Real number required in Montreal?

I use a texting app for all of my hobby-related communications. I've had the same number for about a decade and have used it all over the world—including dozens of outcalls in Toronto—without issue, until Montreal. So far, two agencies—EscortsXO was one—have immediately replied that they need my real number for bookings. Anyone know why? No way I'm giving my real number to an agency.

Any workaround? Perhaps I should suggest PM'ing here or calling from the hotel?

The work around that I've used in the past probably won't work because you mentioned that there is no way your giving them your real number. If for some reason my phone wasn't working coming up from the US I would give the agencies I planned to use the heads up and give them my app number I was going to use. In your situation a burner phone is probably the way to go. Or if you have a dual SIM phone you can add another line, but that's all I got. Good luck.

You can get yourself a low budget second line with fido or lucky mobile for $15/month and use that line for the hobby. Since its not your primary phone, you can burn it and get a new number whenever you like and its an actual number not an app. This is what I used to do. Today I wouldn't care much if I was dealing with legit Indys or agencies. XO is a legit agency.

for the women’s safety. If something happens to them, they want to know who they were with. They also want to make sure you are not a time waster, a lot will use fake numbers to harass providers

Too many banned clients (violent, dangerous, gross) using texting apps to get around bans and rebooking. It's so easy to just get a new number every time.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not in Montreal enough for a second phone to make sense, especially since I've never had problems anywhere else. I just found it interesting that at least some agencies in Montreal verify numbers and demand a non-app number even for hotel outcalls. If they're afraid it's a fake booking, seems like a callback to the hotel—as agencies around the world are known to do—would be better for all involved.

What's the difference between a texting app and a burner phone for purposes of screening out banned clients? Does the $10 for the phone or SIM really deter such people? Why isn't this an issue elsewhere, including Toronto?

I use a text app for bookings with a popular agency. I’ve been dealing with them for years, so they accept that I use a text app. My understanding is that they won’t accept text apps for new clients (based on what I’ve heard and based on what people have said on this site).

I tried to book with another popular agency with text app (I hadn’t used that agency in a few years), and I was refused :(

My understanding: sounds like they’ll accept text apps for long time clients, refuse for new clients. But I understand why agencies and Indys refuse text apps in general. I might have to use my real number if one day I want to book an Indy that doesn’t know me, but for now text app works.

Likewise, i also use a text application and have not experienced any issues with agencies I used in the past. However, the 1st time I did, they refused. After talking with the agency, they agreed to accept my number if I could confirm my ID with my MERB handle. I did and problem resolved . Don't know if that still would work but hey, give it a try.

It's hassle but I accept it as a modest safeguard. Just one extra step to reduce the chances of weirdos and crazies. It's not foolproof, they're not going to weed them all out, but requiring an extra several loonies to buy a burner phone probably reduces the weirdos and crazies a great deal.

The MTL agencies are pretty laid-back as it is. I'm a good client and I want to separate myself from the weirdos and crazies, so I accept it.

If you're Canadian and in Toronto, I've found the best deal to be the SpeakOut wireless SIMs from 7-11 (not available in MTL)

Hello Gents,

Any recos on where to buy a cheap burner phone in downtown Montreal? Will be visiting from the US and my phone won't work when I'm there.

Will agencies accept my booking from the hotel phone? (out or in)?

Not sure how they work in Canada, but when I travel to Europe and Asia these days I use an esim. Super easy, let's you use your own phone and cheaper than a burner. You do need to make sure your phone can use an esim but most models over the last 2 years are compatible.

Much more effort involved. You can easily cycle app phone numbers. Go through hundreds

You can't with burners. Too much work.

Also I used to use burners. 30 minute setup and going to the store to buy one was too much work

What's a good place in Montreal to buy a pay-go burner phone?

(Don't say "anywhere" - looking specific store name/phone number).

But we're talking about lunatic stalkers here, not the average guy. It all seems pointless. I might see it for an outcall to a private residence, but for hotels that are covered with cameras?
