Grizzly,

That is a decent deal. I like the Hyatt more than any of the other Priceline 3 stars.

BTW: last week I stayed at the 3 star Holiday Inn Select which I got for $70 on Priceline..........I clearly overbid!

Just got the 3* Holiday Inn Select for $68 + taxes for late August. Why I bid $68, I am not really sure.
Wanted to get the Hyatt Regency.
Have stayed at both previously. Hyatt is much better.
Oh well.

Bizzie,

I got the Holiday Inn Select last week for $70 on my first bid, and felt as though I could have done better as well. I agree that the Hyatt is much better than the Holiday Inn Select.

Interesting note: the Holiday Inn Select did not charge me that mysterious "municipal hotel tax" which they charged on prior trips, so I am wondering whether complaints to Priceline had some effect.

Omni staff on strike

Got it for around $102 via PL (as a 4-star). As of now, the place kind of sucks. The regular staff (over 200 of them) have been on strike for nearly a month, and even though the management staff are doing their best to accomodate the guests, the service is still 'fair' at best. No mini-bar due to the strike, and when i stayed there recently, housekeeping showed up late in the afternoon, after my 3rd phone call to the front desk (i needed some towels!). I found out later from a local contact that hiring scabs is illegal in the province of Quebec, so managment types are doing all the work (housekeeping, maintenance, etc).

It's the only hotel in Montreal still on strike, and it had to be the one where i wound up staying at. Until the strike is resolved, i'd avoid this place right now. Much better options in the 3-star range or on HW.

A friend has advised me that he got the Hyatt for $70 on PL Labor Day weekend. Bids of $60 and $65 were rejected prior to the Hyatt grabbing the $70 bid.

Dorval?

Has anyone stayed near Dorval? How is the area? Is it comparable to Etobicoke near TO's Pearson, or is Montreal West pretty seedy? Hmm...what I need in a Montreal guide book.

I have already checked with a few agencies, and they all say they'd send girls out there. What will I miss as far as the Montreal atomsphere? Is staying in downtown really worth the price of admission?

The Dorval area is closer to downtown Mtl than what Pearson Airport is to downtown Toronto. It takes twice as long to get to Pearson when you're in downtown Toronto. I'd say there is much more going on in Toronto (airport area) than Mtl....lots of massage parlours (great ones!) and great stripclubs...the best in the Toronto area, which are full of Mtl girls. However, it's easier to get an sp to go see you in Dorval, i believe......or quicker.

The bid for 3* hotel, Montreal for this week, accepted for $80. I think that I bid higher than necessary, but did not want to take any chances. Just to save a few bucks, one can end up paying a lot more.

Bit of a problem

Had a problem this weekend. Finished up my stay at the Hyatt on Sunday, needed one more night so last week I made another bid for 8/22-8/23 and hit the Holiday Inn Select. Here's where my problem began, so I went to check in yesterday and they said I didn't have a reservation, I went to check my confirmation sheet and I booked it for the wrong f*cken day, instead of 8/21-8/22 I booked it for 8/22-8/23.

Sat down at the chairs in the lobby of the HI Select and pulled out my laptop and used their free wireless access looking for a late hit on a deal. Checked BFT and saw someone hit the Hyatt for $65 the other day for Sunday night, bid $65 on a same day check in and got lucky. Back to the Hyatt for my last night which is the hotel I would've preferred but without getting compensated for the lost night tonight it was like spending $140 for the room.

Oh well, double check before finalizing your dates on your PL request form.

If only I knew...
I bid last Saturday for a stay this week. Downtown Montreal, 1 night, 3*, middle of the week. $65 was rejected... I didn't know you could not bid again after with the same condition! Live and learn... Tried 2.5* and also rejected. I didn't go lower and didn't feel going out of downtown so finally booked with Yahoo for CAN$158 all taxes included at the Cantlie.
Ok you pros... Did I do good? :D

P.S. Is Cantlie SP-friendly?

There is a 2-night minimum requirement on PL bids. So maybe that's why you got turned down? I stayed at the Cantlie four years ago and I liked it a lot. Back then, i got it for $80 CAD/night. And yeah, you should have no problem getting SP to come up and see you.

It's okay. It's almost comparable to the Hyatt, but the location is not as good. By the ways, the masseuse who works there is very cute! If she is the same one who was working there during Jazz Festival.

I do note that my one night bid for a 3* was accepted by Delta Montreal. I didn't see anywhere a stated minimum nights. But maybe that was why my lower bids were repeatedly rejected....

EB, thanks for the tip on the masseuse!

2 Night Minimum

There is no such thing as a minimum 2 night bid on Priceline, to my knowledge. I have made 1 night bids in the past.

I just went in to Priceline's website to see if I could put in a bid for one night and at no point was I stopped from doing so.

My bad then

I stand corrected on this 2-night minimum thing. That's good for us. PL must have changed this recently?

In the past 5 years I've been using PL there's never been a minimum night stay requirement.

residence inn on Peel

for the PL fans here, I got the Residence Inn for $60 (US) for two nights [R'Inn is a 2.5* hotel per PL] .. total with taxes was $142.20 Now, I wonder if this hotel is escort friendly. The last trip to Montreal, I got the Novotel ($58 on Hotwire last year .. difference a year makes with the strength of Canadian dollar).

so, have any stay at this hotel and had an outcall?

Outcalls not a problem..

Sure, I stayed there a week and had a visit every day without a problem. Even had some come quite late. You're just being paranoid. :D

The RI is kind of old; The A/C's are just a small window unit and not a build-in wall unit, they were noisey, but cooled OK. Rooms were a good size. Lobby is small so the girls do walk right by the front desk. I assume they know how to act or what to say; they never had a problem getting up to the room. One LDL girl came in very late and was obviously dressed like a working girl, but no problems getting up to the room.

Enjoy...
