I watched part of Jesse Watters' show on Fox News on Friday night. He cycled through parroting things Trump himself suggested like the documents were already declassified to all the FBI had to was ask for documents if they wanted them.
But in the real, non MAGA world the president doesn't unilaterally start and end the declassification process even though he has the sole power to begin the process (nuclear secrets can't be declassified, period is my understanding), plus the FBI had visited Florida to retrieve documents earlier in the year but went back with a search warrant because they discovered not all the documents had been turned over. But right there on America's most-watched "news" network was a show that couldn't even acquaint itself with the basic details of the story. Such disregard for the truth is part of the story of how the country got to this point of constant insanity and constantly giving the middle finger to reality.
On the same Fox News, another anchor aired a photoshopped picture of the Trump-appointed judge that authorized the search warrant in a suggestive position with Ghislane Maxwell (Jeffrey Epstein's fixer). Sean Hannity had the sense to say the pic wasn't real. The anchor in question corrected himself, but that was the next day and not on at the same on-air time slot but via tweet. If it took one look at the pic to know or suspect it's doctored, why air it at all? Stuff like that and how Republicans are now suddenly anti-law enforcement because the FBI went after their guy (to the point that one idiot has already gotten himself killed over going to an FBI field office with an AR-15 while ranting against the FBI online) makes you realize we're in another lower level of crazy (like in the lower levels of hell in The Inferno).
It's not realistic to expect millions or billions of people in a given country to share the same political outlook. But the stuff we've seen here in the US the last few years is Republican politics doubling down on sheer insanity. You can't see the Republican reaction to this search warrant and the calls to violence and think there is a bright, hopeful future for this country. And more than anything, when the shit finally hits the fan it will be tragic because we did it to ourselves.
