I feel bad for the american people, the reasonable ones.
Thanks, pal. Yesterday, Mitch McConnell laid out the Republicans main goal for the next two years. Is it cutting taxes? Nope. Repealing health care reform? Nope. Changing energy policy? Nope. Immigration reform? Nope. Creating jobs? Nope. Reducing the federal deficit? Nope. Defeating Obama in 2012? You got it. Traitors in our midst.

Back in the 1960s, the Monkees had a song named "Daydream Believer." Here on merb, we have our very own Glen Beck believer. This poor pitiful little man whines and calls names all the while decrying the same, totally oblivious to the hypocrisy embedded in his every word.

To his daily gibberish, I offer the following column by Eugene Robinson from this morning's Washington Post:

Eugene Robinson said:
President Obama still has the ability to set the nation's agenda - and also the power of the veto, in case of emergency. Harry Reid is still Senate majority leader - and after the way he punched and scrapped his way to victory, who wants to mess with him? As for John Boehner, he'll soon learn that his new job requires a more extensive vocabulary than "no."

But amid the wreckage of Tuesday's GOP rampage, there's one person for whom I feel awful: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She's losing her job not because she does it poorly but because she does it so well.
Here's the rest of this fine article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/04/AR2010110406625.html

Consider this: Harry Truman tried to pass health care reform. Richard Nixon tried to pass health care reform. Bill Clinton tried to pass health care reform. Barack Obama did pass health care reform. He could not have done so without the good work of Mrs. Pelosi.

Yes, if you Google Eugene Robinson, you'll find he's nothing but a liberal hack who's never wrote a Centrist Word in his life: http://www.google.com/search?source...nUS371US371&q=eugene+robinson+washington+post

Isn't it interesting that Eugene Harold Robinson began his "enlightened" career writing for what? THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE!!!

Mr. Robinson has consistently played the race card to any advantage he can: http://www.indystar.com/article/201...r-instead?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Opinion|s

Here's the rest of his liberal resume:
Career
In 1976, he began his journalism career at the San Francisco Chronicle, where he covered the trial of publishing heiress Patty Hearst. He joined the Washington Post in 1980 and worked his way up through the ranks, starting as a city hall reporter. He then became assistant city editor, city editor, South America correspondent, London bureau chief, foreign editor, and, most recently, assistant managing editor. He began writing opinion columns for the paper in 2005.

Robinson appears frequently on MSNBC as a political analyst on shows such as Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Morning Joe, The Rachel Maddow Show and Hardball with Chris Matthews.

Robinson was awarded the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in recognition of his columns during the 2008 presidential campaign.[2]

[edit] Personal life
Robinson lives with his wife, Avis, and two sons in Arlington, Virginia.

Yes, Martin, there's no doubt that Gene Robinson writes from the left-side of the fence. What's more interesting is that you choose to discredit him with a screen from Janie Shimer. If you google Janie Shimer, you'll find that she's a right-wing screed-monger who has nothing better to do with her time than write moronic letters to the editors of about every paper in the country. Is that the best you can come up with, Martin? Are you more of a dope than I thought?

Elitist attitudes? Why do you insist on parroting the very dopiest of right wing false platitudes. Is championing the rights of the poor, minorities, and the disenfranchised elitist? If you really believe that, you're even more of dolt than I thought. Is supporting lifting a tax break on those making over $250,000 elitist? If you believe that, you're even more if a moron than I thought. Why is it that every time you open your mouth, we hear the voice of Glen Beck? Is that the best you can do?

Wow, it took all of that for you to even admit Robinson sits on the "left side of the fence". Quite an understatement with his resume. I've admitted extreme right wingers like the tea party simply don't make it. I see you continue to hold on to your left wing dogma. No compromise, just like Nancy Pelosi. She's the Wicked Bitch of the West and we shall call you what......Doesn't a Wicked B(W)itch have an evil coldhearted black cat?.....

There is apparently going to be no compromise from the right...Obama will have a tough road. I smell nothing but 2 years of gridlock and bullshit:rolleyes:.
You know, its not like they were handed a mandate...what people said was they want things to move FORWARD...not stand still - apparently NO ONE is listening!.

Republicans plan assault on healthcare law
By Donna Smith, Reuters

WASHINGTON — Congressional Republicans said on Sunday they plan a full-scale assault against President Barack Obama's healthcare overhaul next year but acknowledged it could take until after the 2012 presidential election to repeal it.

