as compensation instead of cash. At the time it seemed like a brilliant move, but very soon after the bubble burst and Priceline shares lost nearly all their value falling to a low of $1.8 per share in 2000. Fast forward a little more than a decade and Shatner was still doing commercials and Priceline had made a huge comeback, now trading at over $300 per share. As rumor has it, Shatner didn’t sell any of of his stock during the decade after the bubble burst and his shares were now supposedly worth over $600 million. Shatner has vehemently denied these rumors on several public occasions. He even took to twitter with the following: “Someone stupid said a stupid thing about me making $600M. It ain’t so. Relatives are coming out of the woodwork. Too bad it never happened.”

Regardless of whether or not Shatner held onto any of his priceline shares he is still a very wealthy man with a net worth of $300 million. He probably doesn’t need to worry about negotiating on travel fare anytime."

C'mon Beav, this coming from a guy who swears June is 5'5 when 99% of the guys who have met her tell you shes 5'2

Celine is by FAR the most famous Quebecer in the world today and possibly of all time. Say the name "Celine" and most everyone would say "Dion" (or for a select few here, the word "Fantasies" might be heard, lol) say the name William and then what??? Most people would be shocked to know Shatner is even Canadian let alone a Quebecer. One word out of Celines mouth and instantly people know she is from here. She is a icon as is Shatner, just more known as a famous Quebecer.

PS, i am not a fan of her's at all, it's just simple logic.
Shijak,

This thread is pointless as you have a bunch of people who have no clue of what they are talking about, know nothing about the scope It's bordering on comical. .

Remove the Quebec qualifier from the question and simply ask people who is more famous, Shatner or Dion and see what they say.

Alyssa...the ground you're standing on is quicksand.

lggy!!!You're alive? How's your buddy Mitt doing?

That is shocking considering how much longer Shatner has been around. Then again they didnt pay as well in his Trekkie days as they would of today but still..... Is Celine still in Vegas selling out show after show to people from ALL OVER THE WORLD (not just Quebecers in the audience)

LMAO........am I the only one here who thinks Eager is a major Trekkie?!?!?

No worries, Eager, it's all good.

This whole thread is pretty silly, but fun...
lgna is right, say Celine's name and they likely will know in North America and parts of Europe. They won't readily associate William with Shatner...

However, show an image of Shatner in his Star Trek uniform
http://paper-pencil-pixels.blogspot.ca/2009/04/captain-kirk.html

and show one of Celine
http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/celine-dion/images/32634469/title/celine-dion-photo

around the world and I think you'll get a lot more people recognizing the first image, no?...

Like I said, the more Dion is hiding away from the big spotlight, the less she will be known (current teenagers around the world have no idea who she is, give it 12 years and a second generation won't either...)

I vote for William Shatner. He's almost as popular today as he was back in the 60's when he portrayed James T. Kirk. I loved him in T.J. Hooker, and as much as Denny Crane in "Boston Legal".

Celine Dion is a close second. But it could be a toss-up.

Eager Beaver I agree with you that William Shatner would be number 1 in the running for "most famous Quebecer" in the world .
It seems that many don't accept him as a Quebecois , for the very reasons that you eluded to, but as per the requirement on the original post he does meet the terms.

I would also add that Pierre Trudeau would be more famous then Celine since he has an airport , in the most important city in QC , named after him.

Once again I must yell Bingo because in my mind Shatner has always been the most famous person from Montreal yet nothing there is named for him except a building at McGill. I believe St. Catherine Street should be renamed rue Shatner. Probably this will happen after he dies.

Agree with your post but I don't see Celine as a close second, I see her as a distant second as far as worldwide fame.
