Saw Arnold's new flick. What an embarrassment for all concerned. Entertaining, but borderline to a B Flick.

The Whistleblower (2010)

A drama based on the experiences of Kathryn Bolkovac, a Nebraska cop who served as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia and outed the U.N. for covering up a sex scandal.

From Wikipedia:

Kathryn Bolkovac (Rachel Weisz) is a police officer from Lincoln, Nebraska who accepts an offer to work with the U.N. International Police in post-war Bosnia at a U.K. company called Democra Security (a pseudonym for DynCorp International[5]). Upon fighting for the trial for a Muslim woman suffering from domestic abuse and succeeding, Kathryn is made head of the department of gender affairs. She becomes involved in the case of a young Ukrainian woman named Raya, who had recently been sold by her aunt's husband to a sex trafficking ring. She escapes and Kathryn sends her to a women's shelter specifically set up for the victims of sexual slavery. Through Raya's case, Kathryn is able to uncover a wide-scale sexual slavery and human-trafficking ring that various international personnel, including that of the U.S., have participated in. Furthermore, when she brings the scandal to the attention of the U.N., she discovers that they have covered it up in order to protect lucrative defense and security contracts. Kathryn finds allies in Madeleine Rees (Vanessa Redgrave) and Peter Ward (David Strathairn), authority figures who support her investigation.

I've just finished watching the movie. I liked it very much, even though the theme of the story was rather dark. I couldn't stop watching it until the end. It was quite an eye-opener. I've also just decided i'll never visit Europe (to hobby), where i suspect many sex clubs in places like Germany (among other countries) and the Czech Republic are provided with women caught up in the sex trafficking trade & used as sex slaves.

Latest Fast & Furious was good, but not as good as #5. #5 was all that and a bag of chips.

Man of Steel was very good. A much better effort than past versions. The managed to stay away from being campy, but the motif was a bit dark. Amy Adams is a great Lana/Lois Lane with a much more realistic portrayal. But the film really doesn't take advantage of the romantic perspective. The new suit is a great effort. The Patriotic tilt was merely an afterthought. All in all pretty good and a much better effort than past attempts. Four Stars for sure.

Next on deck "World War Z"

This Is the End

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1245492/

Written by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldburg. The same cast of charactors from Superbad, Pinapple Express and Knocked Up, including James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robertson, Danny McBride, and Jay Baruchel with cameos from Micheal Cera, McLovin, Emma Watson and Rihanna.

The entire cast plays themselves at a Hollywood party when the Apocalypse happens. I really think there was a lot of improv and it was really fun. Go see it.

A couple I have on Netflix that were interesting offbeat films:

Drive (2011) - Stylish and unusual gangster/crime drama starring Ryan Gosling as an auto mechanic who moonlights in 2 different part time endeavors: as a getaway driver for criminals, and in a "straight" job performing dangerous car stunts for movies. This is a movie that I thought I had figured out halfway through, but then the movie changed gears and went in a completely different direction that I was not at all expecting, to be honest. Something of an arty type film like 7 Psychopaths, but this one is not a black comedy. Very good acting by a strong cast of character actors. Albert Brooks as a gangster with charisma and a touch of class is a definite highlight of the cast. Grade: A-

Entrance (2012) - This has to be one of the creepiest films I have seen in a long time, and the manner in which it was filmed made it somewhat unnerving along the lines of Blair Witch Project. It really takes a while to grab you, and you have to be somewhat patient, but it sort of slowly unsettles you and you are compelled to see how things turn out for the girl. The film focuses on an attractive young woman working as a barista in LA, who is seemingly unhappy with her life in the city. It follows her through her mundane daily routine and rituals, and as the story unfolds, the viewer begins to suspect that the woman is either deeply disturbed and paranoid, or else someone is stalking her. The climactic scene of the film, which gives you the answer, is shocking, disturbing and unforgettable. The movie kind of has a B movie/low budget horror film feel to it. Grade: B+, primarily because the film thoroughly unnerved me and I thought that the filmmakers did an extremely effective job in doing that.

World War Z: Interesting blend of horror, drama, political statement film. Great special effects that beg for 3D and delivers. The end of the story was somewhat anti-climatic as though they ran out of time to give it a proper ending. Brad Pitt was good, but no surprise there. The Political Statement was unmistakable in calling for a strengthened world order & cooperation. They might of sold me on it but instead the UN tried to "sell out" Pitt's family towards the end. I'd love to see the outtakes on this thing as the plot left a few "loose strings" outstanding. An example was one character that had no apparent use in the story line. Literally if you took the character out it would not take a thing away from the flick. All in all, a good film not a great one. See it in 3D or wait for the video. If you have to see it on a normal big screen wait for the video.

