Jeter for MVP?, I'm calling it, he will be the second oldest player to lead the league in hits, quite the accomplishment, he also might lead the league in Batting Average.

No chance if the Yankees don't make the playoffs. There is also quite a shadow hovering over Jeter's head, considering people his age are not supposed to have the type of years he's having. HGH anyone?

Na, there would of been rumors by now. He is just the ultimate professional in every way. Dedicated to the game beyond belief.

Logic says that Derek Jeter is on something. If not, he's Roy Hobbs.

p.s. For the record, i'm not against steroids or HGH. You never will be able to get rid of them, and wannabe users will always come up with ways to trick the testers. If you want an equal playing field for everyone, get rid of drug-testing & allow everyone to use whatever they want to use in order to get an edge. Plus, HGH has its health benefits. It causes injuries to heal quicker, it makes you stronger & feel better, and it makes older people feel youthful. The best example is Sylvester Stallone, a long-time user of HGH.

Jeter is not as stupid as Melky Cabrera or Bartolo Colon. What he is doing to cheat Father Time has more to do with his brains than his physical condition. He is one of the smartest players ever in baseball history. He is smart in every facet of the game from baserunning to defensive positioning to putting the proper swings on proper pitches. I think Jeter never got the credit he probably deserved for being superior mentally to others on the field. It goes back to the flip play, who would even think to be where Jeter was on the play? Nobody. Honestly this was the best defensive play I ever saw in my life:

I agree with Beav. Jeter is not on steriods or HGH. He's playing well because he has skill.

Pettite Shines

5 innings of shutout ball by Andy Pettite against the BJs today. Andy was on a 75 pitch count and he reached it in 5 full innings.

The man simply knows how to pitch, and how to win. I can still remember his 2 strikeouts of Bryce Harper earlier this year, getting him to chase sweeping curveballs off the plate, because Pettite knew that is exacty what the aggressive rookie would do.

Just Andy being Andy today Beav. He makes the Yanks a totally different team the way he brings his "A" game and his professionalism to the team. He is the guy to calm the team and to get them ready for the push for #28. The Yanks basically just got 2 very good to great starting pitchers (Nova/Pettitte) at the most important time of year. Now if CC can get himself together in his final few starts and add in a reliable Kuroda and Hughes who has been steady as can be lately, this team is all the sudden set up with some great starting pitching heading into postseason. The only weakness I can possibly see on the pitching front is Joba, he still scares me when he comes in but in reality this is still april for him so hopefully in the next 2 weeks he can be back to being what he was last year before being shut down.

Good stuff :thumb:

Joba has been erratic. Has thrown very hard and some sharp sliders but it does not seem all there for him every outing. I think he will be OK. Only problem with the rotation right now is CC who has been something less than his usual reliable self. Everyone else looks good and with Gardner being activated and Teiexera said to be ready by Sept. 27, the Yankees could be full strength by the playoffs, of course excepting Rivera and Pineda.

That is simply, AWESOME NEWS!

Perfect timing and this upgrades the Yanks both offensively and defensively even more.... This team is getting stacked at the perfect time.

Activated yesterday, to be used as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. He will not swing the bat for another few weeks.

Iggy,

Rickey Romero is going for the Golden Sombrero tonight against the Yankees. He is 0-3 vs. the Yankees this year, and has the hat trick in hand. Another loss tonight makes for a very clean 0-4 Sombrero to wear on the trip back to Toronto.

Yep, not doing to badly so far tho, same for Phelps. David is gonna be a nice addition to the starting five next year, he reminds me so much of Mussina out there.

Romero has very good stuff but like many of the very talented young pitchers the Blue Jays have brought up in the past few years, he has not been properly developed. He needs to be traded to or signed by a team like the Yankees in order to realize his full potential. I look at him and he should be much better than he is. The BJs just do not develop pitchers mentally. They bring up a lot of guys with very good arms and they are all the same, they really don't know how to pitch and how to win. And they do not get better at the major league level.

Romero has totally had A-Rod's number tonight, however.

Phelps does remind one of Moose the way he pitches. He has more between his ears and a better idea of how to pitch than Romero.