Representative Paul Ryan, expected to become chairman of the House Budget Committee chairman, said his fellow Republicans will try to deny funding for implementation of the healthcare legislation and hold hearings to point out its shortcomings when the new Congress convenes in January.

But full repeal of the law and replacing it may have to await the results of next election cycle, when control of Congress will again be up for grabs as well as Obama's bid for a second four-year term.

"This bill is such a fiscal and economic train wreck for our country and for the health care system itself," Ryan said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday."

"We're going to do everything we can to try and repeal and replace this thing. And ultimately, I think 2013 is when it will be done the right way," he added.

The healthcare law is a signature achievement for Obama's first term in office and he would most certainly veto any legislation that attempts to repeal it.

Fresh from their mid-term congressional election victory on November 2 that gave them control of the House of Representatives and reduced the Democratic majority in the Senate, Republican leaders said on Sunday that they would do whatever they could to disrupt implementation of the law.

REPUBLICANS EYE FUNDING

The landmark measure aims to extend health coverage to 33 million uninsured people and make it easier for individuals and small businesses to buy medical coverage. But critics say it creates too big a role for government in healthcare while failing to reduce soaring costs.

"What we're doing in my office is looking for the various parts of it that are subject to funding," Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell told CBS's "Face the Nation."

"We will be revisiting this issue time after time. The American people expect us to," McConnell said.

The bill enacted in March requires most Americans to obtain health insurance and provides federal subsidies to help middle- and low-income families afford it. It also includes penalties for large companies that do not provide insurance and have employees obtaining federally subsidized coverage.

Republicans campaigned against the bill as well as Democrats' handling of the weak economy. They won a sizable majority in the House and took six Senate seats from the Democratic majority. Democrats defended the health legislation arguing it puts an end to insurance companies discriminating against pre-existing conditions and charging higher premiums for women.

Most of the bill's provisions will not go into effect until 2014, including the coverage mandate and state-run insurance exchanges that will provide one-stop shopping for coverage.

But some of the more popular provisions, such as allowing young adults to stay on their parent's health policies until they turn 26, are already in effect.

Republicans are considering denying funds to the Internal Revenue Service that would be needed to enforce the coverage mandate.

They also are talking about denying money to the Health and Human Services Department that will play a major role in establishing coverage requirements and setting up the insurance exchanges.

Republican Senator James DeMint, a staunch supporter of the conservative Tea Party movement, said denying funds for implementation is the first step toward ultimate repeal.

"Most aspects of this new Obamacare are not implemented for two more years so it's very realistic to think we can slow the implementation of it or delay it and then replace it in 2012," DeMint told NBC's "Meet the Press.

Hello Jman,

Maybe this belongs here. Don't want to offend anyone by not talking about Obama. Thanks for supporting the move.

Hello all,

He has vowed to defund (not pay) workers and administrators of President Obama's health care plan, in fact he is against just about everything the Democrats have done.

Merlot

Here we go. As I pointed to in a previous post, there will be no compromises under Boehner or any other Conservative Republicans. There goal is dismantling Democratic programs, not solving the poor economic situation. These moves are right in line with nothing more than a return to the same Conservative views and policies that lead to the current mess.

Even if one believes President Obama's health care plan is too costly the fact that most of it's provisions haven't gone into effect yet proves conclusively it had nothing to do with the current state of the economy. This is nothing less than dissolution of a program outside of any possibility of improving the current state of the economy. Where are the ideas and actions that will help turn the economy around? If this is all the Republicans intend to do then it's tantamount to criminal neglect of national needs, and a betrayal of what the politically middle and independent voters elected them to do.

Obviously the Republicans are trying to capitalize on the momentum they think they have to attack Obama's health care program. But don't be surprised if the country or most of the voters start to see these moves as the same partisanship that led to their loss of seats in 1996 after another huge Republican triumph in 1994, for the same back-biting deadlocking kind of reasons.

Disgusting,

Merlot

Thanks Merlot. I believe it has some relevance in both threads;).

Relative to the Republicans from the far right and their misguided agenda...I sure hope someone gets the word to them quickly that the COUNTRY is just plain tired of the same old political BULLSHIT. We want progress and things fixed. Progress is built around compromise. It cannot be made when YOUR HEAD IS UP YOUR ASS...hope you are paying attention Mr. Boehner and Mr. Ryan.