Shame (2011)
Starring Michael Fassbender. It's about the life of a sex addict who uses internet porn and escorts beyond control and faces intimacy issues in real life. Interesting movie. Felt very close to what I've been going through haha

Last week i watched "Unstoppable" and last night it was "Safe House". Both movies starred Denzel Washington. I loved both movies, especially "Unstoppable", probably because of the recent "Lac-Megantic" events. For those who haven't seen this movie, it's about a runaway train.

Has Denzel Washington ever appear in a bad movie?? Over the years, i've loved every single movie and remake he's been in.

Prometheus est l'un des meilleurs films que j'ai vu depuis quelques années.

The scene where the lady who is pregnant with an alien baby gives herself an emergency C-section is an all time classic scene in the history of science fiction films.

Regarding "Safe House", I liked that movie as well.

One I saw recently which was a very good albeit bleak film was "Winter's Bone." It's about a girl played by Jennifer Lawrence trying to support her young brother and sister after her mother goes insane and her father, a meth manufacturer, goes on the lam. Both Lawrence and John Hawkes, as her unstable, meth addicted Uncle, deliver outstanding performances.

Any movie starring Jennifer Lawrence has to be a very good movie. She has the knack to turn a so-so movie into a good movie just by her performance alone!

Winter's Bone is now available on Netflix & it's on my 'to watch' list.

I don't think so, I loved his performance in Man On Fire .
Man on Fire is based on a series of fiction books by A. J Quinnell. The book takes place in Italy where the kidnapping ring is run by a mafia.

I also loved 'Man on Fire'. But wasn't the story set in Brazil?

Another (of many) favorite movie starring Denzel is "Deja Vu". Even though he's been nominated several times in the past for best actor roles, Denzel Washington remains one of the most underrated actors in show business.

I first saw him in the tv series "St-Elsewhere", which also featured Howie Mandel.

Denzel Washington, throughout his career, has chosen not to associate himself with half-assed directors and half assed projects. He is now at a point in his career, having achieved success, where he gets to choose what projects he does, and he chooses well.

I did not yet rent "Unstoppable" but it's in my queue.

Doc, "Winter's Bone" is a well done film, but it is somewhat bleak and most of the male characters in the movie are very bad human beings, although Hawkes manages to humanize the meth addicted uncle. I think the movie was made by a woman. There are a few very rough scenes to watch. Lawrence also gets severely beaten by a few of the female characters. The movie takes place in the Ozarks in Missouri.

Denzel Washington's next movie is "2 Gunes". It co-stars Mark Wahlberg and they portray a DEA agent & a Naval intelligence officer who investigate one another, only to find out that they've been set-up by the mob, of which both were suspicious of one another for stealing money from. Sounds like another very good movie!

Right now, he's filming "The Equalizer", based on the popular tv series of the 80's. He'll have the 'Robert McCall' role, which was played by the late british actor Robert Woodward on the old tv series. The Equalizer was one of my favorite tv series at the time, along with Mike Hammer (played by Stacy Keech). I think Washington will be great in that role & it i predict it will be one of 2014's top-grossing movies.

Denzel Washington is my favorite American actor. I first noticed him in movie "Philadelphia", I still go back and watch that movie once in a while. He has such charisma. I liked Dejà Vu the first time I watched it. I stopped in the middle, when I tried to watch it a second time. "Unstoppable" and "Safe House" are good movies as well. His role in "Flight" was different, playing the role of an alcooholic no charisma there, until the last 2 minutes of the movie.

I watched "The Heat" recently, starring Sandra Bulloch. An entertaining movie, if you are looking for something to relax and have some laughs.

The late director Tony Scott (brother of Ridley Scott) directed some of Denzel Washington's top movies, which inluded "Crimson Tide", "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3", "Man on Fire", "Deja Vu" and his very last movie, "Unstoppable".

Scott committed suicide in 2012 by jumping off a bridge near Los Angeles. Even though he left suicide notes, no one really knows why he chose to kill himself. Other notable films he directed were "Top Gun", "Beverly Hills Cop II", "Days of Thunder", "Ennemy of the State" and "Spy Game".
