Amazing isn't it Doc, I think it's call "the law of averages" or something to that effect. Hardly a nostradamus like prophecy though. BTW, didn't the Leaf's lose AGAIN following another B2B game? Have they won the tail end of a B2B yet this year?

You're quite correct, he is indeed amazing at predictions. "We're not worthy! We're not worthy! We're not worthy!" LOL!!!!

As for last night's game, dominated by the Leafs, they tied the Devils & each team got a point for the tie. The Devils did score in the overtime period which was played to get the bonus point. Martin "Le Coquin" Brodeur played great (and was lucky at times) to keep his team in the game.

Last year we would of lost that game in regulation and not of gotten at least one point, i will take the point and look to fridays game. The Leafs now have 33 points and that is tied for 5th best in the entire NHL as of today, again, last year and several before that,we were not even close to that on this date and again, i will take it. Nice to see the progression, FINALLY.

Is it just me or are the Leafs starting to look awfully similar to the bruins? 2 solid goalies, a big tough defense, fast and skilled top 3 lines and a pretty good 4th line (note, boston has the best 4th line in all of hockey), guys who will drop the gloves when needed and guys who will lay out the big hit when you least expect it, solid coaching all around and great gm's. Thats what i like about Burke, he sees what works and quickly adapts. What a great playoff matchup this would be in April/May. Long ways to go to get there but the Leafs are on the right track. Like i said playing a better team so many times already has shown them just how good they can be against most other teams they have played so far. They are 15-6-3 against teams not named boston, pretty damn impressive by anyones standards.

Really??? for thinking we have a playoff team after all the great moves Burke has made to improve the team and build depth in the minors the last three seasons? Sorry, but it takes time when you have been depleted by previous management and finally the ship is going in the right direction and if you believe otherwise, you do not understand the game of hockey. ...

the leafs were forever re-building, decade after decade. it's nice to see some success from close to a half century of re-building. what i hope for now is an ability to piece together the famous incredible spring runs the leafs seem to get on in recent memory to this great start. december + january are gonna be critical months for the buds.

Chiarelli said Seguin, 19, has committed similar violations in the past.

“I don’t see it as a problem,” Chiarelli told the Globe. “I see it as a young player who sometimes forgets to set his alarm.”

Well, no loss is a good loss, but maybe a good lesson came out of it. Chiarelli was the one who got the Bruins motivated into an incredible epic run so rare in hockey, as well as a Stanley Cup of course, so I'll trust him to know how to handle a kid who may be achieving stardom too fast and needs a little slap down.

"Is it just me or are the Leafs starting to look awfully similar to the Bruins?"

So now the Bruins are the standard for the LeAFS? It's the gold standard, but if the Leafs were anything like the Bruins the Leafs might have actually been able to give the Bruins a challenge in 4 games where they got whipped each time.

Cheers,

Merlot

There was a discussion about the Seguin benching yesterday on a couple of sports talk shows. Everyone seemed to support Julien with the benching, saying that it's quite possible that Seguin had gained a swelled head due to his good start & needed to be shown that he's not bigger than the rest of the team. Julien also needed to show the youngster who the boss was.

Now Merlot....did you really have to capitalize three letters when you wrote Leafs? Isn't it time once & for all to put an end to those silly kindergarten games? Isn't it time for some of the board's veterans to show a bit of maturity & put an end to those childish games?

Why do your posts always have to be about the Bruins (and pointing out how good they are in order to irritate other hockey fans) & constantly mocking the Leafs or their fans? Isn't there anything else in regards to hockey that you could post about?

Just an observation....

Suspension could hurt Flyers blue line

(ESPN) As if the blue line for the Philadelphia Flyers wasn't already devastated by the loss of Chris Pronger and co. Held together by a combo of gummy veteran determination (Kimmo Timonen) and sticky youthful enthusiasm (Kevin Marshall and Marc-Andre Bourdon), the corps of defenseman may lose another body for a couple of games.

The Philadelphia Daily News' Frank Seravalli suggests Bourdon could be suspended for two games after allegedly hitting Nathan Gerbe of the Buffalo Sabres from behind on Wednesday.

If that's the case, one can only assume Matt Walker will be asked to fill-in for Bourdon. Beyond that, the Flyers seem to be out of obvious options.

Claude Giroux

Never really watched this guy play all that much until this season and does this guy have all the tools to be a superstar or what? Wow, Lightning fast, great hands and sees the ice as good as anyone in the game today. Why oh why do i have the feeling that now that he has Jagr as his teammate that his game will be elevated to a higher degree? Well, it already is as he is now the NHL's scoring leader. Claude Giroux: Next NHL Superstar? could very possibly be.

Hello boys............

Panthers ice Bruins & blank them 2-0

BOSTON -- Tomas Kopecky broke a scoreless tie with 2:32 left and Jose Theodore stopped 40 shots as the Florida Panthers beat the Boston Bruins 2-0 on Thursday night and sent Tim Thomas to his first loss in 11 games.

It was the second shutout of the season for Theodore.

