So I went to the liquor store this morning seeking something to bring to my neighbor's Kentucky Derby party this afternoon and I saw something I never saw before in the local package store- Piehole. It's apparently an import from Canada, a bottled blend of Canadian whiskey and Cherry Pie Liquer. Intrigued, I purchased a bottle, thinking it would be an ideal shot liquor that will enhance, rather than clash with, the pitcher of mint julep my neighbor will be serving. Was this a good idea? What should I expect from this Piehole? Looks like its 35% alcohol/70 proof.

To each their own but I think it tastes like cough syrup but women tend to like it more than men.

Next year bring a bottle of Woodford and you will get a nod and a wink from the KY (assuredly gentleman) host.

I suspect it is a product that you will see today and will be gone tomorrow. Probably just Canadian whiskey and soda stream cherry flavoring. Just add some grenadine to your whiskey and you will probably have the same product.

I do not think they sell Gran Gala in Quebec, Cointreau is similar in price to Grand Marinier without the spices. Triple sec is also a good choice at a lower price to Cointreau.

I think Gran Gala is superior to Cointreau and Triple Sec in this class of liqueurs. It’s more comparable to Grand Marnier but with better price point. I am very surprised to hear it’s not sold in Quebec as it’s being marketed as distinctively Canadian albeit made with an Italian brandy. The brandy component distinguishes Grand Marnier and Gran Gala from Cointreau and Triple Sec, which do not have brandy as its base ingredient.

Look behind you.
For the vodka lovers see if you can locate Unruley vodka, made in BC from honey..... Gives Grey Goose a good run for the money.
