What is the best recent movie you’ve seen.

I also saw it this week-end. It’s a very good movie for 2 reasons: Bane and Catwoman.

Bane is a great villain. As much as the joker but in a completely different way. It was very satisfying to watch him beat the crap out of batman. Catwoman is also very good, but I don’t like her suit. She does not look or act like a cat either, just like a boring burglar. I prefer her action scenes where she’s in plain clothes (or maid uniform).

What I don’t like about that trilogy is that it’s made to be more realistic. Somehow being realistic makes it less believable. It worked well with the Joker, made him a lot scarier but overall I miss the dark cartoonish world of the older batman’s.

The Human Centipede

Any of you guys see this movie? I was at a party last night and the talk of the party was this 2010 Dutch horror film called "The Human Centipede." Sounds somewhat similar to the film "Hostel" as far as the plot revolving around evil Europeans terrorizing American tourists, In any event it's the next movie in my Netflix queue.

Loved the "Dark Knight Rises" movie a few weeks ago @Scotiabank Theatre in UltraAVX. From now on, it's UltraAVX all the way whenever i feel like going to see a movie while in Mtl.

Even though i loved the movie (but found it very long), the last 'best recent movie' that i've seen was 'The Hunger Games'. I watched it online, chosing not to wait for the blu ray to come out. Very good movie, good story, and very good performance by the film's star, Jennifer Lawrence. The only negative was that once the movie was over, i wished i had seen it in a movie theatre instead.

I'd heard of this movie a few months ago, but missed it in the theaters, bought it on DVD as soon as I could: SHAME starring Michael Fassbender (played the german-speaking british soldier in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, Magneto in X-Men:First Class, and the android character in the recent Prometheus). Directed by british director Steve McQueen (no, not the dead Steve McQueen), Fassbender plays a New York advertising executive who is in the grip of full-on sexual addiction.

Fascinating stuff, and filled with very graphic imagery. Yes, we see glimpses of Fassbender's peter! He calls escorts, he masturbates on camera, he has copious amounts of hardcore sex sites in his work computer's historique.

He has major problems trying to have a regular relationship with a ''normal'' co-worker. Truly fascinating film as the story kicks it up a notch as his sister stays over at his place. There are no easy answers, and the film is sometimes punctuated with some very, very long unbroken shots, very reminescent of 70's cinema. In my book that is a very good thing.

Great film, will have to check the director's previous collaboration with Fassbender, Hunger.

I saw the Dark Knight Rises and thoroughly enjoyed it. Like Doc said, it was a bit long and tended to drag a bit in parts, but as I avoided all the hype and previews there were a couple of surprises that I didn't see coming. That's rare in a big budget blockbuster and I enjoyed that.

Never bothered with the Hunger Games and don't think I will. For one thing, I hate movies where characters have cute little names designed to attract the adolescent market like 'Katniss Everdeen'. Gimme a break. Besides, the entire premise is a total ripoff of Battle Royale a much superior Japanese movie that doesn't cater to the Twilight crowd like Hunger Games does. Give it a pass and watch Battle Royale with subtitles.

One of my favourite movies that I caught recently on MPix is Wild Target. A British dark comedy about a hitman with a great cast of Emily Blunt, Bill Nighy and Rupert Grint. If you like British comedy it's a must see. If your idea of great comedy is Adam Sandler movies, give it a pass.

What is the surgical technique that is used to connect these unfortunate individuals? Is this some kind of experiment to create a new animal, and see if it will survive? I put the movie in my Netflix queue and should get it end of next week. I read that the movie won several Horror Film awards and it got strong word-of-mouth from those at the party last night who saw it.

I got this movie from Netflix and watched it last night. It has to be the most shocking and disturbing film I have ever seen. I may need therapy just to get the movie out of my system.

One thing I did not understand is the scene in which the police pay a visit to the "mad" doctor. He is a brilliant surgeon and, presumably, a very intelligent person, whom you would think would just play dumb with the questions put to him by the police. Instead, he behaves very antagonistically and loses his temper at the police, causing them to leave and go get a search warrant for his house. This scene really did not make much sense. Of course, you do run into trouble trying to impute logical behavior to a character who is clearly insane.

Somewhere within this movie is a message about the danger of "playing God", but the film is so shocking and gruesome that the message gets completely buried in the carnage. I would estimate that less than 50% of viewers who rent this movie can actually watch it to the end. My cousin told me he couldn't, and he is a horror film aficianado.

I read that writer/director Tom Six claimed the film is "100% medically accurate." However this from wiki:

"Critics and a physician have dismissed Six's claim that the film was "100 percent medically accurate" as "ludicrous" and "rubbish". Dr John Cameron, speaking to TV3 News in New Zealand gave an interview about the feasibility of a human centipede, stating how he believed it would be difficult for a join between different people to heal and form a connection, and how the centipede would quickly die from lack of nutrition. John Martin, a former Hollywood film executive and CEO of Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas said Six's claims of 100 percent medical accuracy should be viewed with reference to the kind of shock gimmicks that film producers had long used to attract attention. Martin compared Six's claims to those of Kroger Babb and William Castle who had also made "grand promises" about what they were putting on screen in a bid to lure audiences."

Batman Begins

I watched this movie again the other night. Even though i already had it on dvd, i had to watch it in blu ray.

I must admit that even though i saw it at the movie theatre when it first came out, i didn't remember a single thing about it. Only after seeing Darknight Rises a couple of weeks ago did i find out that Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy & Katie Holmes ever starred in the Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy movies.

It felt like i had just watched it for the first time! I loved it!!!!!

The Dark Knight

I watched it again last night on bluray. I saw it at the movies when it came out (in IMAX). The only thing i remembered from it was that Heath Ledger played the joker & was great in it. Don't know how come i forgot the rest.

The movie is absolutely brilliant!! Very strong performances by all the lead actors, from Heath Ledger to Christian Bale to Morgan Freeman to Michael Cain to the guy who played Two-Face & the actress who replaced Katie Holmes (Maggie Gylenhal?).

This was a brilliant movie, with great sequences & strong story-telling. I was surprised that the Joker didn't die at the end of the movie. Ironic that the guy playing him wound up being dead a few months later.

I can't say enough great things about this movie! I'll watch it again and again!

The Expendables 2

Watched this movie in Ultra AVX. I absolutely loved it!!! A whole lot of fun, nonstop action, great cameos, funny lines, great cast, etc. I can't wait for the third installment (hopefully!) to come out!!

I just loved it!!!!!!!! It was worth every penny!!! Great entertainment!!!

I think i'll go watch "Fahrenheit 911" once again. Great, brilliant movie!! It won at the Cannes Film Festival that year & should have received an Oscar. Michael Moore, say what you want about him, is one hell of a great filmaker!!

(However, i didn't quite like the stuff he said about Clinton at the time)

Seriously i saw the first one...not the second though...is it better than the first one?

Sequels are rarely better than the original, but Hangover 2 was also surprisingly very funny. I saw The Expendables 2 the other day and liked it better than the first one. Same thing with Godfather 2, and i found 'The Dark Knight' superior to 'Batman Begins'. Spiderman 2 was also superior to its predecessor.
