Mignon in st Henri or old port is very good. It's not unlimited steak, but unlimited fries. I don't think the unlimited steak exists in Montreal.
yes, i'm familar w/ Mignon. For this place this 'dish' is their item (not just on the menu etc) but I never said about unlimited steak lol... just the frites. does'nt exist anywhere unless some kind of buffet.

St-Viateur is the all time best, but I am biased as I was born almost next door! :)
The Montreal Bagels are great, especially when purchased fresh. I have also been to Olmo's (I live in CT) and their bagels are different than NY style bagels, Montreal bagels or any other that I have ever had. My actual preference would be a St. Viateur bagel cooked fresh as I like the slight sweetness of the Montreal bagel and it's texture when fresh. Olmo's is using a very different flour which is explained in the above article. They are wildly popular locally just like St. V is in Montreal. It's just a different bagel. It's like a 2nd cousin to the New York bagel and a more distant 6th or 7th cousin to the Montreal.

If you like Korean/Japanese style bbq, I highly recommend this place:

It's a relatively newly opened AYCE Japanese BBQ spot, within the last 6 months or so. Service is quick and friendly, and while the menu is not expansive, it hits all the right spots. If you have not tried these types of restaurants before, the concept is that you cook your own food on a small grill that is setup in the middle of the table. They have various meats, veggies, and a few seafood items, which all usually come pre-marinated. It's really an enjoyable experience, to cook/share a meal with. However, I came here on a Friday night and there was an almost 2hr wait, but I think you can get reservations for parties of 6+ or get on their waitlist via Yelp.

Enjoy ;)

Great suggestion, quite enjoyable, on St Catherine West.

Anyone know some good "American style" diners in Montreal?

I feel like there's none downtown.

I'm craving for greasy spoon food

Jukebox burgers, NDG luncheonette, Deville on Stanley, Green Spot on notre-dame ?
Deville on Stanley was my go to for many years. I haven't been to Montreal since 2019, but between 2012 and 2017 or so, I ate there every single trip. I even went on an SA date with a lady and dined there. They had particularly good Ahi Tuna Tacos. I one time ran into then Montreal Alouettes starting QB Darian Durant there. He was sitting alone at the bar, as was I. I had no idea who he was. He started a conversation with me, which I think started by him asking me what was good on the menu. Eventually he told me he played QB for the Alouettes and we talked about football- NFL and CFL. Darian was at the end of his career at the time. Seemed like a very good guy. I was surprised he was alone, no entourage, no girl. Totally unpretentious regular kind of guy who didn't act like a star athlete. He told me his family was back in South Carolina. I sensed he was homesick, and alone, with family and girl back in SC. So it kind of made sense to me. Nobody at Deville seemed to know who he was. His career ended that year (2017) which was his last of a solid 12 year CFL career. He started 15 games, and passed for 3,233 yards with 15 TDs and 16 INTs. I guess he felt it was time after that season, to go back home.

Damas
1201 Ave Van Horne,
Outremont, Quebec
H2V 1K4

Damas is undoubtedly one of the top three restaurants in Montreal. What makes it even more impressive is its location on Van Horne Street, which is not typically known for its culinary offerings. However, the quality of this restaurant surpasses any preconceived notions one may have about the area. The cuisine at Damas is a unique blend of Middle Eastern flavors, with a focus on Syrian, Moroccan, and Lebanese dishes. As soon as you step foot inside, the ambiance immerses you in the sights and scents of Middle Eastern cuisine.

While Damas may be on the pricier side, every penny spent here is well worth it. The sheer quality of the cuisine will make you fall head over heels in love with Middle Eastern food. From the moment you enter until your very last bite, you will find yourself licking your fingers in delight. The traditional hummus, for example, is of the highest quality and is served with original, freshly baked pita bread that is simply divine. The salads are nothing short of exceptional, with flavors that burst in your mouth and a generous drizzle of authentic olive oil over fresh, crisp vegetables.

Moving on to the main courses, the lamb is an absolute must-try. Its tenderness and mind-blowing flavors will leave you speechless. Additionally, the restaurant offers a wide selection of expertly crafted cocktails, prepared by top-notch bartenders. It is true that dining at Damas can be a bit pricey, but the experience is comparable to that of a luxury service provider. The impeccable service and outstanding food quality are what truly set this restaurant apart and establish it as the crème de la crème of dining establishments in Montreal.

