Just rewatched one of my all-time favorite movies, the bombastic and flamboyant Moulin Rouge.
I haven't seen it since the beginning of my hobbying. It definately changed my perception of the movie.
I can relate so much with the main character now. You really have to be careful of the intoxication triggered by a courtesan :p

Penelope Cruz has some great (and funny) scenes as a prostitute in Woody Allen's 2012 film To Rome with Love. She was 38 when she appeared in this movie and wow, did she look hot. And she still does today at age 47.

Question posed in the Sistine Chapel: "Can you imagine working all that time on your back?"
Penelope Cruz: "I can." :D

Last night the Cinematheque screened the 1916 silent classic "Shoes" by the prolific early American director Lois Weber. A cinematographically and dramatically straightforward story of a poor shopgirl whose meager wage is her family's principal source of income. Her faineant father lies on the couch all day reading magazines and smoking his pipe. The girl's shoes are in a shocking state of decay, but her mother commandeers her pay to cover rent and groceries, with nothing left to purchase the snazzy pair of new shoes the girl covets. A randy dandy observes her pining over the shoes and suggests an arrangement that would put the shoes within her reach. For most of the movie, she rejects his advances, but finally gives in, winning the shoes at the cost of her honour. An interesting detail that rings true in my experience is that she reveals all only to her mother, who enjoins her at all costs not to do anything to shatter the father's illusion as to her virginal innocence.

As a cinema lover, it was a real pleasure to read this thread. It reminded me of many good movies such as Irma Ladouce and Leaving Las Vegas. It also gave me a few suggestions for my to see list.

However, i'm surprised there was no mention of Omerta, a french canadian series about organized crime in Montreal during the 90s. It was so popular that there were talks to do an english translation, but it was during the same time HBO was working on the Sopranos.

There are 3 reasons I like this series. It shows how life and sex work was in Montreal pre internet ad when there was an active red light district. The lady mackerel has a human and positive side, which is rare to find this kind of role. Sophie Lorain's character is a street walker but she is also one of the few who has a high sense of ethics and care despite her drug problems.

Unfortunately, I haven't found series where the roles of Johns is realistic. There are often portrayed as violent or idiotic which is not representative.

I watched a movie on Amazon prime recently called Her Name was Christa
Plot:
Stephen is a socially awkward, middle aged telemarketer and is desperately alone. At the suggestion of Nick, a co-worker, he goes out into the night to find a prostitute for "The Girlfriend Experience". With this, he meets Christa, a streetwise call girl who's happy to fulfill his needs. Yet something unexpected happens. What starts as a business agreement blossoms into true love. But what happens when death enters the picture? How far would you go to keep the one person you've always wanted?

This movie was one of the weirdest endings to a movie I've EVER seen, lol. Ok, it's definitely low budget and you won't recognize the actors in the movie, but it fits the criteria of what we're talking about in this thread. I'd imagine many of you on this forum currently find yourself in "Stephen's" position and would relate quite a bit to the main character. I'm not necessarily recommending this movie, but it's rather unique in my opinion because it's unlike any prostitution movie I've ever seen and its worth a look just to check out the ending which will blow your mind.

See Luchino Visconti's episode Il Lavoro (The Job) in the 60s Italian omnibus film Boccaccio 70. A young playboy aristocrat plows his way through all the top local call girls. His wife, the brilliant and sexy Romy Schneider, is nonplussed to read about his exploits in the tabloid newspapers. The ensuing marital friction is resolved when it is agreed that every time the couple has sex, the husband will leave a cash donation for his wife.
(The same film contains a famous Fellini segment featuring Anita Ekberg as the busty model in a billboard advertising milk who comes to life to torment and tittilate an anti-sex moral crusader, and a weak chapter by Vittorio de Sica that nevertheless features Sophia Loren at her absolute sexiest as a prostitute who participates in a scam raffle with her favours as the prize)

Noémie Dit Oui is streaming those days on Montréal's cable, released last year I think... similar themes as Fugueuse except not TVa-style voyeuristic. Sobering.

i loved that movie as a young man. Have not seen it since though
Just watched Poor Things at Cinplex this week and it is one of the best films of the year. Talks a lot about escorting and Emma Stone deserves the Golden Globe and Oscar for her performance and will be shocked if she does not win Best Actress. Emma Stone does everything in the film except for BJ and I like what she says about why they should choose who they want to go with and about cleaness when you see a escort. Everyone must watch this film.

The movie “Sylvia” starring Caroll Baker was one of the best movies i saw about a prostitute. If i remember correctly it was made in the 60’s. Another favorite of mine was a tv miniseries made in the late 70’s starring Leslie Ann Warren. It was called 79 Park Avenue. I found the story similar to Sylvia. More recently the HBO series “White Lotus” had a couple of Italian prostitutes being a big part of the story in its second season. I absolutely loved it! And loved them!

There is a British television series The secret diary of a call-girl starring Billie Piper. In the series her name is Belle, it shows the trials and tribulations of being a high-priced call girl in London. Pretty raunchy for a TV series, I think it ran from 2007-2011. Billie Piper, she also starred in the British sci-fy series Dr.Who.

That girl is so beautiful. I watched that series before entering the industry; I had so much fun! I have to rewatch it eventually. Little did I know I would join the industry myself...

Yes, some parts are romanticized but it's a show after all.
