As for your Four Seasons post...I think the best band to ever come out of New Jersey is Skid Row.

Skid Row had 2 Top 40 hits compared to 29 for the Four Seasons, but 1 of those 2 is a pretty good song:

"Let's Live For Today", is a song that was originally written and performed by the Rokes and released in Italy and was later redone by the Grass Roots in 1967 into a smash hit. The song is intriguing for a couple of reasons, first I think it stands musically and lyrically as an anthemic song of the 1960s counterculture movement, and second the lead guitar by non Grass Roots member P.F. Sloan, who was actually their producer, is very interesting and different sounding to me than anything that was being done at that time. Yet I think the Sloan lead guitar drives the song and gives it a European feel. Which isn't surprising since the song has Italian origins:

And to continue this story: The actual lead guitarist of the Grass Roots in concert when it started was a guy named Creed. He was so frustrated because Sloan wouldn't let him play lead on the actual recordings that he eventually left the group, did alot of drugs, traveled around the world and finally landed in Scranton, PA doing quality assurance for a paper company. You might remember this guy from the TV show "The Office".(A running joke on the show, but the part about him being in the Grass Roots and doing drugs is true.)

I searched the entire thread and there is not a single mention of either Franki Valli or the Four Seasons. Not even from Sene. other than Bruce Springsteen (with apologies to Jon Bon Jovi LOL), the "Jersey Boys" had 29 Billboard Top 40 hits- 29! And they were international stars for a very long time. Below are 3 of their best known hits and my personal favorites from these guys, spanning the years 1964 (Rag Doll) to 1976 (December, 1963). Note that Franki Valli was their lead singer but on "December 1963", the lead singer was drummer Gerry Polci with Franki singing the fabulous bridge section and backing vocals:

Great group. Great Broadway show. And three great selections for songs (I would also include "Dawn" and "I've Got You Under my Skin" to make it my favorite five from them.)

Another band not mentioned in this thread is the Grateful Dead. They performed the very first concert I ever saw, March 1981 in Hartford, which was amazing, before a sold out crowd at the then Hartford Civic Center (16,000). My favorite Grateful Dead song is one that was designated a "national treasure" in 1997 by the United States Library of Congress. It features a legendary guitar lead by Jerry Garcia and tells the real life story of the drug bust on the band's New Orleans hotel lodgings in early 1970 during one of their many long tours:

EB - You bring back my memories of living in Hartford. The DeadHeads used to come into town and camp out in Bushnell Park. What a mess and a sea of garbage the next day. That being said I went to the Civic Center to see them once and it was a great show. (Jerry Garcia also great pedal steel guitar lead on CSNY's "Teach Your Children")

I just finished reading Graham Nash's autobiography - "Wild Tales." All his years with CSN(Y) sound like repeating the same mistakes over and over again. They all get together in a house. They do a bunch of drugs. There are plenty of available women around the house. They write some songs. They get into the studio and argue. Then one by one they storm out of the studio. Oh and Neil Young is really weird. Nash said he has known Neil for 50 years, but he doesn't really know him cause he's weird.