One of the finest restaurants in Montreal. Forget the a la carte menu and just go for the tasting menu. Expensive and a lot of food, but so worthwhile. What's good? Everything!

I used to go here almost every week with an SP. They have fantastic burgers and good seating. Love this place

Also, guys, I am going thru this thread after, but please give me some suggestions for "fancier" restaurants in Montreal where reservations aren't too difficult to get

I have a regular SP right now who doesn't want to go to places like DeVille. I suggested it and she said "I want to go somewhere nicer". She's also picky with food like she doesn't have dairy. (I have never taken an SP out that is so picky)

So any suggestions for nicer restaurants that fit the bill? Preferably somewhere a little more intimate with seating not too close to one another. Last time I went to a nice restaurant and we were 1 foot away from the next table and we were talking about SPs and hobby and the next table just looked at us funny.

And maybe something on the safer side like Italian .. or steakhouse.. or something similar

Thanks guys

Without a doubt, the restaurant can be classified as a high-end establishment. I can confidently say this based on my personal experience of being a loyal customer for the past decade.

Throughout my countless visits, I have taken it upon myself to explore every single item on the menu. Remarkably, I have yet to encounter a single offering that did not tantalize my taste buds.

From the exquisite delicacies at the top of the menu to the bottom, each dish has been a true culinary masterpiece. It is an exceptional to find a restaurant where every item on the menu is crafted with such care and delivers an unforgettable dining experience.

I like Moretti's in Griffintown. It's a pretty good Italian restaurant. It's more expensive than DeVille but the food is much better and even though the seating can be a little close they play loud-ish music so you can chat privately. It's a fun spot with "beautiful people" in a supper club environment. Every date I've taken there has really liked it.

Hey buddy,Moretti, once renowned for its exceptional quality and delectable cuisine, used to be a true gem in the culinary world. They took their craft seriously, and their dedication was truly reflected in the mouthwatering dishes they served.

However, it seems that as they gained a regular clientele, their food has gradually lost its finesse and has become lackluster in flavor. I must say, though, that I agree with you when it comes to the ambiance and overall vibe of the restaurant; it is undeniably enjoyable, with the occasional sighting of service providers or even strippers.

Nevertheless, when it comes to the crucial aspect of food quality, I can only rate Moretti a mere 5 out of 10, compared to the impressive 8.5 out of 10 they achieved when they first opened their doors a decade ago. To make matters worse, even their once impeccable cocktails have started to lose their charm.

Sadly, it seems that Moretti will never quite recapture the greatness it possessed in its early days.

Hey buddy, When it comes to the nightlife in Montreal, I have a knack for knowing the best spots. Since you're seeking my advice, let me give you a detailed review of KYO Bar for better insight.

Kyo Bar Japonais
711 Côte de la Place-d'Armes,
Montréal, QC
H2Y 2X6

Located hidden beneath a popular hotel in the old Port, KYO Bar has managed to stay under the radar for quite some time. However, they are well-known for their exclusive range of traditional Japanese cuisine, including Izakaya fare and sushi.

Now, let's talk about the service. Personally, I've never seen the same waiter twice despite visiting every three months. It seems like they might have some administrative issues to address, the service is average.Nevertheless, the ambiance and the food itself are truly remarkable. Keep in mind that the basement location can make it quite noisy, but that's also part of its charm. It becomes an immersive experience with your date, as the noise brings you closer together and adds to the overall enjoyment. However, if you prefer a quieter atmosphere, I would recommend going early.

Speaking of food, the sushi at KYO Bar is exceptional. They also offer a selection of tapas plates that are both delicious and flavorful. However, I must admit that the food quality has slightly declined compared to previous years. It's a trend I've noticed with several restaurants that initially had great food quality. I can't quite pinpoint the reason behind this decline, but rest assured, the prices at KYO Bar remain reasonable and affordable compared to other establishments.

In conclusion, I highly recommend visiting KYO Bar, especially for a date night. Despite the minor issues with service and food quality, the overall experience is worth it. Just be prepared for a lively atmosphere and don't hesitate to arrive early if you prefer a quieter setting.

Thanks man, I gotta check this place out.
But have anything for a "safe" cuisine pick like Italian or French or a steakhouse
