A man whose two pit bulls attacked and bit an escort he had just robbed has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after being convicted of assault and theft.

Quebec Court Judge Nathalie Fafard said Fabian Bourghart, 49, “acted irresponsibly, without concern for the consequences.”

“Dogs are unpredictable animals that could have caused injuries even more serious,” Judge Fafard said, noting that the dogs had bitten others and were the subject of “at least two” euthanasia orders the accused ignored.

Court was told that on Nov. 1, 2014, after consuming drugs and alcohol, Bourghart booked an escort, and apparently grew irate when she asked for a second glass of water after undressing in his Montreal apartment.

When he pushed her down and started hitting her, she got up to leave and offered to repay his $200. Instead, he snatched all her money, followed her outside, grabbed her by the face and then called his dogs, who bit her several times on the legs while she waited for her driver, who ended up taking her to the hospital.

The woman is now unemployed, depressed and requires medication, court was told.

Fafard said her injuries were significant and the accused’s actions gratuitous and exaggerated.

Both dogs were euthanized after the incident. As part of her sentence, Fafard barred Bourghart from owning or keeping any dogs for three years.

OMG, this is awful... MERBites should be irate that a fellow john did this. If a board member, he should be identified and given a thorough beating. Incredibly irresponsible and just wrong. I'm sure there's another side to this story, but no situation should never escalate to this result.

Is the girl known to the board? Hope she's alright, and her agency or an SP support group is making sure she's recovering properly.

Damn!

He only got 18 months for robbing her and terrorizing her with dangerous animals? The kind of carelessness for respect of human life and the type of brutality shows a sociopathic mindset. This guy deserves a sentence in kind with the offense, not a slap.

Now we see more clearly what it's like for a woman to risk being an escort, never mind answering all of the GFE/PSE demands out there.

Geeeez,

As bad as I feel for the girl the owner did not get a sufficient punishment. 18 months for inciting an attack by his dogs, perhaps if he was let loose in the cage of a Tiger or a Lion at park Safari or Granby he would NEVER do anything like this again.

As for the dogs, I have seen Pit Bulls who are gentle and playful. As far as I'm concerned the animals reflect the way they have been raised by the irresponsible owners they have. Unfortunately there is no turning back once they have attacked a human and being put down is probably the most sensible thing to do. As a society we tend to tolerate the continuous abuse of animals and then are surprised when an attack like this occurs. We need to speak out against this type of cruelty and prevent these animals from becoming a danger. People who treat their dogs like this will treat their children, spouses, friends and the general public in the same manner. This has to stop and the stopping begins with YOU speaking out when you see the abuse of an animal or another human being, don't turn around and walk away, let your feelings be known and make a change in our world, for the better.

That's really scary. No wonder many girls won't do outcalls to private residences. Another reason guys should not be offended if we ask for references before coming to see you. Poor girl. I have no words.

Yeah, right. And wind up spending more time in prison than this asshole.

p.s. I'm surprised to learn that pitbulls are still legal in Quebec. They are banned in several other provinces.

I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating: I know of some major agencies that pay a lot of lip service to references, but who don't actually ask for them in the end. And I live in the US, where you'd think people would be more careful. Ladies, remember that your personal safety is paramount. If a situation seems strange to you, walk away. And carry pepper spray. I don't know the law in Quebec, but if it's illegal, carry it anyway. That shit works on dogs, too...

99 out of 100 guys might be great, but that other guy is fucking nuts. Be careful!

It takes allot of courage to be an escort. You never know what is awaiting you inside the hotel room or apartment. Prostitution should be legalized and be done in brothels with security.

I think that the wrong animal(s) were euthanized. As a dog owner, I know that Pit Bulls, like German Shepards, can be trained to be violent or gentle.

I expect that when this creature is uncaged, he will eventually get dogs again. Let's hope that then he passes out from his drugs after forgetting to feed his dogs and becomes biodegradable.

Usually it is the owner who determines if the Pit bull is dangerous. Mostly it is the skumbag/toughians that own these dogs to look tough.

I once owned a Rottweiler and it was really the friendliest dog in the world. She was defensive of me & my household, true, but she never did more than growl at people & backed down when I told her it was okay. I don't have a dog now, but if I were to get another one, it would be another Rottie.

Pepper spray is legal in Quebec. Hunting gear stores actually sell it as "Bear repellent". I don't know if it's still the case, but the army surplus on St. Laurent/Ste. Catherine used to sell it under the counter because law enforcement was giving them a bit of trouble, like 10 years ago. But they couldn't do anything because it's simply not illegal and at some point, according to them, they gave up trying to block the sale.
You have it on you: you tell the cops you're afraid of dogs. Nothing they can do unless you use it to attack someone.

I would also assume most cops would not ask too much questions to a lady carrying mace in her purse but might be more prone to ask questions to, say, a 6'2'' guy carrying it.

Pit-Bulls used to be called "Nanny dogs" because of how good they were with children. The problem is that the Pit-Bull terrier is EXTREMELY loyal, if it's raised right it's an amazing dog - but if raised by an asshole it can become an absolute vicious terror.

I had a pit-bull terrier in my teens and she was the most loving, fun loving dog that I have ever met. She was an excellent companion and always lent an ear for my complaining (lol), she was not violent at all - unless someone attacked me (RIP).

It's a shame that people abuse the loyalties of the Pit-Bull terrier.

There is nothing wrong with Pit-Bulls. It's the OWNERS that abuse them.

Doberman's are not banned and are also very dangerous dogs when raised by the wrong owners. Breeders however, reputable ones, fixed that by making ownership hard.

Doberman's are also good dogs when they are raised properly by the right type of owner.
