The FBI reportedly recovered 11 sets of classified documents during its Monday raid of former President Donald Trump's Florida mansion, per materials reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

Among the 11 sets were documents marked "top secret," as well as those meant to be available only in designated government facilities, the Journal notes.
The agents removed "around 20 boxes of items, binders of photos, a handwritten note, and the executive grant of clemency for [Trump] ally Roger Stone," the Journal writes, according to the inventory list.

The list also details how agents recovered four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents, and three sets of confidential documents, per the Journal.
It additionally alludes to another set marked "top secret/SCI," which CNN notes is the highest level of classification.

Per the search warrant, the FBI requested access to "the 45 office," as well as any and all rooms in which "boxes or documents could be stored, including all structures or buildings on the estate." Private guest rooms were excluded from the search.

Though Trump's lawyers have argued that the former president declassified the material in question before leaving office, there are federal regulations involved in doing so, the Journal summarizes.

The FBI raid sparked an immediate firestorm, in which supporters of the former president have lambasted the agency for what they feel was a politically-motivated attack.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday that the Justice Department had filed a motion to unseal the search warrant in the case.

This article describes who can and how to declassify a document.
Very smart one who can predict what will happen to all this.
The law and the constitution never imagined such an ignorant, dishonest and bad faith president (Dumb).
You never know if he is in bad faith or simply stupid. A bit of both I suppose.

Extract:
One key point is that presidential declassification power does not continue once a president is out of office.
"While it is true that the president can classify and declassify at will, the same is obviously not true of a former president, who ceases to be commander in chief as soon as he leaves office," Aftergood said in an Aug. 11 interview.
Could Trump argue that he declassified certain documents in private, while president? That is not how the system is designed to work.
"Merely proclaiming a document or group of documents declassified and doing nothing more would not suffice," Bradley Moss, a Washington, D.C.-based lawyer who works on national security cases, told PolitiFact.

Republicans in Congress who are relying on Donald Trump to excite voters in the fall elections are not only defending the former president against the FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago home but politically capitalizing on it with grave and potentially dangerous rhetoric against the nation’s justice system.

The party that once stood staunchly for law-and-order has dramatically reversed course, stirring up opposition to the FBI and tapping into political grievances and far-right conspiracies that fed the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

It’s all part of the GOP’s election year strategy to harness voter outrage over the unprecedented search, quickly and unequivocally set in motion as Trump hosted a dozen Republicans for dinner of steak and scallops at his private Bedminster club the day after the FBI action.

The story so far  :

1) There were no classified documents
2) And if they were, the FBI planted them!
3) But Trump declassified them, even if there weren't any
4) Regardless, all of them were returned earlier

I watched part of Jesse Watters' show on Fox News on Friday night. He cycled through parroting things Trump himself suggested like the documents were already declassified to all the FBI had to was ask for documents if they wanted them.

But in the real, non MAGA world the president doesn't unilaterally start and end the declassification process even though he has the sole power to begin the process (nuclear secrets can't be declassified, period is my understanding), plus the FBI had visited Florida to retrieve documents earlier in the year but went back with a search warrant because they discovered not all the documents had been turned over. But right there on America's most-watched "news" network was a show that couldn't even acquaint itself with the basic details of the story. Such disregard for the truth is part of the story of how the country got to this point of constant insanity and constantly giving the middle finger to reality.

On the same Fox News, another anchor aired a photoshopped picture of the Trump-appointed judge that authorized the search warrant in a suggestive position with Ghislane Maxwell (Jeffrey Epstein's fixer). Sean Hannity had the sense to say the pic wasn't real. The anchor in question corrected himself, but that was the next day and not on at the same on-air time slot but via tweet. If it took one look at the pic to know or suspect it's doctored, why air it at all? Stuff like that and how Republicans are now suddenly anti-law enforcement because the FBI went after their guy (to the point that one idiot has already gotten himself killed over going to an FBI field office with an AR-15 while ranting against the FBI online) makes you realize we're in another lower level of crazy (like in the lower levels of hell in The Inferno).

It's not realistic to expect millions or billions of people in a given country to share the same political outlook. But the stuff we've seen here in the US the last few years is Republican politics doubling down on sheer insanity. You can't see the Republican reaction to this search warrant and the calls to violence and think there is a bright, hopeful future for this country. And more than anything, when the shit finally hits the fan it will be tragic because we did it to ourselves.

Exactly ! For me, Trump, a few Republican senators and members of the house and stars of FoxNews want a civil war, nothing else.
Naturally, they will look at it confortably in their expensive and well protected homes !

T
his is very sad but very true

The same people that drill the message "it is your constitutional right to have an AR15 to organize a militia to fight against tyranny" are the ones projecting a false image of tyranny. How can this end well ?

It's at the point people don't believe in law enforcement and even worse the judiciary. Many politicians are scum, we can all agree on that but when you don't trust the justice system anymore, you're toast. Half the country doesn't trust the DOJ, the other half doesn't trust the supreme court. You're toast.

There was a poll on the biggest threat to America. People voted firearms, China, Russia. Wrong ! #1 threat to America is America. They have to get ride of the nutcakes at both extremes.

Your only hope is "the rock" :)

Court papers show that the FBI recovered documents labeled “top secret” from former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
The papers released Friday indicate the seized records include some that were marked top secret and also “sensitive compartmented information,” a special category meant to protect the nation’s most important secrets and those that if revealed publicly would harm U.S. interests.
The court records did not provide specific details about what information the documents might contain.
Trump backed the warrant’s “immediate” release, but contended the government could have had them any time by asking.
