Revolutionary road.

I just LOVED that movie. Both Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio are absolutely amazing.

JJ Abrams, who produced what i consider to be the best tv series ever...LOST...really created a masterpiece with this movie version of STAR TREK. I rate it a 5 out of 5 stars. It's that good!

Hello Doc,

I have to agree that as an action/adventure/sci-fi film Star Trek is a completely riveting movie with nearly endless action that matches anything else ever made. Most "fascinating" ;) was the way the key characters were introduced and assembled, often through very surprising paths, especially with the Captain Kirk character. There are extreme turns in the plot that will shock and probably disorient fans of the original Star Trek series used to certain standard perceptions and iconic story lines. But these surprises are what creates the tension and drama. I'd recommend this film to everyone who loves the genre, and those familiar with the original series will leave with their head buzzing from the excitement.

Wheeeew,

I haven't made it to Startrek yet but I did sit through what I thought was just about the worst 2 and a half hours of garbage since Ishtar when a gf dragged me to Transformers 2 on the weekend. Stay away...far away!

Trying to beat the heat...

Thought we'd beat the heat tonight by catching District 9 or Julia and Julia or, not my choice but what the hell..., Time Traveler's Wife. But not a chance!!! Went to three theater complexes and everything was sold out! So I dropped the girls off and came home alone to my sweatbox of an apt. :(

So has anyone seen District 9 yet? I really want to catch that one but may have to see it alone as none of my lady friends are interested.

I did watch State of Play this past weekend, starring Russel Crowe, and I thought it was excellent. It won't win any awards but it is a great thriller, and kept me guessing to the end which is a great achievement. Recommended.

The Hurt Locker; don't think I have seen anything that good since No Country for Old Men.

R

Just checked it out on IMDB and it has an 8/10 rating. Looks interesting, downloading now and will probably watch tomorrow evening, Thanks for the tip!

Oh yeah...I also watched the Hangover on the weekend and thought it was a fun movie. I honestly expected more from the rave reviews I've read but it was well worth the time.

Rotten tomatoes usually is a good indicator and the critics were positive at 88%.

A friend of mine also heard that this movie is a must see at the theater because of the visual aspect.

Romantic Comedies

I have been going more and more to the movies recently. I went to see OSS 117 last week. A french comedy which was very popular in France. I had some good laughs with other strangers in the dark. Thought, DuJardin was rehashing the racist cliches and I seriously doubt that an OSS 117 3 would be a success.

Prior to OSS 117, I went to see The proposition, with Sandra Bullock. A nice romantic comedy, though very predictable. It had the merit that Sandra was playing in it and that was enough for me to go and watch it.

I am more and more into romantic comedies these days and have been buying a lot of romantic comedy DVDs. I have watched "There is something about Mary" which I still find hilarious, "Here comes Polly" which was OK, and "My Big Greek Fat Wedding" which I found boring (it was much funnier when I watched it for the first time).

State of Play...

While checking out the reviews of this film on IMDB, I discovered that it is based on a BBC miniseries from 2003. It wook me a while but I was able to find it and despite it's 6 hour length, I couldn't stop watching it and went through it in one sitting last night. While the movie is very good and well worth watching, due to it's length the mini-series is much more detailed and in depth with excellent performances by all the actors involved. There are also enough differences in the story to keep things interesting even if you've seen the movie.

I definitely recommend it for anyone who has seen and enjoyed the movie version. If you haven't seen the movie, I would suggest watching the mini-series first if you can find it. It's available on Demonoid if you happen to have a membership there.

I loved that movie. I was a bit reluctant to rent it at first but I'm really glad I did anyway.

It's funny how one thing leads to another sometime... After watching it, I kept thinking of my own choice to stay in the closet as an SP...

Inglourious Basterds,
QTs best after Pulp and Dogs

best adult big movie of the summer which probably isnt saying much
excellent long drawnout scenes with typical great Tarantino dialogue
there is one 5 seconds long sex scene that is pretty funny
