Robert 21,

For what dates? $89 is an awful lot even for a good 3 star like the Hyatt. I never paid more than $70 for a 3 star bidding on Priceline, and that was last Labor Day weekend booking last minute.

Hotwire has the Hyatt for about $132 for Memorial day weekend, now that's high!

SK,

It appears as though our extended honeymoon with low hotel prices in Montreal, via Priceline and Hotwire, is OVER. In a big way.

From Thurs. 25th-Sun 29th Hotwire has I believe the Vogue for $173/night. Still a bit rich for my blood.

Don't forget the exchange rate...

If you factor in the rising CAD, it could become a lot more expensive for American hobbyists. But even if we reach parity on the exchange rate, I still think it's worth your money.:p

Sean,

My experience is that you should always use a free rebid at an amount below the counteroffer.

It's likely the Omni or the Hilton Bonaventure.

You have 4 free rebids, use them dude. Go to $65, then $69, then $73, then $77. I can practically guarantee you will get it for under the counteroffer price.

Rebids?

Eager,
It says it I must place an offer of $17 more...you can usually retry after 3 days for the same place and level right? Tell me more about rebidding?

You don't need to wait 24 hours to rebid on 4 star hotel bids. You get 4 automatic free rebids because the 4 other geographical areas beyond downtown Montreal have no 4 star hotels, so you simply add a GA and you get a free rebid.

When you receive the counteroffer don't increase by that number, go up in increments of $4 and you will get a taker by your 4th free rebid.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice Eager....I bid $65, then $69, then $73...and got it...Intercontinental Hotel...nice place!!! Total with taxes and fees is $93.96 US...not bad? In this thread we have lamented the days of cheaper hotels...I hope this is a decent deal? I have stayed here before! Do most people know you can bid like this on priceline for a 4 star hotel because of the lack of 4 star hotels in the montreal area? Thanks again!

Eager,

Never thought of that one. Good idea! Does that only work because there are no 4 stars in the other area? Are there any of what they consider 3 stars in the other areas or are they lower?

Sean,

I think that $73 is a good price for a 4 star now. Of course, if you had accepted the counteroffer at $17 more, you would have paid $78, so you saved $5 through the free rebids.

NHBrat,

It works because there are no 4 stars in any of the other geographical areas. Only Montreal has 4 stars, none of the other areas do.

It won't work on 3 stars because all of the other geographical areas have 3 stars.

Stayed last weekend at the Loews Vogue

I don't usually use priceline because I am very specific about the location I want my hotel to be at. I like to be off of Ste. Catherine near Crescent Street, Wanda's and Chez Paree.

The one time I did use Priceline, I got the dreaded Plaza Hotel.

This weekend my two favorite hotels (location/value/price) - BW Europa and Novotel were sold out. Other hotels in the area like the Sheraton or Quality Suites were going for about $180 a night. So we bit the bullet and splurged for the Loews Vogue. It went for about $210 a night. For the extra $30 I felt it was worth it this time. Usually I get the desired hotels for the low $100's.

I can tell you that the Vogue was all it is cracked up to be. The company I had in the room including Oliver stopping by to meet us were very impressed. Spacious bathroom with jacuzzi and separate shower along with a well appointed sleeping area. I would say the mattress could have been a little firmer but if price is not a concern I would always stay there. Where the price difference is minimal I would recommend trying it sometime.

What was best about the Vogue? It is a drunken stumble across the street from Club Wanda's. The only closer hotel is the de la Montagne. I could run out of Wanda's hot and bothered, with my favorite dancer ingrained in my head and be in my bed in a few minutes time. Now if only I could get the favorite dancer to join me.

Any moderate priced Hotels in the area?

Tried using Priceline for a week without success. No takers for under $100 American 3 star.

I did that free bidding in other zones for 4 star hotels without success. (I haven't bid beyond $100) June 6 - 9.

I would have thought the weekdays would be better to find a deal, and that this period before the Montreal Jazz festival would be good

Anyway, looks like I will just book a hotel proper. Is there any moderate inexpensive place to check in Montreal for under a $100??

Sean, those are good prices.

I have been bidding on 4 stars for the Jazz festival and struck out using my 4 free rebids going all the way up to $95. I may go to $110 on my next 5 bids after the 24 hour wait, but no higher than that.

The difference is you are bidding on 1 night stays. On 1 night stays you are going to be able to get 4 stars for as low as $71. If you bid for June 16-18, for example, I doubt $71 would have been accepted.

Sean-

An update - I was rejected on Priceline 4 stars going all the way up to $113 for a stay during the Jazz Festival!

I used up all of my free rebids so when my 24 hours are up, I am going to commence bidding on the 3 stars.
