Much to do about nothing.
This is like spitting into the ocean to make more water.
Totally useless and just waisted a ton of money and time, typical of politicians.
Will not do a thing to curb gun violence.

Tens of thousands of protesters have rallied across the US to call for stricter gun laws in the wake of two mass shootings.

Those taking part at the hundreds of marches carried slogans like "I want freedom from getting shot".

US President Joe Biden backed the protests, calling on Congress to "pass common sense gun safety legislation".

Despite this any attempt to change the law is likely to be blocked by Republicans.

Nineteen children and two adults were killed in the 24 May shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

That attack, and another days earlier in Buffalo, New York, in which 10 people were killed, has led to renewed calls for action on gun control in the US.

Yes, polls show that the majority of Americans demand real stricter measures.

As long as Republican politicians rely on NRA for their reelection, nothing will really change !
Nope, not just politicians or just Republicans, it is also Americans and their ingrain love of fire arms.
Dont tell me all those millions of guns out there are all owned by Republicans.
It needs a whole new generation with more sense and guts to put an end to this and some meaningful controls in place, what is being voted on now is a joke and will do absolutely nothing.

I wrote the Republican politicians, not all Republican partisans in USA.
Among the ten Republican senators that approve the proposed rules, 5 won't run for reelection and the other fives will run in 2024 or 2026.
I agree with you on the rest of your post.

What happened in Uvalde is all the reason why citizens should have the right to bear arms because your life is worth defending.

Guns are the great equalizer in homes as well as on the street, enabling those of smaller stature or strength to defend themselves against those who are bigger and stronger.

If you need any more proof at where the problem lies, here's some more. The price for a Republican negotiating bipartisan (and very, very incremental) legislation to control gun violence is being booed and labeled a "RINO."

This is coming off the heels of more quotidian gun violence, from churches to a kid's summer camp (no innocent person was hurt at the camp, thankfully).

Gun safety activist Fred Guttenberg reacts to the Senate advancing the most significant gun bill in decades.

It's a weak bill but it appears to be all we can get at the moment.

The US Senate has passed a gun control bill - the most significant firearms legislation in nearly 30 years.

It imposes tougher checks on young buyers and encourages states to remove guns from people considered a threat.

In a rare bipartisan breakthrough on gun control measures, 15 Republicans joined Democrats in the Senate to approve the bill.

It still needs the endorsement of the lower house before being signed into law by President Joe Biden.

A vote in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives is expected soon.

The president urged a quick vote "on this bipartisan bill" despite it falling far short of his demands. Gun control activists and most Democrats would also like to see far more stringent measures on gun control.

This is a big win and a very positive decision. We need this in Canada, it is a human right to defend yourself. US Supreme Court strikes down handgun law in New York limiting guns in public. Many other states will rewrite their laws.
