Not much has changed, Habs still suck and will for a few more years and the Leafs are looking for a top 3 pick I hope and a great summer of retooling to fit RC's style. Again, Welcome Back

The Habs.....they're playing much better now, but it's once again a 1-line team: Desharnais, Pacioretty & Cole. I doubt Cole can have back-to-back seasons like the one he just had, but Pacioretty will continue to improve. I still don't really know what to make of the pint-sized Desharnais. But as long as Carey Price will be between the pipes, the team will challenge for the playoffs. I'm very curious who will be the head coach next season.

The Leafs.....a very promising season turned into a huge disappointment. Just over a month ago, they were in 6th place & things were looking very good until they played Winnipeg. Then, everything started going south. It all coincided with the demotion of prized prospect Nazem Kadri. Now, i'm well-aware that the Leafs have no chance to make the playoffs since they've totally lost their ability to score goals once all-star forward Joffrey Lupul went down to injury for the rest of the season. I'm actually hoping that they lose every remaining game in order to have a shot at Yakupov. I just learned that James Reimer will likely be between the pipes tonight & i yelled "great!"

Surprisingly, i've found myself cheering for the habs lately. I want them to win every game in the hope they'll get a weaker draft pick at the next amateur entry draft. Why i want them to win? There's no way in hell they'll make the playoffs & the more the Leafs sink in the standings, the better it'll be for them in the future. It will also put them in a better position to possibly trade for superstar Rick Nash.

And indeed, welcome back Rumples! It's good to have you back once again in the sports threads, where you belong. This is your home.

Go Habs Go!!! :D

Hmmm,

...I dont give a rats ass what anyone on the internet thinks of me...

Completely irrational on Burke and the Leafs, and obsessed with pissing on everyone else.

It was understandable to defend yourself from attacks, but constantly making pissing replying to yourself in two baseball threads where no one is bothering you is pitiable.

Sad to say, but i'm starting to wonder if Brian Burke hasn't lost it.

... i'm seriously starting to question his abilities to remain as a GM & i'm starting to understand his past firings better. !

Gentle, I wouldn't put Iggy2 (Doc) in the same category as the original in this case. One is recognizing the situation and the other is in extreme denial running away from it.

If your this upset with what Leafs fans have to say right now, i would hate to be in your shoes when we finally win a Cup!

I'd hate to be in your shoes when the Bruins win the Cup, and the Leafs still can't make the playoffs. Oh Yeah...that would be right now... :D :thumb:...not (enter 2 or 3 digit number) years in the future.

Iggy you stand alone against your Leafs fan partner, the Toronto sports writers, and everyone with the capacity to see facts. "Leafs fans" are not with you.

Cheers,

Merlot

I remember saying that (like any other fan rooting for their team) Habs fan were religiously and die-hard fans.
Yet with all the sh!t that happened since the stupid GM sent Halak who was loved by Habs fan and other stupid moves that sent other players away; players that Montreal kids likd very much... the atmosphere in Montreal is not like it used to be for decades.

And I do remember about being told ad nauseam (out here from 2 guys) how Leafs fan were the best of the entire world (since they were rooting for their team even though they didn't win the cup since ....)...

Yet... here is an article (in true fashion of Doc's 8000's posts) about how the relation between a team and their fans should be. (Oh ! and yes ! it is in the USA where, we Canadians we're laughing before on how it would be stupid to have a team where there is no ice, let alone almost no winter.

BY MICHAEL GARDNER - FAN FUEL BLOGGER

From a fan's perspective, the model NHL franchise may indeed be the Tampa Bay Lightning.

I have had the privilege of attending a few games in Tampa over the last few years. Each time, I walk away impressed with the level of customer focused service and sense of belonging that Lightning fans are treated to by their front office.

Thursday night, I attended the Leafs vs. Lightning game and if you've never been, you simply must go. Set aside the terrific Florida weather and let me walk you through a game day experience.

The first thing that you notice immediately are the number of jerseys. Leaf jerseys were plentiful of course, however, the Tampa fans didn't shy away as virtually everyone was sporting a jersey. It makes it easier when you get that free in your season ticket package.

The one thing I didn't notice? Suits.

The arena grounds itself is set up for service. Before and during the game a concierge style service area greets season ticket holders where they can review their ticket needs (for hockey and other events) with live staff. Stadium personnel dot the landscape answering any and all questions like whether I can take the 24oz beer that I just bought into the arena? The answer is yes.

I was amazed that season ticket holders were "swiping" their jerseys at kiosks. I found out that they were doing that because that FREE jersey that they get includes a micro-chip entitling them to 25 per cent off food and beverage and 35 per cent off merchandise.

