Priceline Update

The Hyatt recently accepted 2 different $50 Priceline bids, for multinight stays in mid-May. A total bargain at that price, but note that the Holiday Inn Select and perhaps even the dreaded Crowne Plaza may be lurking in wait to accept such bids.

I got Hyatt (Montreal) for US$45 - one night on May 6th through priceline. :D

I just got back and placed my bid in early March for my stay from April 29-May 2nd for two rooms. Bid $40 for 3* and got the Holiday Inn Select which I thought was fine. And for $40 a night it really was just fine.

Oh and in case it makes a difference, and I am not sure this is always the case but there were three channels of free porn (eventually dropped down to one on monday) going on in my room. :)

My $51 and $52 for a 3-star both got rejected. They indicated that they would accept my bid if i increased it by $18. I passed. I know it's either the Delta Mtl or the dreaded Crowne Plaza (the dungeon). Patience is a virtue, after all.

Re: for the day

I don't believe anything less than a regular hotel day is available from Priceline. Noon to 4pm is a tough time slot as it is right between checkout time and checkin time. Extended checkout may be an option, but may not be a sure thing. May be the Chablis or Ideal is a better option?

Delta

Got Delta on Kennedy recently for $54 thru hotwire. It was listed as a 3.5 star hotel.

Delta was very busy when I stayed there. There were two bus load of young people staying at the hotel, two or three meetings/conferences going on downstairs, and to top all that, Just for Laughs was prospecting for victims in the elevator area.

Just for Laughs from what I gathered is like Candid Camera in the U.S. I got into an elevator with two other very handsome young men. They were kissing their young and stunning wives and waving their young children goodbye right before the elevator door closed. Once the door closed, these two men were embracing and kissing each other passionately. I was the only other person in the elevator. Then they stopped and the elevator door opened. Somehow we were still on the lobby floor and their wives and children were outside, waving to them again. The elevator door closed again, and they started up the action again. All in a sudden the door opened and their wives were outside looking in, and saw them in action. The wives were shocked and were covering the eyes of their children with their hands. Their wives were asking if I saw the same thing they saw. I was surprised but sensed that something fishy was going on. They were filming my reaction. They do ask you to sign a release before showing you on TV. Turns out that they were in the hotel for awhile and set up different scenarios to catch the reactions of unsuspecting victims.

Sounds like it is either for a TV program or a festival. I did catch a bit of Gags on TV while I was waiting for an SP to show up at a hotel- pretty funny stuffs and gave me quite a few laughs.

I want you guys to fully appreciate the prices we are getting Montreal hotels for on Priceline, so I will share with you the following information.

I am taking a short trip to New York City next week and will be staying overnight. I placed a total of 14 Priceline bids on New York City 3 star hotels going to $190(US) and had nothing accepted. $190!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note that Priceline breaks Manhattan into 7 geographical areas, downtown (SoHo), 3 midtown sections (east, west and south) and 3 uptown sections. I bid in all 7 areas going to $190 on a freaking 3 star, nothing accepted!!!!! And the 3 stars in NYC are probably no better than the Montreal Hyatt which you can get for under $50...........

Nyc

EB,

NYC from what I heard is a ridiculous city. Supposedly to get a nice room in the famous SoHo hotel there you have to pay like 1k USD for one night.

Personally I don't get the place. As an attorney you must know that you can make big $$$ working there, but I here some guys spend two hours both ways every day communting to work.

Right now, it seems PL isn't accepting anything under $60 (or more) in Mtl, as far as bidding on a 3-star goes.

curious,

Very good question. I saw those same BFT bids and people getting the Waldorf Astoria (an excellent 4 star) for $120. I bid from $100 to $190 on both 3 and 4 stars, a total of 14 bids for a 1 night stay, with no bites. I don't know if something is going on as far as a convention, or not. I was actually hoping to get the Waldorf Astoria for somewhere in the $150 neighborhood and am bitterly disappointed that I had no takers going to $190 for 3 stars and up in all 7 districts of Manhattan!!!!!!!!!!!! My stay is not until the end of next week so I will try again Tuesday night and report back. In the interim, I will be carefully monitoring BFT to see what happens in between now and then.

SK,

No Saturday check in. I bid from $170 up in increments of $10 and I finally got the Milennium Broadway hotel at 145 West 44th Street, New York City for $220/night, with tax came to $265!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe this property is on Times Square or in that area.

Bud Fox, I am wondering if this is the same hotel you were telling me about?????????

Anyway, to all the hobbyists I have heard recently complaining about not being able to get Montreal 3 star hotels for under $60, show some freakin appreciation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you going during a big convention week or is it a length of stay issue?

Curious,

I now have an answer to your question. There is a stationary manufacturer's convention in NYC this week (at the Javits Center), the largest of its kind in the world, and that is why all the hotels are sold out.

Recently got:

Holiday Inn Select Centreville $55 USD

Is that the one in Chinatown? I got it for $57 through Hotwire. If that's the one, did you try to upgrade or check into it?

Warning on "The Plaza"!

I just read on BFT that the Crown Plaza has apparently been dropped by Crown and is now known simply as "The Plaza." They are looking for an "internationally renowned hotel brand" to pick them up. Meanwhile, they are still accepting and honoring Priceline bookings.

Under these circumstances Priceline should drop them immediately. If "The Plaza" accepts your 3 star booking I would demand that Priceline rescind the bid.
