So, me and a few friends of mine have noticed a tendency in Montreal for people to like make really gross racial stereotypes about people of non european origins. While this is something that is usually more typical among the more trashy or more bottom of the barrel elements of society in say Singapore or Dubai, it is pretty accepted in what are seen as even more middle/upper class elements of society here. Like i'd expect these sorts of attitudes to be more common in more rural areas where people are just not very well educated or exposed to other cultures and don't know any better, but like in a metropolitan and diverse city, it's kind of disturbing that these attitudes are even tolerated. It's bad for business, it's trashy, and contributes to a view of quebec as being more backwards/hick from an international businessmen pov.

What exactly are you talking about? This is kind of a cryptic, conclusory statement about another unidentified statement. Why don't you let the reader judge what is "gross" and a "racial stereotype" by providing the unidentified statements without any labels attached?

It is a different reality when you are not on the receiving end of this. Like when girls often say Indian men are smelly and cheap. I dunno who they are talking about, girls often complement me on how good I smell. I shower daily, put deodorant and cologne. I spend decent at the clubs. But apparently if they come across one non White men that does that, now they label all men from that race as such. Indian men are a victim of sterotypes. And it is non European women doing this also, not just European. Other races are victims of sterotypes and racism also. But I always said everyone is entitled to be racist, it is a free country. But these types of threads are popping up often because it really does suck to be on the receiving end of this. Something to think about.

Personally I don't care of you are black, brown, yellow, white or blue... Well perhaps blue as you may not he breathing. Just be nice, don't become a parasite on our governments ( our tax dollars ) generosity, cleanup after yourself & don't abandon pets ( fucking hate that ). I am in Pattaya now and and you want to talk about racism, not kind words about Indians in North Pattaya.

This is a topic that interests me a lot and on which I have read quite a bit, so let me summarize my findings:

As you probably know, immigration has been at a record high in Canada in recent years, leading to a rapidly chancing racial makeup in our large cities (to be clear: less white). From a sociological and psychological perspective, the increase of racism that you describe was actually expected. It has been shown that too much immigration leads to an erosion of trust in society, which is the most important element that keeps it holding together. People become more on edge, less trusting of their neighbours, etc. Imagine living in the neighbourhood where you grew up and 20 years later, a large portion of your neighbours do not share the same culture as you, do not celebrate the same holidays, don't watch the same sports on TV, etc. We revert to our primal instincts of "us vs them", which can manifest themselves as racism or xenophobia. This phenomenon is not unique to Montreal. (We were not historically that "diverse" of a metropolis BTW) Surveys across the US and Canada confirm these increasingly negative attitudes towards immigration. Did the majority of people suddenly became racists? In a way, yes! Why? Because most people did not like what they felt on the streets and in their communities in recent years. Are they justified? I don't know. What I can say for sure is that it is– tragically–human nature.

I don t get along with some cultures as i don t get along with some peoples ( not much , really) for x reasons. I just avoid.
Racism is when you hate . Otherwise it s just people stating stereotypes and i have the right to speak up my mind freely in a civilized way whenever i want. If my speech make you happy, good for you. If not , please feel free to be offended. Nobody s perfect.

If it makes you feel better, "we" also make gross racial stereotypes about people of European origin too. "We" even hate on "The French".
We get told to "learn French" but if there is proof of the fact that we are in the never-ending process of learning (e.g. an accent, or not knowing the difference between the genders of inanimate objects) then the BS comes out too.

Does it make Montreal look backwards/hick? Are we permanently behind the times? Are we unwelcoming to outside business?
Do we know all the answers to these questions already? yes. Am I making you feel better? no.

fun (useless) fact, i recently learned that about 30% of the words in the English language come from French
Most of french came from vulgar latin, there is no backwards limit. At one time we were all making the same grunting noises!

I wonder why we can’t call french quebecer haters as racists…

.... technically that would be a racist comment. That would be like saying all indian and chinese men smell bad and have micro dicks.

Maybe but this specific thread seems to me like it's trolling over nothing. I asked the OP to state exactly what he is talking about rather than cryptically allude to unidentified conclusory statements which are labelled as "stereotyped" and "racist". He (or she) has been unable to provide the actual statements so that we can read what the OP is talking about and draw our own conclusions about it.

I say don't feed the trolls. I think the Mods have given similar cautions. I don't want to speak for them but as far as I can tell this is a thread about NOTHING. OP hasn't identified any statements just his or her or their own subjective and perhaps biased conclusions.