Hopeful,

Jman

PS And I agree with whoever said that the Dems should get word to Pelosi to just sit down and shut up...its the best thing to do in the interest of compromise.

Where I belong.
This letter appeared today in the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader.

Some regular Joe with a whole lot more common sense than that poor slob said:
Thank you President Obama for the following:

1. The tax cut 95 percent of working Americans
received. Even though my tax reduction was only
$30 per paycheck (multiplied by 24 pay periods)
$720 annually is nothing to sneeze at.

2. The $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit
allowing my wife and I to buy our first home (using
a VA loan).

3. The cash for clunkers program, along with the
new car sales tax deduction, saved us over $5,500
on the purchase of a dependable, fuel-efficient, and
safe automobile. I am now saving over $66 per
month on fuel expenses. That's $792 annually no
longer going to countries that want to kill
Americans.

4. The tax credit for purchasing energy-efficient
furnaces gave us the opportunity to replace our 30-
year-old furnace (it died this past winter) with a 95
percent efficient model for the same price as an 80
percent efficient model.

5. The student loan reforms instituted that now
calculate monthly payments based on a percentage
of income above the poverty level and remove
predatory banks from the student loan business.

6. The stimulus funds that provided me with a new
job when I lost mine.

7. The credit card reforms that now require
companies to notify cardholders before increasing
interest rates allowing cardholders to opt-out of the
new rate and pay off their balance at the prior rate.

8. The changes in health insurance law that ensures
children with pre-existing medical conditions
cannot be denied insurance coverage. My family has
been lucky, but I know some wonderful families that
have been struggling to make ends meet due to
children being born with birth defects. No one
should ever go bankrupt because their child is sick.

9. Saving the American automobile industry. I
couldn't imagine not being able to ever again
purchase a new Chevy truck or a Jeep. Now that
General Motors is able to pay back the money
borrowed from the government and Chrysler has
been purchased by Fiat, I will still have a chance to
someday take my kids for a ride in a new Wrangler
or Silverado (hybrid Jeeps and trucks are on the
way).

10. The financial industry reforms passed by
Congress. Years of deregulation created the
opportunity for investment houses to run our
economy into a gigantic ditch. The new reforms will
go a long way toward keeping that from happening
again.

All told, my family has saved $15,000 in the past
year and will continue to save over $3,500 per year
as a result of these new policies. Additionally, we
are using less energy and sending less money
overseas. Once again, thank you President Obama.
Your policies have meant much more to my family
than any other president's in my lifetime.

Jeff Riggins lives in Springfield. His family includes
Sarah, Hailey, and Zoë Mae Riggins.

Great article! Thanks! :D

Yep ! and here's a letter mailed to Bush a while ago !

Thank you for making me feel bad, lied to and feeling like I lost part of my freedom.
Before your presidency, our country was love by many, like by almost everybody and respected by everyone on earth.

Not focusing in getting Ben Laden, have me made me paid with the life of my son in Iraq for your own personal feud with Sadam.

You have lied to the world about WMD and made everybody question all actions for decades, we as Americans will have to take and explain in order to preserve the futur of our kids. All the trust we had automatically from all our allies is almost all gone and we are now struggling with our own economy because of your actions with your buddies of Wall street.

Thank you for the best decade ever for America !

Florida "walks the walk" while federal administration & others just "talk the talk"!!

WHILE THE CURRENT FEDERAL ADMINISTRATION CONTINUES TO ONLY “TALK THE TALK”, THE STATE OF FLORIDA VOTED TO “WALK THE WALK” BEING THE FIRST STATE IN THE UNION TO REALLY SHOW IT CARES ABOUT SERVICEMEN RISKING THEIR LIVES OVERSEAS. VOTE PASSES BY A 77.81% MAJORITY. OF COURSE AFTER THE LAST STORY BY THE PRESS IN OCTOBER, THERE HAS BEEN ALMOST NO COVERAGE AT ALL

http://www.ballotpedia.org/wiki/ind...ead_Property_Tax_Exemption,_Amendment_2_(2010)

Florida Military Homestead Property Tax Exemption, Amendment 2 appeared on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot as an legislatively-referred constitutional amendment where it was approved. The proposal called for providing a homestead property tax exemption to members of the United States military or military reserves who received a homestead exemption and were deployed in the previous year on active duty outside the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii
(g) By general law and subject to the conditions specified therein, each person who receives a homestead exemption as provided in section 6 of this article; who was a member of the United States military or military reserves, the United States Coast Guard or its reserves, or the Florida National Guard; and who was deployed during the preceding calendar year on active duty outside the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii in support of military operations designated by the legislature shall receive an additional exemption equal to a percentage of the taxable value of his or her homestead property. The applicable percentage shall be calculated as the number of days during the preceding calendar year the person was deployed on active duty outside the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii in support of military operations designated by the legislature divided by the number of days in that year.

