Things seem to be getting back to normal for the LAFFS after their little winning streak. They will never be a contending team with an average goalie like Bernier and the Pylon as their captain. :D The 18 wheeler has commenced its freefall. :thumb:

Not to mention they played 22 of their first 33 games at home and only have 19 home games left this season. All knowledgeable hockey fans see what's coming.

Also, right on the money regarding "B.G." Bernier (AKA the world's foremost expert on South African ice hockey ) Poor Ig thinks his nickname "B.G." stands for big game when it really really stands for "backup goalie" :D

BTW anyone catch Jeff O'Neill on TSN yesterday saying how tubby #81 can't back back check because he's so out of shape. Like all things Leafs, it was hilarious. :thumb:

It looks like another post-season tragedy is in the works. How long will that have been?

It's been really tough being an Oiler fan over the past few years, so i feel for you. They remind me of the Maple Leafs of the 1980's under Harrold H. Ballard. Those were absolutely dreadful years & it seemed there was no end to the incompetence. All of this changed when Cliff Fletcher and Pat Burns joined the Leafs. So don't despair, hopefully for Oilers fan the ownership group will one day get rid of the good ol' boys club and bring someone in who knows how to operate a hockey franchise and put the right coach in place. Nothing against Eakins, but putting a rookie coach with a bunch of kids was not a good idea.

Thee Beloved Leafs beat the lowly bruins once again on Phil "the thrill" Kessel's awesomeness. Phil had 2 points but easily could have had 5 or more if not for some "luck" by the bruins. Thanks for #81 boston. :thumb: (and to think boston does NOT have Kessel OR Seguin any longer lol)

Jonathan "BIG GAME" Bernier once again stymied the baby bears to another loss. GRRRRREAT way to end the year and start the New One! :D

Game notes, CONGRATS to KESSEL on his 500th point at the age of just 27, well on his way to the hall of fame. Worth much more than the 9 mil per that "pernell" makes in mtl

It was indeed a very convincing win by Canada's most beloved team last night. Boston was only in the game because of two fluke goals and a great performance by Tukka Rask. Kessel was easily the best player on the ice and if it weren't for Rask he could have wound up with five goals. Zdeno Chara was as usual shadowing Kessel and looked very slow. Last night he showed that he's no longer a young lad & maybe the time to trade this fading veteran would be now. Last night, Kessel just flew by him & wound up all alone on Rask. The much slower Chara had no choice but to hook him & it wound up in a penalty shot opportunity by Kessel, which Rask wound up stopping.

I hadn't realized that Kessel was already at 500 points. Wow!!! And he's barely 27 years old!!

The Kessel/Seguin trade wouldn't look as bad for the Bruins had they not panicked and given away Seguin to the Dallas Stars. Seguin is a bonafide franchise player and players with his extreme level of talent don't come by too often. Like with every teenager, the Bruins should have been more patient with him and given him time to mature. Dallas sure doesn't regret trading for him. Was this trade worse than the Joe Thornton trade? It's still too early to judge. Thornton will one day be in the hall-of-fame and has had a wonderful career with the San Jose Sharks.

And finally, here are my final thoughts about last night's game in Boston:

Tukka Rask & Patrice Bergeron always have their best games against the Leafs. These two individuals are usually the only reason why Boston can keep up with the Leafs. However, when they play against the hated Montreal Canadiens, they are nowhere to be found, especially Rask, who is absolutely dreadful against that team.

I have a solution: The Leafs should come up with a red alternate jersey & only use it against the Bruins. Psychologists would likely agree with me that it could very well have quite an effect on opposing players such as Rask, Chara and Bergeron. Mostly on Rask & Bergeron, since Chara is no longer feared around the league & i actually cherish the fact Julien puts him on the ice every time Kessel gets on. He's no longer able to contain Kessel because of his lack of speed and Kessel now thrives everytime he's facing Chara.

Eakins was fired a week or so ago, management blamed the coaching. Katz is an incompetent sports franchise owner.
The " kids " are not that new anymore as some were drafted 5 - 7 years ago and still preform like shit. They gave up as a group and will not get the spark back, only way to get these players motivated would be to put them on another team.

