This is a non issue now but what irrates me the most are certain members who are the exact opposites to me on the political spectrum, I use facts to debate but when they cannot debate anymore they start to insult. During covid the same three members using laugh emojis, I sometimes had over 10 notifications of laugh emojis by the same member. Seems some cannot handle others who got a different political view then themselves and should use facts to debate their point rather then insult.
I'm not sure from the context whether you mean this board, a politics board, or the politics thread. On either a political board or the politics thread then it's almost a given in this day and age that things are going to be polarized, and not everyone is going to have an intelligent discussion. I've never run into a board yet where everyone is rational and intelligent, and I honestly don't see any way around it. As far as the monger section goes I don't think there should be any politics at all. It's going to be a bad, sad day when sex becomes political.

In this context I was talking about on this board. Because it was the same 3 members patting each other on the backs with several Trump threads then anyone criticizing the Liberals they would attack, the worst was using laugh emojis. But is a non issue now, Purplem aka Joelcairo got banned permanently. But attacking as you said happens on social media a lot, you are right. Government covid mandates created a lot of polarization. I agree with you that a monger board should not have any politics at all. During covid we had the same member spreading Liberal propaganda all day but almost never posted a review. The whole point of this board are the reviews and of course the advertisers.

I didn't say there was no place for it here. There is a politics section, and that's a very appropriate place for people to go and argue their agenda as much as they like. I don't mind that. I don't like for politics to make its way out into the regular monger areas, even and including the lounge. I mean, that's what the politics section is for. Or other politics boards. whatever. This is a monger board and some people (like me) enjoy coming here precisely to get away form the continuous non-stop political onslaught that comes from the general media. I say this as someone who enjoys political discussion and who keeps abreast of of politics and current events. I'm perfectly happy to see it and to have people be engaged in political discussion, but like I said I think the monger stuff should be apolitical. Even so, lots of political commentary makes its way into other non-political threads where to my mind it has no real place.

For me it's the people who want others to display empathy when we are doing a review. The nature of doing a review is reducing the interaction and person to a business transaction and dare I say object?

The only thing I care about when doing reviews are the guys who read the reviews. So they know if it is worth it or not.

Absolutely. Some people would have you trumpet the positives and downplay the negatives. You don't have to be mean, but you should be complete and you should be honest. If it was either a good or a bad experience then you should say so. I think maybe some other people mean that you shouldn't make nasty personal comments, and that's probably true, but the purpose of this board is to keep the rest of the membership as well informed as possible in order to help them make good decisions, and that means including the bad stuff. With costs being what they are these days it's especially important because avoidable bad decisions can have such large consequences financially.

If I buy a set of tires and they are garbage, I will say they are. If I feel the shop were incompetent I will also say it. I don't feel sorry for "sounding mean". I am more concerned about the next guy not about the provider.

On a side note, if this activity can have a negative impact on your finances, I would advise not to play.

That's not what I meant by sounding mean. As I said, you should fully describe a negative experience. "She was incompetent, her service was bad because (fill in the blank) and she didn't deliver what she promised, as well as having a bad attitude, and so I can't recommend her" is different than she saying "she was a nasty, foul-smelling skank and a total bitch on top of that, so avoid this cow" . The first is a negative review, the latter is a mean personal attack. The first offers information, the second is just name calling. I want all the negative stuff (and I do want all the negatives) to be delivered as useful, useable information, rather than vitriolic name calling, so as to help in decision-making. That's the distinction I was making.

I forgot to mention something that irks me on this forum:

how people always feel the need to be right and can never let go. Theres’s no active listening.
Some members can’t handle disagreement, so the second a thread gets locked, they go cry and play the victim in the “ask us anything” or “what’s on your mind” thread to keep bitching about people when the argument is over. (Little girls in high school act this way just FYI).

They live off constant validation and attention (especially from SPs) just to soothe their bruised egos and coddle their hurt wittle feewings. Imagine being a grown-ass adult who needs internet babysitting and cheerleading in random threads that have nothing to do with “asking SPs anything.”

it’s always the same members here who are chronically online chatting back and forth with SPs for free
^^ then this cycle commences.

Around the corner
I don’t put people on the ignore list they can say what ever shit they want I have a thick skin and don’t really give a crap.
That is one of the perks of getting old lol you simply don’t give a fuck what other people think and get comfortable with who you are and the life you led, it is too late to change anyway and why would you if it has worked for you all your life.
