Just got turned away at the border above Plattsburgh for a dwai in 1999 ruining a perfectly planned weekend.I am not welcome in Canada until 2009 or I have to dig up the court record, police report and supply 3 letters of recommendation and drive to NY City to the Canadian Embassy. This is the first time since 1999 that I have been stopped.Any way around this? Can I go thru Vermont or a smaller crossing like Rouses Point or is my name flagged now? Not to insult my Canadian brothers but Montreal is known as the terrorist capital of North America.Does Customs and Immigration really need to waste their time keeping out middle aged tourists who had too much to drink one time in their lives.
Just drive across, there's parts in Quebec where they only have pilons on the border

Something I've heard of and this takes some time:

If you only have misdemeanor offenses and they were a considerable amount of time ago, get an attorney to have your record expunged.

If I understand it correctly, if the state or province approves (which may not be easy depending on the circumstances), then it would be like having a clean record again, as far as international travel. You might still have problems if you ever apply for jobs that require security clearances though.

Meanwhile , on a far less serious note, Canada turns back DUI offenders ( how did Paris Hilton get into TO this winter ?) while the US turns back Lyla Karina. :D

Little unknown secret is that miss Paris Hilton also has Canadian citizenship. Daddy made sure his spoiled girl has a few of these citizenships, including French and British. However the main difference betewee Paris and Lyla is that only one of them swallows.

The fines for undeclared crossings are high and there are other penalities.
Your chances of getting caught are real. They are not low.

How often have u done this or are you just being funny?

Here's a funnier one. Swim across the lake Ontario.

CNN did a story on this a few years ago, they showed how easy it was to cross the border.

They never got caught BTW

CNN did a story not long ago about the Angle Inlet area of Lake of the Woods at the confluence of the Manitoba, Ontario & Minnesota boundaries.
Here's a map

It's quite interesting to learn about this case. Although I've never been denied entry to Canada, I have always had my passport flagged and have had to be interrogated by Immigration officer at the border or at Trudeau airport because I apparently am on some sort of watchlist.

May I ask the reason why you're on a "watchlist"

There may only be pylons after the border guards etc, go home for the night, but there is surveillance and I believe that the locals on both sides are often quick to inform the authorities.

If you really need to get into QC from NY, try at Fort Covington, NY (on the west side of the river north of Fort Covington). I'm sure that the road is not got a customs booth (unfortunately the road is a dead end and you can't get anywhere else in QC from there). The same applies at St. Regis, QC where there are no customs stops etc when you approach from Hogansburg, NY

the record is not expunged. It is called a pardon, it is available from The National Parole Board, and you do not need a lawyer to complete the form unless you have difficulty following simple instructions in either official language.

You will have to have been un-arrested for anything for seven years after the completion of your sentence.
