I really enjoyed it. It’s one of those smart horror thriller types of movies. After i watched it i was surprised to learn it was directed by Soderbergh.haven't watched this yet, i'm curious since it's Soderbergh but i read mixed reviews on it, did you like it?
What kind of "review" is this? There are hundreds of horror movies that can be described with the same "review". It's more a teaser than a legit review.Presence (2024)
Dysfunctional family moves into a new home & it appears to ne possessed by an entity. I’m not going to say more
I’m sad & destroyed that you didn’t appreciate my review. What kind of "review" is this? There are hundreds of horror movies that can be described with the same "review". It's more a teaser than a legit review.
I was disappointed and devastated to hear that Soderbergh has ventured into horror films only to be given the most barebones details. This is the same guy who made Sex Lies and Videotape as a younger man, after all. I have an idea that it is a different kind of horror film but wanted to hear more about cast, filming style and location, ambience, etc., which can all be discussed without providing any spoilers.I’m sad & destroyed that you didn’t appreciate my review.![]()
If you want a better understanding of what the movie’s about just go to Wikipedia. You’ll actually get the entire movie explained to you if you wish. If you want to read well-written reviews of it just go to Rotten Tomatoes or use Google.I was disappointed and devastated to hear that Soderbergh has ventured into horror films only to be given the most barebones details. But then I get spoilers. I want the review mentioned above with no spoilers. If you want a better understanding of what the movie’s about just go to Wikipedia. Thanks for this, i'll probably give it a try this week-end, i, for one, appreciate your reviewsI really enjoyed it. It’s one of those smart horror thriller types of movies. After i watched it i was surprised to learn it was directed by Soderbergh.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate like 98% of Doc's reviews whether they be movies, TV shows, restaurants or escorts, and I have been reading them for almost 25 years, plus I have met the guy and actually really like him. It's just that this particular review was so lacking in movie review proteins that I felt like I had been punched in the face by the time I finished reading it. It was like going to a new burger restaurant, ordering their famous new burger, lifting up the bun, and not seeing any meat. It reminded me of those old "Where's The Beef?" Commercials. Anyone remember them?i, for one, appreciate your reviews![]()
CoolDon't get me wrong, I appreciate like 98%
I was disappointed in the review, but aggressive would be the wrong word, see my post above yours for my true feelings. It was just a burger served with a clearly insufficient portion of meat, and that's not what we usually get served from Doc. He just needed a reminder is all.Cool, to be honest i was a bit surprised by the fact that you seem really annoyed and a tiny bit aggressive. Especially since the board is probably more famous for "dick sucking reviews" than movies

Excellent review Johnny! A beefy burger! So back to Presence then
First of all, it is a Steven Soderbergh filck, so if you're not familiar with his work (and you probably are even if you never heard his name), you should check it.
Soderbergh is first and foremost a director of photography, that's what he enjoys and it shows in his movies.
Also this isn't an horror film, if you're expecting "paranormal activity paert 22 1/5" you will be disappointed.
The whole movie is shot in a "camera subjective" way (1st person perspective), so you follow everything through the "ghost" point of view.
As mentioned by @Doc Holliday It's mostly a story about the family that moves in the house and we follow their story, i wouldn't describe them as dysfunctional , let's just say each character have their own challenges and stories, and the movie is mostly about those stories from the ghost perspective.
It's a very short movie (less than 90 minutes) and it works way better this way.
Actors are quite good and the story flows.
Again, It's more of a "tranche de vie" than an horror film, of course things happen during those 90 minutes or there wouldn't be a movie.
is it the best Soderbergh? probably not, but it's very entertaining and it deserves better then the current 6.2 on IMDB.
So watch it and let us know.
I'm not sure if @EagerBeaver is trolling/joking, or is actually being serious lol.I was disappointed in the review, but aggressive would be the wrong word, see my post above yours for my true feelings. I cant find it online anywhere for free so I am not sure exactly where you guys are watching it or seeing it available. According to JustWatch, it's streaming on AppleTV for $9.99, same on Amazon Video but leaving in 7 days, same on Prime, and same on Fandango. All are offering it for an extra $9.99 rental fee.Or better yet, just WATCH THE MOVIE lol.
Is that the movie with George C. Scott? Surprisingly although i love old movies from the 60’s & 70’s that’s one that I don’t believe i’ve ever seen. I figured that this type of movie hasn’t aged well so the main reason why i’ve avoided it.The Hospital (1971)
I believe that the 52% rating by the fans is somewhat misleading since i don’t believe they fully understood it or appreciate good filmaking of they didn’t rate it higher. Personally i always follow a movie on wikipedia while i’m watching it in order not to miss anything. If i hadn’t done this while watching PRESENCE i would have missed a lot of hints & likely wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as i did.I'm not sure if @EagerBeaver is trolling/joking, or is actually being serious lol.
Plenty of sources with no spoilers. Or better yet, just WATCH THE MOVIE lol.
I'm a big fan of Soderbergh as well, but heard mixed reviews for Presence. Critics seem to like it (88% on RT), but audiences do not (52% on RT).
I'll probably check it out eventually. And yes, I do appreciate @Doc Holliday's reviews as well.
