I don't know why, but I always find myself at the Fire Grill... at the bar... eating steak.. drinking wine.. and chatting with the cute bar girl who always remembers me, by name! Im usually only in town once every 6-8 weeks on average.

Foods good also! LOL

Since I spent a month in China in 2008 for the Olympic Games, I never experienced a chinese restaurant who come close to what I enjoy so much there.

I often said there's no real chinese restaurant in Montreal. I will never say that again since I discovered tonight Kanbai on Ste-Catherine Street W. (between St-Mathieu and St-Marc)

I pass in front of this restaurant hundreds of time but never decided to try it before.

I had an incredible experience and I wiil be at that place very often from now on.

(only negative points : no beer no wine)

I have never tried that place. I will check it out sometime. In that area, the only decent Chinese places there are PM and Wok Cafe. Both are mainly Cantonese style with a bit of other dishes from other places, basically Chinese Fast Food if you will. If you want Great Thai, if the place is still open, go into La Faubourg in the Food Court, Bangkok Express is one of the best places I have ever had Pad Thai. Hope this helps! :)

Their Burgers are pretty good, but I have not been in 3 or 4 years. I guess I will have to try them again and look for the waitress. ;) Go to Mr Steer Burger. They are still damned good. MBurgr used to be great but too expensive. If you want a good burger that you can customize, try Burger deVille. Hope this helps!

On my recent trip my friends and I ate at Shinji on Notre Dame in Old Montreal. The sushi there is a bit overpriced for what they are serving. In particular, they are skimping on the amounts of fish they are using and you can't be charging those prices and skimping. Also, we sat at a table facing the street and the chairs were bolted to the floor and couldn't swivel sideways, so it was extremely uncomfortable getting up from the chair during and after dinner. Not really a great spot.

On the night of the Euphoria Mini Party we had, I ate dinner again at Deville Dinerbar on Stanley. For my money they have the best entree salads in downtown Montreal. I love their baked chicken salad (called the Deville Nacho Salad)- it's delicious. http://www.devilledinerbar.com/

Doca Restaurant, corner of Wellington and Peel.
Have been there twice. A more elegant, but still trendy restaurant, that has nice well dressed crowd.
Entrees and mains were all very good although it is an expensive meal.

Overall an enjoyable experience

Greetings,

Taking in a play this weekend at Centaur. Anyone have any good Indian or Malaysian places that they would like to share? Doesn't have to be Old Port area.

Thanks,
Fredd

I don't think either Bonaparte or L'épicier - both in the old port - can be beat for quality cuisine!

Was in the mood for a nice healthy salad tonight and after a email with EB about if they are big enough for a meal (which he said they are huge) i decided to try the exact same salad. Outcome? Wonderful and yes HUGE, took some home. I would definately repeat and the menu looks to have many things i would try.

Deville's is awesome...I used to eat there almost every week. Great food, ambience, etc. Never tried any of their salads though, will have to check it out next time.

I should make a correction from my prior post on Deville Dinerbar- the baked chicken salad I ordered is called the Deville Macho Salad, not the Deville Nacho Salad. The website calls it the "Nacho" Salad but it does not have any Nachos- it has baked free range organic chicken breast, cornbread croutons, and goat cheese among many other things on it........it is a huge entree salad as Iggy mentioned,

Sushi in Montreal is nothing compared to New York, Vancouver or even Toronto. Ok sushi here that is not all you can eat, if you like Fusion, go to Miso on St Catherine's corner Atwater. I used to love Katsura then Sakura but both are gone. Zenya is not bad either.

I would agree and would even add New Haven to that list, where the Yale community supports a thriving restaurant scene in general and several top notch sushi restaurants in particular, the best of which is Jerry San's Sushi near the Yale Bowl.

Mikasa on Peel was my go-to downtown Montreal sushi restaurant for many, many years. Unfortunately they moved outside the downtown. They were overpriced but I didn't mind paying the downtown premium because they did a lot of innovative rolls and did them well. They closed for about a year in 2009 when a chunk of the facade of the Marriott Residence Inn (also no longer there) fell off and killed a woman who was eating dinner at the Mikasa terrace which was at that time under a small glass enclosure. Mikasa closed for a year after that tragedy, reopened and then left after a few more years. Some time in late 2013 or early 2014 they closed as I recall.

I gotta try Miso. I will be staying in that Chinatown II neighborhood in July and enjoy availing myself of the neighborhood eateries so it's on my TDL.
