Well...LUCK is a big part / plays a major role in any sport ...
While it is true that luck is a big part of sports, I do not feel like the Saints won the game as much as lucked into a win. TB had 12 or 13 penalties, which extended drives that NO did not deserve to have extended. Most of these were roughing the passer, taunting and unsportsmanlike conduct. It's true Winston got injured on a horse collar tackle (out for season with torn ACL), but even Payton said the turf caused that injury, not the horse collar tackle. Honestly some of those penalties did not have to be called, but I can't say any of them were totally undeserved. But they were not penalties caused by guys getting beat like offensive holding. These were penalties of roughness and attitude, and it's a sport where roughness and attitude is needed. So I do not get too worked up about these penalties as the refs seem to do. But they were decisive in this game. The penalties and the fluky interception at the end decided the game. But TB has a MUCH better team than NO and they will destroy NO in the return match in TB. That game will happen on December 19 and Brady will have his vengeance.Well...LUCK is a big part / plays a major role in any sport ...and as we say a good team makes his own luck....les SAINTS ont été opportunistes et bien su tirer profit des erreurs de BRADY.....and a win is a win.
Tardif's sabbatical is one reason why Patrick Mahomes spent the entire last Super Bowl running for his life, more than any other QB in any Super Bowl ever has. It's not easy losing a starting offensive lineman and there is usually a trickle effect from loss of cohesion or playing guys at new positions. Due to injuries the past few years, the NY Giants have been trying to mix and match at different positions with disastrous results. Just for example a few weeks ago, due to an injury at left tackle, they switched Matt Peart from right tackle to left tackle, although Peart has been a RT all of his career and in college. The results were disastrous. On the very first snap, due to the poor weak side technique, Peart allowed his man to go around him and strip sack Daniel Jones. The Giants have continued to fuck around with their offensive line in this fashion, are not getting results, and are also not learning. They seem to have also drafted with this philosophy and it is soon to cost GM Dave Gettleman his job (probably after the season). Many players and team management did not like and resented Tardif's year-off Covid sabbatical after the Chiefs signed him to a 5-year contract extension of $42Mil including a $10Mil signing bonus, with $20Mil guaranteed, on an average annual salary of $8.5mil.
He barely saw playing time during the pre-season games...the team made him rot on the sidelines! Essentially that was management's message to Tardif...that while his teammates were busting their balls in the Chiefs playoff run last year Tardif chose not to be there with the team!
The writing was on the wall for Tardif with the Chiefs!
hmmm the reason why the chief lost super bowl was because there offense left tackle Eric Fisher was injured in the Buffalo playoff game .Tardif's sabbatical is one reason why Patrick Mahomes spent the entire last Super Bowl running for his life, more than any other QB in any Super Bowl ever has. Tardif sent an unmistakeable message to the Chiefs that football was a "hobby" that was not that important to him and that he is more interested in other jobs. They responded very predictably. I doubt he was warmly received back by his teammates.
It's the entire offensive line's job/problem when a QB spends a whole game running for his life. It's not just the left tackle protecting the QB. He protects the blind side. But the blind side isn't the only source of pressure. When there is pressure up the middle it's the fault of the guards and the center. When there are safety and LB blitzes the running backs might also need to block. The Chiefs did have a very good blocking FB but I don't think he played much in the game. The problem the Chiefs had in the Super Bowl wasn't just due to the Fisher injury. Tardif not being around was why it was hard for them to mix and match and why they had to play guys at different positions who had absolutely no chemistry. Their offensive line still isn't particularly good. They went backwards from what it was the year before.hmmm the reason why the chief lost super bowl was because there offense left tackle Eric Fisher was injured in the Buffalo playoff game .
The left tackle is responsible for protecting the QB blind side.
The chiefs had another injured player in there offense tackle line so they had to shift other player to position that they don't normally play.
Fischer injury is a big injury
The chief had to do a trade this year to get Orlando Brown Jr. from Baltimore
But I don't think he was playing as a left tackle.
