Well lookie there, the Leafs are still in the playoffs while the habs are setting up their tee times for tomorrow. Fore!!!!!!!

Until the habbies address the Centre position they will never win a round because when Danault is your #1, there is a problem.

Below is one of several messages from online forums of ticked off habbies fans (and so true)

No offensive talent in system. No NHL worthy Centre.?Leafs will surpass us next year and easily the next 5 plus. They have offensive talent spare.
Life is going to be Hell lving with 100 Km of Toronto.

Absolutely correct. Marc Bergevin said in his presser that there are many teams in the league who don't have any #1 centers. He added that those who do don't want to give them away. Incredibly, he said that teams have advanced to the finals in the past without a #1 center, pointing out LA & Chicago and saying that Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Toews aren't really #1 centers although they are paid like one. Say what???? This guy should take his head out of his ass!

Yesterday some members of the Montreal media indicated that the habs must absolutely go all-out in trying to obtain John Tavares from the Islanders if the Isles can't re-sign him. They're even saying that every player not named Price and Webber should be made available, including first-round draft picks. Why not Carey Price, i wonder?? Geez!! He's not even the best goaltender in the league anymore!!! And he's starting to get old!! And he'll cost them between $10-$15 million to be re-signed!! Why the hell would the habs want to give an aging goalie that much money in the first place when they have huge holes at the forward and defence positions left to fill?? Incredible!!!

Vegas HAS to pick ONE player from EACH team for a total of 30 players. List's of players eligible as well as non eligible were submitted today by each team and the players Vegas picks will be unveiled this wednesday night at the NHL awards show, in Vegas.

Montreal protected Pacioretty, Danault, Gallagher, Byron, Galchenyuk, Drouin, Shaw, Weber, Benn, Petry and Price so none of them can be claimed by Vegas.

another question how many player are allowed on the bench during game time including 2 goaler

Huh? 12 forwards and 6 D or a team can go with 11 forwards and 7 D, plus the back up goalie in both cases, if that is what you are asking??

Each team dresses 20 players, 18 skaters and 2 goalies (typically 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, goalie and back up goalie) and the others usually watch from the press box but it is not 8 guys it is 3. An NHL active roster is 23 players.

what im trying to say is on game time your allowed to dress up 21 player if im not mistaken. what im trying to get to what happens to the other 8 player that happen to be nhl player and not AHL.

but aren t they drafting 30 player

Yes but they still have to follow the rules that the other 30 teams have to follow. I am not really sure if they will have a minor league system in place the first year (i doubt it, they won't have enuf players to even fill one minor league team for a few seasons) or where the other players go in the expansion draft or the NHL draft next weekend either. Maybe Doc knows?

Many expect that many players drafted by Vegas won't be with the team once the season starts. Many expect Vegas to trade those players to the rest of NHL teams in order to load up on picks for the next drafts in the coming years.

It's also expected that deals between Vegas and various teams such as Anaheim, Minnesota and others in order for Vegas 'not to draft' certain players left unprotected....and also deals having Vegas draft a player in order to give the other NHL team cap relief. Vegas would in turn get draft picks and/or prospects.

Don't be surprised if Ottawa winds up asking Vegas to draft Bobby Ryan (instead of Marc Methot) in order to keep Methot in Ottawa and relieve Ottawa of Ryan's contract. Ottawa may wind up keeping some of the money on Ryan's contract, though.

Same thing with Josh Manson in Anaheim and Matt Dumba in Minnesota. I can't see them not staying put with their current teams.

As for the Leafs, they'll likely lose either Kerby Rychel or Brendan Leipsic. But there are rumours the Leafs may instead make a deal with Vegas if they take on Joffrey Lupul's contract and the Leafs wound reward them for doing so.

I remember when Lou Lamoriello was the second-best GM in the League. I respect the guy for his Jersey years (until he started blowing it at the end - among other things, a certain guy named Kovalchuk comes to mind).

But now? A rich 3-year (!!!) contract to a graybeard like Patrick Marleau? Come on, Lou!! Marleau was always a solid - but far from great - player...and he's obviously already in decline, as his stats from last year indicate. He's played 19 NHL years and close to 1500 games. That's an awful lot of mileage on anyone not named Gordie Howe!

I thought the Leafs were going for youth?

Granted, Burkie made plenty of moves far worse than this one...but that's why Burkie was fired and his whole team was dismantled!

The good news is that Patrick Marleau can hang around with Dominic Moore and Ron Hainsey...because OLD people often enjoy being with other OLD people.

Lou, Lou...what's going on? Trying to sign Jagr next? Maybe coax Sundin out of retirement? Put Johnny Bower back in nets? (Granted, Bower would be an improvement.)

Patrick Marleau was as much a Mark Hunter/Mike Babcock signing than it was a Lou Lamoriello signing. Hunter will likely be the GM next season once Lamoriello retires (but he may stay on as an advisor, like Jacques Lemaire is doing). Patrick Marleau is in great physical condition and he has not missed a single game since 2009. His productivity has yet to drop down and he's still among the top skaters in the entire league.

But the Leafs got him for his experience and leadership, which will be a key to the young Leafs throughout the season and especially during the playoffs, which is also why they signed Ron Hainsey to a decent two-year deal.

The Leafs' window-of-opportunity to spend $$ on free agents is this year since next season they'll have several big contract issues to resolve. A future hall-of-famer such as Patrick Marleau doesn't become available too often and the time to jump at the chance of getting him was now. Sure, they would have preferred to give him a two-year contract, but they had to offer him three years in order to outbid the other three teams who were after him (incl. the Sharks). The Leafs had also tried to lure Joe Thornton to play with Marleau, but he chose to remain in San Jose for more $$ than the Leafs were offering him.

The Leafs are still one of the youngest teams in hockey and their farm team is oozing with young talent. But they realized last season that their rebuilding plan was way ahead of schedule and that they could be contenders by tinkering here and there. And in this league, you need a good mix of young talent with well-seasoned veterans in order to be contenders, as the Pittsburgh Penguins have proved over and over.

I also like the Dominic Moore signing. He'll fit in perfectly as the 4th-line center and he's great on faceoffs and as a penalty killer. They get him on the cheap as compared to what NJ gave Brian Boyle, who would have served the same role had he remained with the Leafs.

I still expect the Leafs to make another trade or two in order to bolster their young defence. Vegas, Anaheim, Nashville & Calgary may be one of the potential teams which the Leafs will trade with. And who knows.....would Andrei Markov consider moving closer to home for a year or two? I'd take Markov anytime even if it's for two years, but not for $6 million/season which is what he's rumoured to be asking for.

You know what? I was as surprised as anyone when i heard Saturday that the Leafs were one of four teams interested in Marleau. I was even more surprised when i heard yesterday that they had signed him. But today after evaluating the entire thing, it makes sense. And the Marleau signing has also put Toronto back on the map as one of the top destinations for free agents to want to sign with.

And you know what else? They're going to sell thousands of Patrick Marleau jerseys and it'll help pay for his contract, which i consider reasonable considering he's still one of the top forwards in hockey and he's always been one of Mike Babcock's favorite hockey players, having coached him previously with Team Canada.
