Has anybody driven to the US in the last 2 or 3 weeks? Am thinking of crossing the border for my 3rd shot. No test needed, amirite?
I'm already due but can't get the booster in QC till probably February.
Your welcome to come to NY for a free booster shot.Has anybody driven to the US in the last 2 or 3 weeks? Am thinking of crossing the border for my 3rd shot. No test needed, amirite?

Went 2 weeks ago, no issue getting into US. Coming back as long as you fill out Arrive Can app before crossing, should be no issues. I would check out the questions the app asks beforehand to make sure.Has anybody driven to the US in the last 2 or 3 weeks? Am thinking of crossing the border for my 3rd shot. Omicron is north/south/east/west no? Recent reports indicate booster is effective with omicron.I was all set to travel to Montreal next week and burn a few remaining days off but its looking more like the smart move is to just stay put in the states. I'd hate to be stuck in Canada for the holidays if I got the COVID. Even though there is no real way to stop me from driving back, I'd be concerned being in a hospital away from family. I'll have to load up the golf clubs and head south I guess.
My post was about being stuck in a foreign country more so than it was about the new Covid variant. Being an American, if I get COVID while here in the states there's no border to cross and unique rules about quarantining away from the support of my friends and family. I am fully vaccinated and have received my booster shot but that doesn't mean I can't catch Covid. I didn't want to risk being in Canada and catching Covid. Also, I didn't want to potentially get Covid and bringing it home to my family and friends for the holidays. The better move for me if I do decide to head north would be to go after Christmas. At least that way I have no major family gatherings when I get home.Omicron is north/south/east/west no? Recent reports indicate booster is effective with omicron.
North American governments that have huge vaccine stockpiles (i.e. US, Canada) have been trying that for how many months now? Yet, we still have unvaccinated people. Just this morning, some lady at my gym told me she thinks the entire pandemic is overblown and the 800,000 dead can't possibly be from COVID. So suffice to say, she admitted she hasn't been vaccinated. Besides, fully vaccinated people are testing positive too. It's the lesser severity of their cases that differs from the unvaccinated.efforts should be on vaccinating,
That's a tradeoff of sorts. Most of the tests that Canada requires for entry are the molecular kinds that are far more sensitive (detects smaller quantity of genetic material). But it takes a few hours to amplify the genetic material because that's the current speed of PCR. Meanwhile, the lesser sensitivity of rapid tests means it's over in 15 minutes, but there's a greater chance of a false negative result. So Canada's decision to require molecular tests is erring on the side of safety and more confidence in the results rather than convenience for the traveler.more accurate and faster rapid testing,
You already stated increasing health care capacity wouldn't happen overnight. So increased capacity might come in handy in the future, but we need it right now. But there are additional problems that make increasing capacity not even feasible right now. Healthcare is losing workers right now. I read a CBC story in September about nurses quitting in Quebec, and that same attrition is also happening with doctors and is also happening in the US. Workers are already burned out, and now they're facing another wave of hospitalizations. The huge workload of patients and the psychological toll of constant death are breaking some people and they're leaving the healthcare profession. For some, not even extra pay is enough incentive for them to stay.and shoring up the health care systems (even if not done overnight). Imagine if just half of all the economic losses were poured into our helth care system how much better the health network would be.
Your source is incorrect about the 24 hour requirement. It’s actually one day instead of 24 hours so as to make it easier for the person to get a test with results in time before their flight.I just found this quote in an article that was posted 12 hours ago.
"As early as Monday, the United States will require “all inbound international travellers” to get an antigen test within 24 hours of their departure.

Sounds like we are still good if driving to Canada, but the administration did a shit job of planning and communicating this change.
Don't mean to split hairs, but there's actually nowhere in that link that says you 'must have a PCR test'. It references a molecular test. So one can book a NAAT test (from a walgreens) and results typically come back within a few hours to your email (and it's free). I'm quite sure they do them on site, so results are quick. As of midnight tonight (21st Dec 12.01am), all Canadians returning from short trips, via land border, MUST have a PCR test.
So if you get a booster shot in Vermont, you need to get a PCR test, wait 3-5 days for a result then drive back.

Just another option ...
In NY the Covid positivity rate is at it's highest it's ever been and trying to get a Covid test is like trying to buy a Christmas tree on Christmas eve. No chance at getting tested until the earliest next week and that's a stretch.i tried the walgreens website, no appointments available anywhere
Nah. the 1 day test requirement is for US entry only. It's fairly easy to get into the US even with a 1-day window. The US accepts rapid antigen tests. I came home right before Christmas, turnaround for rapid antigen is still 15 minutes. You can also use take home tests that are also 15 minutes. Very easy to go to the US.More applicable to flying than driving, but the new 24-hour test requirement is a disaster. Not just when the obvious occurs (a positive result), but actually getting the damn test results.

The Plane Is Boarding, Where Are Your Test Results?
Christine Yi held out hope that the test results would come through until the doors to her flight’s boarding gate closed. Ah, I did not know this. Do you have a link to where I can read about the 14 day quarantine? I thought you just had to stay put until you tested negative again.Even though getting a test to get back into the USA by plane might be slightly easier from Canada, the main concern I would have flying back is if I tested positive. Now your stuck in Canada for 14 days at your own expense. No way I would fly to Canada now. If I had to fly because I lived far away, I would land in the US and drive across. You don't have to have any tests to get back in when you drive. So even if you felt sick and tested positive for COVID when you got home at least you'd b able to sleep in your own bed.
