Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely check it out. The last foreign film I watched that really impressed me was Incendies. It's funny because despite winning best foreign film of 2011, it's actually a canadian film. Highly recommended.

Later today a friend and I are going to see the horror film, "You're Next", which was just released in the USA. Anyone see it yet?

This is an above average film in the slasher genre of horror movies (think Halloween or Friday the 13th), albeit with a different twist. It's worth seeing. A complete bloodbath.
That being said, and although I realize poor decision making by panic-stricken victims is an essential component of any slasher film, this film features the single most idiotic decision I have ever seen made in any scene in any horror film, ever. I am not spoiling anything because when you see the film, you will know when this unthinkably moronic decision is made.

Personally i just watched Kick Ass 2 in theater, i was a bit late but im glad i watched it before it was done there, loved the first one and loved this one(even if i think the first one was a bit better)
I wish they would had show more Hit Girl, she is awesome, but The Motherfucker was amazing

I have a knack for old surrealist movies such as Jean Cocteau's Le sang d'un poète (1930) and especially - my favorite one -Buñuel's An Andalusian Dog (1929).
I watched both of them yesterday night. The symbolism (with Freudian overtones) in Buñuel's movie is so strong.

Not a very recent movie but I first saw it a couple of weeks ago. A history of Violence with Viggo Mortensen, far better than I expected.
Cocteau's La Belle et La Bête is stunning in every possible way. I watch it at least once a year. Others I watch at least once a year are Casablanca and On the Waterfront.

Horror Galore
Recently saw 2 more horror films from Netflix, one I liked, one I hated.
The one I hated was "Cabin In The Woods." It is not really a true horror film, but a satire of horror films and reality TV. Although there is an interesting idea behind the movie, the movie is dumb, and not scary at all. If a horror film is not scary, it's worthless as a horror film.
On the other hand, I thought "The Strangers" was one of the scariest films I have ever seen. What this movie lacks in plot and character development, it more than makes up in the development of horror and dread. The film features some of the best sound effects ever used to create horror. The movie is about a young couple terrorized by 3 masked figures in an isolated country home. It is not really clear what is going on until the end of the film. The actual execution and creation of the horror is what makes this movie. I noted some elements from the original Halloween film, and I think the movie may have been slightly a homage to that film.

I did not find the movie funny actially. I had the impression that this was a pale remake of Robin Williams' RV movie (that I found hilarious). Though, I have to agree on J. Antinson's hot dance scene.

No, but I was planning to watch it. I'll write a review if I do. It seems to be another movie about a guy who has an addiction problem, so it doesn't look very entertaining, but probably still worth watching.
I watched Teeth on Netflix, a cult horror movie verging on comedy about a girl with a toothed vagina. It's entertaining and worth a look.

GRAVITY- See it in IMAX 3D. Basic Survival Plot with undercurrents of personal tragedy. Outstanding film that is sure to get Sandra Bullock an Oscar. Don't wait for the small screen as the effects will be wasted. Actually saw it first in plain 3D and then went back for the IMAX 3D as a "treat" for the eyes. Definitely belongs on the big screen.

Speaking of survival films, I just saw Buried on DVD last night. For a movie that is entirely filmed inside a small wooden coffin, I thought this movie was pretty good. It held my interest. It is about a civilian contractor/truck driver in Iraq who is kidnapped and buried in a coffin in the middle of the desert by Iraqi kidnappers, who demand a ransom. All that he has with him in the coffin is a lighter, a cellphone, a pencil, and a small canteen of water. It is a tough movie to watch from the standpoint of claustrophobia, and it will unnerve you, if you were ever worried about getting buried alive in a coffin.
I would recommend, unless the premise is too unnerving for you.

Oblivion
Futuristic sci-fi movie starring Tom Cruise. Brilliantly well done. Very good performances across the board, including the direction. I've already watched it twice. :thumb:
