Will they decided to release it digitally instead? I think it's possible, but with a 1/4 billion dollar budget, not including advertising they, and the studios financing them, really need a big theatrical release to make money. Digital revenues alone probably wouldn't even come close to making back the budget. I think the same thing is true of other big releases like Black Widow and Wonder Woman 1984, which are being held back, too ...
Netflix made a sick offer on Crazy Rich Asians - reportedly it fervently sought worldwide rights to the project, offering "artistic freedom, a greenlighted trilogy and huge, seven-figure-minimum paydays for each stakeholder, upfront". The filmmakers chose Warner Brothers not because the money was better, but the chance for a wider theatrical release. Rest assured that Netflix is aware of the current uncertainty surrounding ANY theatrical releases and they will make a similar sick money offer on No Time To Die. It may be a movie built for the theaters, but the investors want a guaranteed return on their investment, and not uncertainty. So Netflix will make at least the offer they made on CRA and is a real contender on the James Bond movie.....
