Actually there were 2 mass shootings in schools in Montreal, Dawson College and L’ecole Polytechnique.
Statistics on gun violence are traditionally manipulated to support the objective of the presenter. Many people would be surprised to know that the number of gun-related homicides reported actually includes suicides, hunting accidents, self-defense incidents, etc.
Technically factual but the majority associate homicide with criminal homicide only.
I currently live in Las Vegas and sadly I cannot support your ideals in current times. The poverty and crime that is currently the reality for so many combined with an influx of immigrants with criminal backgrounds and ties on top of the smuggling of weapons into the country has made much of this city questionable safety-wise for a single woman on her own.
If I was attacked I should not be restricted to the number of rounds I have to defend myself.
I also don’t want to spend all my live fire training time reloading magazines.
The stark reality is you cannot model the US based on Canada, while we have many similarities the differences are also too drastic. Additionally, whether you agree with it or not, the second amendment is unique to the US and offers some protection for the rights of the people to exercise choice regarding gun ownership.
I am well aware of the mass shootings in Montreal. There was one in the Quebec parliament by a soldier in 1984 with an army submachine gun.
The first two along with one in Quebec city caused the lost of some of my rights to posess or use a couple of my firearms.
If I lived in USA, I wouldn't always feel safe even if I carried a handgun with high capacity magazines.
It's better than nothing but not very useful against a crazy guy with an AR-15 wearing a bullet proof vest or even a guy with a weapon like yours wearing a bulletproof vest.
Like I wrote before, statistically, the more pistols and assault rifles mean much more deaths and wounds.
Also, irresponsible parents cause the death of their own and other children.
If it is not guns it will be knives. There are so many stabbings in Canada these days. 30 years ago people would get into a fist fight and that was it. Nowadays a knife is almost pulled out.

Point is the guns is not the issue, the people are. People kill people. This is to show there is a big problem with society. But remember crimes were at an all time high in the 70s. These things has its cycle. As for the 2nd amendment, whatever the justification every human being has a right to defend themselves, it is a human right. Even if you do not feel safe like you pointed out in this post, it still way better to have some defense vs nothing at all and sitting like a sitting duck.

A technical problem happened I think.
A First Nation Cree killed 11 persons and injured 17 on Sept 4 2022 in Saskatchewan with a knife.
Recently in Montreal, almost all murders and woundings have been made with knives too.
Domestic murders are too all done with knives.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic here. Having said that, banning knives would be a logistics failure. Knives are used as tools. How can you ban kitchen knives? What about machetes? A machete is an agricultural tool. Certain types of knives are not legal like automatic knifes of more then two inches and butterfly knives. But these weapons are so easy to conceal, I doubt bans will have much effect. Nutcases will find some way to kill whether it be a gun, a knife, or a car.
Evidently I was sarcastic. Like I wrote sometimes ago, knives are used in more murders and woundings in Canada since a long time.
Trudeau has been fighting law abiding citizens possessing legal firearms since he has been elected in 2015. With what results ? Illegal owners don't obey rules and more and more are building firearms with 3D printers and importing parts by mail.
Knives are more and more used in Montreal for murders of all kinds, more than firearms. Mostly in domestic violence.
Because the left are politicizing it. It was never about results, it was about getting votes.
