My understanding is that part of a Jedi and sith’s Training is to be able to make their own light saber, not 100% sure though.

I saw a 2018 horror movie last night on Hulu which preceded, and is very similar to, the film "The Silence" on Netflix which I reviewed above. It is called "A Quiet Place." This film stars, and is written and directed by, John Krasinki of "The Office" and "Jack Ryan" TV Series, , who is married in real life to his co-star Emily Blunt. They play the parents of 3 young children who live a nomadic existence in a post-Apocalyptic world that is terrorized by monsters, similar to the bird like creatures in "The Silence", who are blind and attack their prey based on hearing them. Hence the name of the movie. The biggest difference between the 2 movies is that the monsters in "A Quiet Place" are creatures that walk on 2 legs and do not fly, and appear capable of running at speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour to chase their targeted prey. The movie does not make clear if these monsters are extraterrestrial, however, since they do not look like anything of this Earth and vaguely resemble a smaller 2 legged version of the "Alien" in the movie Alien, it is safe to presume that these creatures are alien in origin.
If the creatures detect any conversation or noise, they are activated to attack the source at very high speeds, and their prey is then devoured before there is even a millisecond to react to them. Defending against such attacks by large and agile monsters moving at such high speeds is impossible. Hence the characters in the movie, who survive, do so by shutting up and staying quiet, and communicating with hand signals, so as not to invite an attack.
There is a great scene in which Emily Blunt flees a monster that has gotten into her house and does not know where she is, as it cannot see her, but senses her because of noises within the house. Emily's character's instinct is to run down a staircase into a cellar that has special rooms designed to muffle sounds, but in running down the staircase, she steps on a nail that protrudes up by around 3 inches, and it penetrates her bare foot to the other side. Not only must she refrain from screaming, lest she alert the blind monster to her precise location, but she must dislodge the impaled foot from the nail. And we all know that this is going to be even more painful than being impaled (I once had a coworker do this myself after stepping on a nail sticking out of a 2 by 4 in a dumpster I had been asked to go in while working a construction job in college, and it was excruciatingly painful)). Blunt's acting in this scene is quite compelling and it is one of the more intense scenes in the movie.
Also ratcheting up the drama is that Blunt's character is pregnant and soon to give birth. We all know there is nothing noisier than a newborn baby, and they can't be shut up, so it is interesting and amusing to see what steps the characters in the film take to address this situation and keep the baby quiet once it is born.
I would rate this movie as slightly better than "The Silence." What I liked most about it is that the Krasinki character is motivated by a desire to determine the weakness of these monsters, and by the end of the movie, a weakness is in fact determined. This sets up the movie nicely for the sequel, which Krasinki expects to release in 2021.

The movie The Outpost is a true story based on the book by the same name. It is about a tactically indefensible outpost in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan. The outpost of 57 men is overrun by 500 Taliban circa 2011.
This battle is the first time in 50 years where two survivors were awarded the Medal of Honor (MOH). I read the book Red Platoon by one of these survivors, MOH winner Clinton Romesha, and this book follows the story very close to what I remembered from that book.
A unique feature of the film is that 3 actors served on the base. One actor, SPC Rodriguez, plays himself. Great flick. I’ve watched it twice on Netflix already. It was acclaimed by the critics and more importantly, the veterans.

Is this movie on a streaming service? It seems like it was just in theaters 2 months ago. You do not identify where you saw it.
Tapper really wrote the book on which that film was based? I heard that Chris Cuomo challenged Tapper to an arm wrestling match after the below video broadcast in July, in the kitchen at the CNN news room, and Tapper not only won, but slammed Cuomo's arm into a cup of hot coffee that Cuomo had not moved.

A movie critic called it "James Bond on acid " and I could not agree more.
Palindrome theme movie which you could start watching from end to beginning and it would still make sense..
For those like me who thought Memento or even Inception were puzzling enough, well, Christopher Nolan has the last laugh!!
I watched it on IMAX at ScotiaBank, a week prior to the movie theatres's shutdown..

I didn’t put 2 and 2 together on Jake Tapper, the author of The Outpost. I hadn’t read his book. I read the one by SSGT Romesha called Red Platoon in 2017 but from what I remembered, the events were pretty much as depicted in Red Platoon. I don’t remember Captain Broward that the men called Broward the Coward. He was the third CO that you meet in the movie after the first two perished. Broward did previous deployments in Iraq and appeared battle fatigued. I wanted to frag the SOB myself. Other than that, I remembered most of the events like the men trapped in the armored vehicle and SSGT Romesha leading an effort to take back their camp and the Afghan soldiers running at the sight of the Taliban, etc.
Supposedly, Hollywood also plans to release a movie based on Red Platoon. I hope it’s as good as this one.
Incidentally, I plan to read Tapper’s version. There is another book about that war called Outlaw Platoon by Sean Parnell, a platoon leader in Afghanistan, that I liked just as much as Red Platoon. When you read that one you will be repeating WTF to yourself over and over. It is about a different operation but I couldn’t believe it. With all the high tech weapons it came down to hand to hand combat! I know that the Army Officer corps was passing that one around. It is highly recommended.

Has anyone seen any good movies lately? The last few Netflix movies have gotten terrible reviews. Most of the big box-office super - hero movies tend to be repetitive that just rehash old themes.
I'll give a recommendation to "Last Night In Soho" with the wonderful Anya Taylor- Joy(Also excellent in Peaky Blinders and the Queen's Gambit TV shows.) An innocent naive modern girl from a small English town has a passion for 60's London fashion and music. She gets accepted into a fashion school in London. but soon starts experiences life in the 60's through nightly ghostly visits via Taylor-Joy's character. At first she is ecstatic, but her experiences soon turn sinister.
There is so much more to this film than just a standard horror film. Stand-out cinematography and use of 60's music that comments on the action. For instance - the movie opens with "A World Without Love" (a song that Lennon would not let the Beatles record because he thought it was too sappy) but fits the emotions of the young nave girl at the start so perfectly. Two versions of "Downtown" - one fast and upbeat; the other downbeat suggesting something more threatening . "You're My World" with the shrieking violins that recall the music from the slasher shower scene in "Psycho".
Includes wonderful performances from 60's icons - Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, and the James Bond golden girl Margaret Nolan.

I rented this movie yesterday for 99 cents from the Apple Store & found it very entertaining. I love most of his movies. His movies are similar to Liam Neeson’s, one of my favourites.

I saw Nope in theaters last weekend. Although parts of it were interesting, those expecting Jordan Peele to match the success he had with Get Out are likely to be disappointed. The movie has some interesting cinematography but it's not scary at all and the body count is racked up primarily in 2 scenes. Overall I would recommend saving the money for another movie.
I liked it...not as good as Get Out, but better than Us (which I wasn't a fan of).
I'd say this movie is more sci-fi than horror.
Prey... On Disney Plus... A prequel in the Predator series...

Saw Top Gun Maverick five times this summer (all in IMAX): incredible! This is the reason to see movies in theatres.
As @Chouin95 said, easily the best movie of 2022!
Top Gun: Maverick is a worthy flick. Got me heading to the theater. Last time I really enjoyed a movie and actually showed up at the theater was going to see The Martian in 2015. Lol