I.E. THE PEOPLE OF FLORIDA JUST CREATED AND APPROVED A MASSIVE TAX REDUCTION FOR MILLITARY PERSONNEL. HOW'S THAT FOR SOMETHING POSITIVE COMING OUT OF THIS MID-TERM!!

WHILE THE CURRENT FEDERAL ADMINISTRATION CONTINUES TO ONLY “TALK THE TALK”, ....

For all of the military member's and their spouse out there. We need to stop listening to party members that claim to be the party of the military. Look at what this administration has really done to you! Below are only a few examples of veterans benefits and pay cuts.

Bush Administration underfunded veterans' health care by $2 billion. The Bush Administration's 2004 budget underfunded veterans' health care by nearly $2 billion. ("Vets Health Low on Bush's Priority List," The Hill, September 17, 2003; "Support for Troops Questioned," Washington Post, June 17, 2003; U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs, September 2002)

Bush Administration budget cuts force more than 200,000 veterans to wait for health care. Over 200,000 United States veterans have to wait more than six months for a medical visit because of health care shortages. ("VA Health Care Funding Alert," Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Press Release, January 31, 2003)

The Bush Administration cut $1.5 billion for military family housing, despite Department of Defense statistics showing that in 83,000 barracks and 128,860 family housing units across the country are below standard. ("Nothing But Lip Service," Army Times, June 30, 2003; "House Appropriations Committee Approves $59.2 Million for Ft. Hood," U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards Press Release, June 17, 2003)

Bush Republicans support millionaires instead of military veterans. Bush allies in Congress stopped efforts to scale back the tax cut for the nation's millionaires by just five percent - a loss of just $4,780 for the year - in order to restore this funding for military family housing. ("The Tax Debate Nobody Hears About," Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

For all of the military member's and staff out there. Let's not continue to listen to political redoric from party members that claim they are the party of the military. Read the facts and see what they have done for you lately.

Bush Administration proposal would end health care benefits for 173,000 veterans. More than 173,000 veterans across the country would be cut off from health care because of Bush Administration proposed budget cuts and its plan requiring enrollment fees and higher out-of-pocket costs. ("Support for Troops Questioned," Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration cuts $172 million allotted for educating the children of military personnel. The Bush Administration's 2004 budget cut $172 million of impact aid funding. Impact aid funding assists school districts by making up for lost local tax revenue from tax-exempt property, such as military bases. These education cuts will especially affect school-age children of troops serving in Iraq who reside on military bases. ("Support for Troops Questioned," Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration tax cut denies military families increase in child tax credit. The families of 262,000 children of military personnel do not receive the child tax credit increase because the plan fails to cover taxpaying families with incomes between $10,500 and $26,625. According to The Washington Post, the House version of the Bush Administration plan "wouldn't help many of those serving in Iraq." One solider who will not benefit is Army Specialist Shoshana Johnson, the soldier and single mother who was wounded twice in the same convoy as Jessica Lynch. ("Ex-POW's Family Accuses Army of Double Standard on Benefit," Washington Post, October 24, 2003; "The New Senate Child Credit Legislation - What It Does and Does Not Do," Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, June 25, 2003; "Whose Child Is Left Behind," Children's Defense Fund, July 23, 2003

Bush Administration opposed plan to give National Guard and Reserve Members access to health insurance. Despite the war efforts of America's National Guard and Reserve Members, the Bush Administration announced in October 2003 its formal opposition to give the 1.2 million Guard and Reserve members the right to buy health care coverage through the Pentagon's health plan. One out of every five Guard members lacks health insurance. ("Bush Opposes Health Plan for National Guard," Gannett News Service, October 23, 2003)

And the list went on and on ! from those who claimed they were supporting the troops !
