This came as a bit of a shock to me this morning when I heard it on the news so I had to log in from work to post it. Picasso's restaurant, upstairs from the Amazon for those unaware, closed last Friday after 30 years.

Brings back a lot of memories of late night (early morning) after work snacks with ladies from the club.

Just another sad sign of the times, I guess.:(

wow - what a shame.
I have many memories of Picasso's. Late nights, early mornings, lunches.
This was a great place to meet and eat.

Don't know why 30 years ago the ex-owner let it go but
who knows, maybe he is now going to take a look at it again.

Peter sold the restaurant about 10 years ago but he still owns the building. He's hoping to find someone else to take over the resto but I don't think he will be interested in doing it himself.

I've been there twice, the food was awful and the only reason was the proximity to the motels and strip club in the area.

Last time I had a club sandwitch, how they could get that wrong I'll never know but the chicken was rancid and the french fries tasted like fish'n'chips.

The restaurants in the Zellers stores are better in my opinion.

I remember when the food was good....

...getting back to the more recent past, even though the quality of food went down, they were still always busy.

Interesting! I went a couple of times maybe ten years ago and I had thought the food was super at the time. Of course I was drunk and
it was a crack-of-dawn breakfast with friends!!!

Recently I had returned (close to Chablis and Amazons) a couple of times and I really wasn't impressed! I had figured that maybe my previous judgement had been impaired at the time but maybe not!

This can only be a good thing....

R.I.P...? Fuck it!

It used to be the place to go to after a hard night of clubbing/partying, despite the quality of food, at 4am, I don't think anyone really cared.

Sad news, Picasso was a Montreal landmark like the Orange Julep. Hopefully someone will take it over.

It was a convenient place to eat breakfast before getting the wreck washed and getting groceries.

A cherished image which will stay with me forever is that of a Picassso waitress who had slightly overestimated what she could carry. Her solution was to tuck the bread basket into her armpit.

Picasso

Went there several times...a long time ago in the mid 80's. I don't have many recollections of that joint. Reading the former posts complaining about the quality of the food, no wonder then that the name of the restaurant was Picasso. A meal always looked vaguely like a decent one!

Thanks Techman for the info.
I used to go there frequently and liked the place a lot.
I didn't know it was there for the past 30 years, mind you I've been going there
since 1988..so it was already a long period just from there.
Yeah, really sad to hear that it's now gone.

If only I knew...
When Picasso closed, they were in business for 30 years, without missing a day. At the final closing time, they had to call a locksmith: nobody had a key to lock the door!

Now that is a great story.

Went there for a long stretch during the early 1980s on nights after the Amazon strip club closed.

The girls there used to do air dances for $3 each on Tuesday nights....so I was in the neighborhood a bit.....

Not to hyjack the tread, but that is a great idea to beef up business in the strip clubs. How many times have I heard in the last 2 years from strippers that business is down. Just bring in the $6 dances at strip clubs for a few hours a night on special nights. Lets say Monday to Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

With things going the way they are, at $6 or $7 a dance the girls have the potential to make $210 to $252 in the three hours on the discounted slower nights. If the specials are on Mon. to Wed. then they have the potential to make $630 to $756. If the clubs offer a happy hour offering discount for the drinks, then this will bring in a few clients that they would not usualy have. The whole purpose of discounted dances and drinks are to bring in the customers to the empty clubs. Some dancers have told me that they are only bringing in $100 a night. In a case where supply is larger than demand the prices have to be lowered.
Just compare contact dancing with a complete massage. For $50 + a $30 tip I can get a good massage for one hour plus contact and finition! At the strip club I get for $80, eight dances with contact but no finition that will last 8 x 3 min. = 24 minutes. The world has changed. I think that if you asked any dancer, they would think that slow nights offering special prices is a good idea. At the strip clubs the slow nights is almost every night now.
