you don't stop your regular hobbying, it's a way to set the funds aside for a more expensive experience that you might not go for if the money has to come out all at once

Reviews are only an indicator of the past. If they're all good, it doesn't mean you won't have a bad experience. You can think it's more likely you get a good experience, but in the end, you can only hope that it will be good!
I think stellar reviews only gives stellar expectations… We never know if chemistry will kick in or not. More likely yes
You can try to reduce the risk to a minimum, I agree. But my point was that, there is never no-risk and it's always like "going on a blind date and paying hundred of $ upfront hoping it will be good."
What I observed is that few providers gain substantially from good reviews nor are they impacted from bad reviews. On the other side, a lot of bad reviews will bring a lot of attention to said provider and bring her lots of opportunities, and the result seems to be the same with a tremendous amount of stellar reviews. The amount of reviews seems to impact someone's popularity rather than them being good or bad. So, are they that useful?
I see your point, and I know there was further statements about random thought vs financial advice, but I think the idea of a raffle is what I liked, not so much the need to save money over 12 months this way... In that vein, I agree, terrible idea lol.
Yes, that works too! But in the meantime, it's quite possible that she is making plenty of money and is busy, so she doesn't lose that much by not having you as a client. Indeed, we all decide how we want to spend our money, of course, some accept a bit more risk than others, and we all develop our strategies and won't change them if they work for us. My point is simply that reviews impact you more than us! And that a bad experience can arise at any time, after all, we are human.
So why wait! Why not be the first to write that glowing review?
How about you cancel 2 of your regular cheap appointments and go see someone you are dying to see.
Beats having to wait 12 months.
Seeing an SP should not be like a mortgage on a house if you need to save for 12 months before you can afford one session then you should wake up and know that you are struggling like fuck and you shouldn’t be hobbying at all.
Anyway I don’t know why I am arguing over this I will go see whoever I want to see whenever I want to see them, that is of course if they are willing to see me.
You are right there is no guarantee that you will have a great experience, but the odds are certainly more in your favour
Now with pages and pages of bad reviews it is a bit different, why would anybody think they would not end up the same.
It is like taking a walk on a street that is known for being in the worst part of the city with the highest number of crimes being committed on.
Would you walk down that road believing it is all nonsense and you are safe.

I agree with @Fradi . If you have to have a raffle and wait a year to see an Indy, then you shouldn’t be hobbying at all.
Everyone has different budgets, frequency of hobbying and preferences (Indy’s vs agency). Stick to a budget and hobby according to what fits in your budget.
In my case, I started seeing a couple of Indy’s lately. So I’ll possibly hobby less frequently, but I find there are some advantages with seeing Indy’s (less rushed, more personalized, etc).
To each their own. But I definitely won’t hold a raffle. lol!!

No one is asking you to argue, you are free to do what you want. I was under the impression this thread was to share sort of amusing ideas that goes through your head without much analysis, hence the name of random thoughts, as stated before it is not financial advise or life coaching either on who you should spend your time with. I was expecting jokes and sarcastic replies... this was not meant to be a disruptive innovation idea to revolutionize the indy sp industry.

my thoughts tonight : i really hate this humidity and it's making me feel sleepy. i had a long date earlier and it was really pleasant but i went home feeling drained so now i'm just in bed cuddling with my cat i took her to the vet yesterday and finally found out how old she is, she is between 3 and 5 years old which means when i initially began fostering her (she ended up being mine) she was probably still a kitten. she is healthy. i may buy a harness to take her to the park!