Speaking of discounts, the Lightning have some of the lowest ticket prices in the league. Some may argue that they need to given the demand for hockey in the area. Fair point. However, it certainly makes it accessible. I took our family of five, we sat rows from the ice and it cost me half of what a pair of golds at the ACC would cost.

The food is great, though food at many Canadian rinks is pretty good too. I was just impressed with the options from the Outback Steakhouse to Smoked Brisket. There is certainly a lot of variety.

The game itself was what a hockey game should be. I sat behind a season ticket holder who had the name "GrandmaBeth" on the back of her jersey. When I wasn't hollering "Go Leafs Go," we chatted about Keith Aulie and Carter Ashton, two pieces in a trade at the deadline. GrandmaBeth was keeping a scorecard with goals, assists, penalties and the like. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, around us was into the game.

When it was over, there was a postgame party with $2 hotdogs and beverages, a free concert and a sense that you just got a glimpse of what a true community that rallies behind a team is all about.

Just imagine for a moment that the ACC was filled with the kinds of fans that took in that game in Tampa. Loud, proud and giving the team an edge.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this should be a good lesson to not only the Maple leafs who keep anoying every other team about how they are the greatest franchise, (greatest bullshit) and people like Habs GM who keep on changing players that people love to watch... while screwing up the team completely.

To all you "supposed expert" of the game we call Hockey... (our religion) you guys SUCK !!! big time !

Cuze even if Tampa is not up top... their fans can still be proud !

Hello Iggy,

Stick to arguing with everyone about escorts and politics, and doing silly polls...

This is all off-topic. I don't care about that, but since it's stood for 3 days...the Mod could indulge a few lines.

Calling escort and agency polls "silly" is criticizing the purpose of Merb. I've made both kinds supported over the last few years by hundreds of participating members with these polls also being supported, protected, promoted and placed in stickies for easy access by Mods 11 and 8 showing how they feel about the importance of them. The polls give everyone a starting point for researching the best choices, while also offering the extra credibility of being public so that anyone can look for help from members they believe in more.

None of these people were silly to support the purpose of this board...and you participated too.

Did Doc really say he was having doubts about the great Brain Burke...?
Doc Holliday? Of merb fame...?

Mr. Doc, did indeed, and not just once. I'm sure it was hard to do that, but with the Leafs position and the few games left, it's only rational, like Canadiens fans have been, and now I have no choice to be honest about the Bruins situation. I have no idea why anyone lacks the courage or rationale to face truth.

Too bad about the Leafs. After 4 years and hard promises their fans should have more to cheer about by now. Whatever Burke's real skills and talents are they haven't produced the fruit of being in the playoffs, and this year they will finish lower, not higher than last year. That cannot avoid creating doubts.

sadly,

Merlot

Actually, who got fired today was the Mickey and Minnie Show many of the finalists for the Hobey Baker Award have gone on to become very good NHL'ers as well as many of the winners. This is whats called a "free wallet" in terms of nothing to lose, only $ and the Leafs have the most of that so Great signing by Burke, now go get Schultz and the #2 overall and this will be a great step in the overall plan. :thumb:
Nop ! TO's got them !

Along Laurel and Hardy....
Nothing personal !

I couldn't resist :)

I think Gentle has just become the new yet old "cairo". (no offense JC, you have come a looooong way since your meltdown a few years back, and good to see.) Gentle, lets see if you can beat the record of 16 posts within 36 minutes from the first to the last post, all about hockey and all saying the same thing. Ready? Set? Go! If you beat the record, I hear some insatiable sexpot named "Lucy" is the prize for a night ......Oh "crap", bad visual again! :help:

Habs having their worst season... and Leaf's fan are counting on them (Habs) so that their miserable Leafs get better ?
Next year ?

So ... if Habs loose all their last games... Leafs will loose next year cuze they won't get their 2nd overall pick ?

So that's what Burke strategy was all along ?
I mean get in top position in November than screw up in March to get down in the gutter with the Habs in order to get their 2nd... bla bla bla ?

Wow I'm impressed !
It's not much but in this circumstance... it should be a good start for ya !

Trust me Gentle, it was wishful thinking having to rely on the Scabs, can you imagine next saturdays game at the Bell Centre if it means the difference between getting the 2nd and 3rd overall pick for either team? HAHA! Has there ever been a game with ZERO shots on goal?

C'mon Iggy !
Knock it off !

We all know that you're trying to save face with your 2nd, 3rd or zillionth draft pick !

Why don't you just admit that you were just punked by the LEAFS and that you will just wait and hope next year to see if they do better !
Be a man and take it !

We have enough of one baby out here !
