I decided a little experiment is in order. I looked for a review in which a bilingual reviewer posted his review in both French, and English. I found such a review by Pipo King on Melissa Of Euphoria. I quoted the text of Pipo King's post. Then below that I Google translated into English his French review. Contrast that with Pipo King's own translation of his French into English:

I'm surprised that it is not said here but most translators translate Parisian French and most people on this board speak Quebecoise. I can remember in 2007 and 2008, when I first joined, trying to translate this forum and getting nowhere. A guy named Don Corleone translated perfect. He told me that it was because he spoke Parisian French. I have tried to learn Portuguese and I have found that Portugal Portuguese is very different than the Brazilian version. Can the same be said for French? English? I have no problem reading and understanding someone from England. I have to say that the Brazilian Portuguese Google translator is getting better and better.

Its true that translator will be pretty good with french from France but suck at Quebec french. It's exactly the same like you said for portugese or for Spannish from Spain and Mexico. A little bit more info on the many differences: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_French_lexicon