Great night for hockey tonight. Canada's favorite team, the HABS, win yet again. The Canadian junior team wins again, and... Canada's national embarrassement, The LEAFS, lose again. :thumb:

STN, what are your impressions about the Perron trade to Pittsburgh??

Perron must feel like he won the lottery. Unless he also winds up with the mumps, of course. But then again, maybe getting the mumps is still better than wasting his hockey career in Edmonton.

I'm back from my vacation and very happy to see that during my absence (and that of renowned hockey expert Gohabsgo, who I see was also on holiday) Octavian, G1GBallday and Anon Vlad have held the fort with their intelligent and exceptionally accurate posts. Well done gentlemen and a Happy New Year to all three of you:thumb: Thank Heaven that this board has true hockey experts such as the five of us!

And on the subject of the New Year, here's today's math lesson: 2015 minus 1967 equals 48.

The Leafs love to torture their fans by putting together a late collapse to avoid the playoffs. They are already in the lower half of the standings, but still on the cusp of being allowed to stink out a first playoff round. Maybe this year they will be kind to their fans (mainly Southern Ontario residents who lack the imagination to cheer a team other than the closest geographically) and, like hard core constipated shit, mercifully sink to the bottom quickly and get flushed out of the playoffs. Why wait for spring - do it now!

Statistically, they are on track. They have the 2nd most shots allowed and 4th most goals against and there are lots of games left for them to win the championship in those two categories. As a commentator of HNC mentioned tonight, they already lead the league in publicly discarded team sweaters.

Sadly, it may be already too late in the season for them to catch Buffalo and Edmonton for best position for the draft lottery.

Good to have MERB's most knowledgeable hockey poster back and Happy New Year to you as well.

So far today has been a great one for true hockey connaisseurs with Hockey's royalty A.K.A. Canada's team winning in Pittsburgh and going 5-0 on their road trip. Prior to that, Ontario's team added 2 points with a win in Boston. Despite the loss, the Bruins got 1 precious point to still move up in the standings. And last and certainly least, Toronto's team lost for the second night in a row to end their road trip with a dismal 2-5 record. :thumb: Once again they were out shot 2 to 1 and left their #2 back up goalie out to dry with 40 shots against. I actually feel bad for Reimer and hope he gets traded or released before we have to add his name to the long list of goalies who's career was destroyed playing for the hemorrhoid on the asshole of the sport. :(

And finally, I'll be pulling for the Wings versus the Leafs of the west A.K.A Canada's only other member of the 40+ years of failure club. :D

P.S. Anyone else notice when checking out the recent board suspensions that promoting BBFS gets you a one month suspension but hurting the feelings of thin skinned Leafies gets you two.

Anybody notice how the bearded lady (Phil Kessel - apologies to the ladies) killed any chance of a comeback with his quadruple whining at the end of Friday's game? With his team down by 2 goals, Philomena went for a skate around the rink, tattletailing to all four officials to try to get a penalty called on a Minnesota player who wasn't very nice to him, instead earning an unsportsmanlike penalty for himself, leaving his team shorthanded for half of the final minutes of the game.

Who Is the Greatest Hockey Player of All Time?

This is probably an impossible question to answer because there are so many variables: comparing forwards to d-men to goalies, comparing players of different eras, comparing forwards with outstanding offensive skills to those with a two-way game, comparing stay-at-home d-men or heavy hitters to high-scoring d-men. And then you have to consider longevity, character, leadership, toughness and many other factors. Ultimately, it becomes a question of opinion as well as facts and statistics.

Most observers consider Gretzky, Orr and Howe the best 3 of all time, with Lemieux, Richard and Beliveau maybe being the next few.

Here are the opinions of five individuals on the greatest of all time:

Cairo: Gordie Howe

Gretzky: Gordie Howe

Orr: Gordie Howe

Hull: Gordie Howe

Bernier: Nelson Mandela
