Only buy Cuban cigars from Cuban govenment approved stores.

Do not buy cigars on the street in Cuba. If you are lucky, the cigars will have come from the cigar factories but will be made with floor sweepings. ( along with toe nail clipping and remenants from manuels hair cut) The packaging on these cigars are usualy genuine factory stock, but will not have the Government stamp that you will need along with an official receipt to get it out of the country. If you are not lucky, then the fake cigars will be made from grass clippings, garden weeds and shredded cigars plant stems.

i can certify your statement....never but never buy fron anyone....no matter how good the story sounds....cuz the cigars they sell are 100% fake!
the only place to buy,.....is the casa of havana....in all cities in cuba...

Yes, Lagavulin 16 is an amazing scotch, as are most mentioned here. The problen though, as I see it, is that of the myriad of beautiful malts you're only going to hear of a few.
Pity.
However, I would suggest that you visit your local bookstore and pick up a copy of Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion.
In it he explores all the malts, and categorizes them by house style and suggests how they can be savoured. Some are afternoon malts; others are better suited as a nightcap.
It's a brilliant book, and will serve you admirably for years to come.

That said, anything from Islay, or even a peppery Talisker and you're good to go.

Slainte mhath,
Nookie

My top 5 are :

Highland Park 18 years (Oarkney)
Aberlour A'bunadh (Speyside)
Glen Rothes (Speyside)
Glendronach 15 years Sherry Cask (Highland)
The Dalmore 21 years (Highland)

I'm not a "Islay" drinker but I prefer a lot the Ardbeg 10 years or 17 years than the Lagavulin 16 years

High value scotches and whiskeys.

I am looking for a high value scotch or whiskey, by that I mean low price with exceptional quality. I can recommend a high value cognac. The Gaston Legrange Napoleon cognac is of exceptional value at a relativley low price. I can honestly say that I have had $200 per bottle cognacs that was not as good.