Offensive Left tackle position is more difficult to play .

Did the Fisher injury hurt? Yes. Did Tardif not being around hurt? Yes. They made it to the Super Bowl, though, where the OL was exposed - an issue many saw coming because TB is strong on the defensive line both up the middle with Suh and on the ends. They were not going to get away with a patchwork OL against a team like TB, and they didn't.
You also don't need all pros all over the line if the OL is experienced and works well together. This was the case when the Giants won their last Super Bowl. They had a bunch of guys who were seasoned and had played together for a while. One of them was a Pro Bowl type in his younger days but not the others. They were all good at working together as a team. They didn't miss blocking assignments.
I didn't want to raise this in my post - however, since you mentioned it this is exactly the resentment that his teammates/management had towards Tardif.......Tardif sent an unmistakeable message to the Chiefs that football was a "hobby" that was not that important to him and that he is more interested in other jobs. They responded very predictably. I doubt he was warmly received back by his teammates.
Alan,
Although the timing of the Fisher injury was unfortunate for the Chiefs, if you are a team you overcome the injury to one offensive lineman. Teams lose OL to injury frequently, that is why you have depth on the team and experienced lineman who can play snaps beyond the starting OL. The fact is that the Chiefs in the Super Bowl gave up a historic record number of QB pressures rendering Mahomes unable to function and mostly running for his life the whole game. It was an embarrassment to watch. The Packers also lost their best offensive lineman last year and they were not all of a sudden unable to protect Aaron Rodgers. You are putting all of it on the Fisher injury and I am not going to give the Chiefs a pass based on the Fisher injury alone, unfortunate though it was, for the way they played in the Super Bowl.
He's always been a different guy, but I didn't think he was hippy dippy "homeopathic therapy" different. It's just another example of how talent is the only thing that matters in the NFL. Apparently, his homeopathic antibody thingamajig was denied by the NFL and players association. But if you're the Packers would you want to insist on Rodgers being vaccinated after the hissy fit he threw this offseason?Packers' Aaron Rodgers tests positive for COVID-19, will miss Week 9 battle vs. Chiefs
Packers' Aaron Rodgers tests positive for COVID-19, ruled out for Week 9 battle vs. Chiefs; per reportwww.cbssports.com
Aaron Rodgers won't be on the field when the Green Bay Packers take on the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday. The reigning league MVP has tested positive for COVID-19, per CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora, shortly after practice squad quarterback Kurt Benkert was also placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list with a positive test.
To be more accurate, he noted he had been "immunized," and that creates its own set of questions on if he's truly vaccinated or if he's speaking to simply having built up natural antibodies from possibly contracting the virus on a previous occasion.
There is no doubt he is a prima donna, but I would make the case that he is the most gifted QB in the NFL in all areas. Maybe even in NFL history. His interception rate is historically low. Although Brady will always have Super Bowl wins over Rogers, Rogers has vastly superior TD to INT and passer rating numbers. Rogers is #3 in career passer rating, behind Mahomes and Watson. Watson very well may never play another NFL game, but his stats are only based on 3.5 seasons and may well have a permanent asterisk. Mahomes is in the midst of his worst season and his career passer rating has dropped 3 points, from 109 to 106, so that he only has a 2 point lead over Rodgers in the career passer rating. Which means that if Mahomes puts up the same suck-ass stats he has amassed so far for the second half of the season, he will drop behind Rogers. Mahomes, like Rogers, has an impressive over 4 to 1 TD to INT ratio, but this year it's 19 to 10, which is not bad for most guys, but seriously dragging his rate down as compared to Rogers. Rogers has 429 TDs and 92 INTs for his career, 17/3 this year, numbers that are incredible for a guy who has essentially played a full career. I would take Rogers over either of the 2 "small sample size" young punks, Mahomes and Watson, as the all time great QB.He's always been a different guy, but I didn't think he was hippy dippy "homeopathic therapy" different. It's just another example of how talent is the only thing that matters in the NFL.
