The Tampa Bay Lightning will win the Stanley Cup, according to 11 of the 16
NHL.com staff writers and editors who made their predictions for the final round.
Of the 11 who picked the Lightning, eight predicted defenseman
Victor Hedman will win the Conn Smythe Trophy, which is awarded to the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Forwards
Brayden Point and
Nikita Kucherov, and goalie
Andrei Vasilevskiy also got a vote for Conn Smythe.
Of the five writers and editors who predicted the Stars to win the Cup, three predicted goalie
Anton Khudobin will win the Conn Smythe Trophy, and two went with defenseman
Miro Heiskanen.
One of the five to predict the Stars will win the Cup is staff writer David Satriano, the only one to go 2-0 in the conference finals. He was also one of two to pick the Stars to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final.
2020 Stanley Cup Final preview: Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Dallas Stars matchup, series pick

So here we have it, a Stanley Cup being awarded in September. In a bubble. It will be either the Tampa Bay Lightning (whose only Cup win came back in 2004) against the Dallas Stars (lone Cup in 1999). It's the first time two Sun Belt teams have faced off in the Final.
^^^SO, I have been wrong Picking Winners...I say TBL will take the Cup...
What we're hearing about the 2020-21 NHL season

What the schedule will look like
Ever since the pandemic upended the 2019-20 season, commissioner Gary Bettman has been insistent on restoring as much normalcy as possible next season, including a full 82-game slate for every team.
"Looking at the schedule, making some adjustments, we believe we can play a full season, and if we run a little later than usual, that may be one of the consequences," he said.
The NHL and NHL Players' Association tentatively agreed to a
Dec. 1 start date for 2020-21, with training camps
beginning on Nov. 17. But privately, team executives believe that's too ambitious. The further the NHL pushes back the start date, the less likely a full schedule is. Awarding a Stanley Cup in September or October isn't going to be a regular occurrence.
As one high-ranking team business executive told ESPN bluntly: "We all realize an 82-game schedule for next season is a pipe dream. It's just not going to happen."