Florida added an empty-netter with 42 seconds left, outracing the Bruins to a loose puck and backhanding it into the net to clinch it.

The Bruins dominated the scoring chances for most of the game, but Florida put pressure on Thomas in the last 5 minutes and then struck quickly when Thomas left a rebound in front of the net. Sean Bergenheim skated over the puck and missed, but Kopecky followed up and put it in.

The Bruins went all of November without losing a game in regulation, but they are 2-2 in December.

Cheers!

Hello everyone,

I will not bother to edit or remove any recent posts that contravene the spirit of the rules I have set as I believe they will serve as an example of what not to do. Just to make a little clarification for everyone: using caps to distort a team's, or any other, name into something else will not be tolerated. In the spirit of the holiday season I have only suspended Merlot for two weeks. In that same spirit, I have re-opened this thread. Do not make me regret it.

Habs acquire Tomas Kaberle

The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenseman Tomas Kaberle to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Jaroslav Spacek, a source told ESPN.com Friday.

Kaberle has two years, $8.5 million left on his contract; Spacek will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

The Hurricanes have been shopping Kaberle for at least a month, hoping to shed his big contract.

Pierre LeBrun covers the NHL for ESPN.com.

i actually think montreal made a great trade offloading an older dman for a younger one with similar if not better passing skills. of course we're losing some of space k's blocking abilities but he's been hurt anyway.

hope to see kaberle rejuv his career in a hockey town...

PS. crap, i'm getting my news from merb again. must be ramping up my hobbling again. lol

good move by rutherford in carolina shedding a potentially bad contract and freeing up cap space. perhaps kaberle will click on the montreal power play and with fellow country-man tomas plekanec.
oh wait, i hope montreal isn't pulling one of those bring in gomez then sign his buddy gionta deals ... that would mean the canadiens would bring back bryan mccabe... i hope not!

I agree for 2 reasons, and not just because i am a Leafs fan, but because Kaberle is not the same player as he once was and in fact in his first 27 games this season he had a total of 5 points. But the other reason i agree is that he still has 2 more seasons under contract at 4.25 per where as Spacek was coming off the books after this season.

Do you realise that the Canadiens have half of their salary cap (over 37 million) tied up between older with declining skill set, and or injury prone players until 2014? Gomez, Cammy, Gionta, Plekanec, Cole, Markov, and Kaberle. If those players were all under 30 and in their prime then that would not be a bad thing at all. They also need to lock up Price and Subban long term and thats not gonna come cheap, especially Price since he will be RFA at seasons end and will command a nice size raise in or around the 5 mil per range. Also the habs best dman and future captain candidate, Josh Georges is a UFA after this season and they MUST sign him long term as well.

If Kaberle can bring a lackluster powerplay back to life then maybe the canadiens can salvage this season, but from years of watching him in Toronto, he will drive you crazy by refusing to shoot when he has the perfect opportunity, not to mention like i said above, he is older and not the same player any longer. Now watch him go out and post 30 assists and 10 goals the rest of the season, lol.

I think the Habs made a big mistake here.

Actually, i think giving McCabe a cheap "rest of the season" deal would of been a better option than what they did.

To me a susperstar is someone who is a ppg player or better, and or someone who scores 40-50 goals consistently, as far as offensive players go. Giroux was on the cusp of superstardom last year and seems to be getting over the hump this season. Great young player.

thought giroux already was a superstar after last season's performance.

Leafs give up a hat trick to defenseman Dennis Wideman...YES, DENNIS WIDEMAN! WOW!!:lol::lol:

WASHINGTON -- Dennis Wideman scored three power-play goals and added an assist and the Washington Capitals beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 Friday night.
Wideman finished his first career hat trick and sealed the win with a shot from the point with 1:19 left in the game.
Washington got even for its worst loss of the season with a good performance on the power play, which had been a weakness during the Capitals' recent woes.
Washington was 4 for 6 on the power play against Toronto, after going 3 for 51 in the previous 14 games. It was the first time this season the Capitals have scored more than two power-play goals.
Nicklas Backstrom also scored and had two assists for Washington.
Phil Kessel and Cody Franson scored for the Maple Leafs, who defeated Washington 7-1 in Toronto the last time these teams met on Nov. 19.

Leaf's are now 2-2 in December :lol: On a side note, former NHL leading goal scorer and point leader Phil Kessel finally brought his horrific +/- to a positive 1 for the season!

Where I belong.

Not only that, but they've fallen behind Buffalo in the Defacto Standings, with 33 points in 29 games, or 1.137 PPG to Buffalo's 32 points in 28 games or 1.142 PPG. The Leafs are now effectively in 7th place in the conference. Washington at 1.107 isn't far back.

On a side note, former NHL leading goal scorer and point leader Phil Kessel finally brought his horrific +/- to a positive 1 for the season!
I'm not a serious hockey fan, K, so could you set me straight on something. Tyler Seguin has a +/- of plus 19. In the rest of the world, 19 is greater than 1. That's true for the hockey world, to, n'est pas?
