Gaby,

As I mentioned previously Hutchison is back end of the roster “cheap scrap heap” quality because when a roster is top heavy with high wage players in a salary capped league, you are forced to do it. We are starting to see this more and more in the NFL as well. Teams are increasingly cutting big salaries and trying to sign cheap cheap backups especially at QB to save money. Teams like the Saints that actually spent money on a backup QB they are grooming to take over soon get rewarded. Most NFL teams like the Jaguars and Panthers rolled the dice with cheap backups who are actually performing decently. But there is no way the Saints are 6–1 without Teddy.

The problem with Hutchison is that he isn’t really in the class of young and promising cheap. He is more of a older has been cheap. If you aren’t going to pay much for a backup goalie it’s fine, just find someone who has some minimal potential to be a solid backup. Anyway it’s a somewhat understandable problem, but backup goalies are like disposable razor blades. If they really suck, you release them and pick up some other scrap heap goalie. Given his recent performances, I think Hutchison needs to play better tonight or he faces this possibility.

Toronto may have thought Anderson is a horse who doesn’t need a lot of rest. He did lead the NHL in shots faced I think 2 of the last 3 years. But Hutchison is playing maybe more than expected and getting exposed. Freddie may be nursing a groin injury, who knows. Hutchison playing a lot isn’t what Doc and Iggy and other Leafs fans want, but as the Stones once said, you can’t always get what you want:

Leafs are terrible in back-to-back games & Babs has a policy of never playing the same goalie in back-to-back games so early into the season. I agree with his policy since it's a very long and hard season and the last thing they need is for their star goaltender to start missing games due to injury.

Hutchison was re-signed to act as the team's goaltender with the Marlies. Mikael Neuvirth was signed to be the team's back up. But he's always injured and barely played in the pre season so they had to let him go. The Leafs are still looking for a better back up goalie but they're strapped cap-wise with two regulars just about ready to come back into the lineup after spending the start of the season on the injury list due to surgery.

No doubt a trade or two will happen soon and hopefully for the Leafs they'll get a quality back up in return or have the cash to spend to get one.

With the Habs fully rested and their #1 goaltender between the pipes there is no reason to believe they won't come out of this game victorious against a tired Leafs team with their crappy back up goalie between the pipes.

Even though i'm a Leafs fan i bet $100 on the habs for this game.

Gaby-

I have to agree with Doc, that between the total mismatch in the pipes and the fact that it's a back to back road game for the Leafs, heavy money should be bet on the Habs to win this game.

On top of this the Leafs are still without their captain & one of their top players in John Tavares. Therefore the habs will prevail in a high-scoring game.

I'll be putting some money on the Leafs but don't expect them to win. If i win anything it'll be a bonus. Leafs (like most teams) are terrible in back-to-back games and Mtl will be rested. I expect a high-scoring game once again.

It’s high time I gave a call to my local friendly neighborhood bookie Lol
No need picking sides ,,, from what I’ve gathered reading this thread taking the over is the way to go on this one . Hope Price isn’t to stingy tonight . At the very least it will make a good game even more interesting and exciting.
Good luck to all the Merb punters out there on this Saturday night

That line regularly explodes for 10 plus points. They are scary. They really work well together. Pasternak 5 assists after 11 goals in 10 games. They feed off each other.

Look behind you.
Oilers should have pulled Smith when he got hurt, they let him continue playing and he let 3 goals in in record time...

So far, NY Rangers backup goalie Georgiev has completely outplayed starter Lundqvist. In 6 games Lundqvist has 3.58 GAA and .904 Save %. In 5 games Georgiev has 2.56 GAA and .924 save %. If you were NY Rangers coach, how would you split up goalie duties going forward? It looks to me like Lundqvist maybe should be a backup at this time.

^^^^^ Add an assist to Draisaitl also. Last year people were wondering who was better McDavid or Matthews, McDavid won, this year you can ask who is better Draisaitl or Matthews. The Draisaitl contract I laughed at 3 years ago is a pretty good deal now.

But the GEO best move was getting rid of Lucic ;) I heard he was doing great in Calgary at not scoring goals hehe

Draisatl has the lead in points and is tied for the lead in goals, but Pastrnak is right with him in both categories and has played 2 less games. Pastrnak has 24 points in 12 games- 2 a game!!!!

On the goalie side Tuuka Rask has a sizeable lead in GAA and in save %, but what is interesting to see is that young Thatcher Demko of Vancouver has emerged and developed very rapidly:

Rask played very well in the playoffs last year and appears to be peaking and in his prime right now.
