The debt problem is staggering. No wonder many senior citizens in the US are now working at Wal Mart. I suspect the same fate will await the thirty something generation. I provide the full link to the article below and remember if you're an SP, save your money. Actually, I should say the same for us clients:

Thirty & Broke
The real price of a college education today

Paige Nichols has a certain stoicism about her, which has helped her overcome disappointments big and small. She was born in Oklahoma City in 1975, a time of plenty for her family. Her father was prospering as a commodities trader, and he liked to spend his money. Paige would turn out to be the same way. But by the time she entered college in 1993, their financial situation had become, she says, considerably more "volatile." Her parents had been able to pay for the education of her two sisters, 11 and 13 years older than she, but told Paige they couldn't do the same for her.

She finished up at the University of Tulsa in 1997 with a business degree and $20,000 in student loans, which makes her, by official reckoning anyway, a typical graduate. She is now paying off her loans, $300 a month; at that rate it will take her until she's about 50. "Twenty thousand isn't even that much, but it feels hefty," she says. "I'm not making any headway."

If it wasnt for this damn hobby i would not be so broke, i dont have a damn penny to my name because of this industry, but at least i can say that i have had lots and lots of fun in my life and i have had sex with some of the most beautiful women in the world, i would not change my life for anything, you can lump me in with that group of senior citizens that will be working at Wal-Mart when i am old.:)

I may very well end up at Wal-Mart due to my obsession with lingerie and boots .
Why do you like boots? Do they not cover up a very nice part of you ??? When I get a girl wearing boots to dance for me I always ask her to take off the boots - I love a nicely-turned leg !

There ! I just saved you from Wal-Mart, Desiderata ! :)

Well, that paper shows the reality of lots of 30something people, but it doesn't bring much as solutions for them. It is like saying: "Dude, you're using too much red ink and you should cut off expenses.", but that's about it. I would prefered to see more solutions. Also, what they seem to forget is why students need to borrow money. If they don't do it, they won't go nowhere, no college, no good job, no house... It will continue to be a real pain in the ass as long no better solution will exist.

The problem is, at least in the US, colleges really overcharge. A 4 year degree at a state school 30 years ago was about $5,000 in total for ALL 4 years. At a private school, or even an Ivy league school, was $25,000.

Today, a public school may cost $15,000 a year or $60,000 total and private schools? forget about it. You are talking $35,000 to $40,000 or $150,000 for 4 years. And endowments at some of these schools are in the Billions. Why is tuition so much?

In 30 years, tuitions have gone up 1200 percent. I can remember that my mother bought a new GM standard car (Cutlass) in 1975 costing $6000. By the same standard an average GM no thrills car would cost $72,000.

I would love to be an independent auditor of one of the pretigious Ivy League schools and one state school. I think there is a deep black hole in higher education where the money goes.

Until big business decides that they need a larger pool of university graduates to fill positions, government will do nothing to change to present situation.

Okay...hijack alert. Let's stop this discussion here and let the thread go back to its original purpose.
