Reason for the post is a friend of my son is in critical condition now, had a RHD Silvia and tried to pass someone and is now in the hospital, do not know what happened yet.
Quebec has banned them, unless it is already registered no new plates allowed. I would never buy one for safety sake.

I thought I read that these right hand drive cars were banned in the USA but not Canada. Where did this accident happen? Apparently even tho they are legal in Canada they are very expensive to insure.

The accident was in Quebec, no new registration allowed.

This past weekend I was on my bike ride and I saw a car scoot past me and what I noticed immediately is that there was nobody seated in the driver's seat but I did see a head in the passenger seat. I was like "WTF?" and I immediately thought it's either RHD or one of those self-driving Ubers. It started to freak me out a little bit......just glad they passed me without hitting me.

People want to be exclusive. I have seen right hand drive Japanese autos from Japan on Montreal streets. These cars are expensive to insure and repair. I am sure parking is a nightmare.

According to stats you are 30% more likely to have an accident in a RHD here in North America.It's also distracting and disorienting for other drivers when they see them, as Eager mentioned, and this can also cause crashes.

It would be the same as a LHD car turning into a right lane with someone ahead of you, if there was a stalled car or something by the time you saw it..... too late.
Update on my son's friend, off critical, allowed to see visitors beside family.
