Janis Joplin, Piece of my heart

On October 4, 1970, she died. Already 50 years old.

Was listening to channel 6 on Sirius- the 60s channel- when on came this song which is particularly appropriate on this board and for many hobbyists. Not making any judgments here because I like younger women myself (so long as they are legal), but the song is about someone who is borderline. The opening line says it all- "Young Girl, get out of my mind.......my love for you is way out of line!!!!!!!!"

The legendary Gary Puckett and The Union Gap:

Gary's vocals on this song are great!

The only mention in this thread of Elvis Presley, after 3,390 posts, was by Lily-Rose. It's shocking and appalling to me that she would be the only one who appreciates the KING OF ROCK AND ROLL, so to remedy this travesty, I will post what I believe to be both Elvis's most underrated song, and his best song, which were both released later in his career. This one is from 1970 and I find it to be a very underrated and underplayed song by Elvis, although it's in regular rotation on Sirius Radio's Elvis Channel, which I have been playing a lot lately for my father at his request when we travel in my car. It's really a beautiful song, and reminds me of a buddy of mine who lives in the State of Kentucky:

My favorite Elvis song, Suspicious Minds. 1969, right after his Comeback Special. There are various live performance videos of this song, which I refuse to post because he is high as a kite in all of them, and not at his best. So I post the studio version containing a collage of his life:

Great song but I prefer his 50s hits, especially Too Much, A Big Hunk O´Love, Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog and my fave, A Fool Such As I.
Yes Elvis Radio on SIRIUS is pretty good.
I have the 68 Comeback Special on DVD. If I Can Dream is an amazing song featuring one of his greatest vocal performances.
The King was actually my introduction to rock music when I was a kid even though he was from an earlier generation. My uncle left a box of Elvis LPs at our house and I really got into them. Guess I was about 8 or so. My fave was Greatest Hits Vol. 2, the one where he is wearing the iconic gold suit. For some reason lots of my fave songs are on there. He seemed to have put out his best stuff when he was in the army!

The Who, Baba O'Riley

Pete Townshend, the most underrated tambourine player ever.

You gotta love the way he throws that tambourine!
And the windmill style crash chording is pretty cool too.
Thanks for posting this clip...been awhile since I have watched it.
This is one of the many classic performances featured in the film The Kids Are Alright. I actually saw it with my buddies at the old Seville Theater. Anyone remember that place? Haha!
Btw this was from the last live show the Who ever did with Keith Moon.

John Lennon born October 9 1940, would have been 80 today. One of my very favorite underrated Lennon songs - Rain.
Recorded for the Revolver album, but pulled to be the backside of the "Paperback Writer" single. Overlooked at the time, but now is considered a classic by many(appears on the Rolling Stone's 500 greatest songs of all time list). May be the first great psychedelic rock song that features amazing playing by Ringo, Paul & George as backup and John's impeccable vocals.

Gary, I totally agree.

I'm biased on the Beatles, I've got it all.

For no one (Revolver)
Magnificent song, one of McCartney's most beautiful, but also one of the saddest in the Beatles' repertoire. The lyrics tell us the story of a young man who gets dumped by his girlfriend.

For once we are in complete agreement, Gary.
For me the Paperback Writer/Rain 45 from 1966 is the best and most guitar-heavy single the Beatles ever put out ( both A & B sides considered).

Bbw I agree with you
I love this one

Girl (Rubber soul)

Composition by Lennon written in a hurry, in order to be able to complete the album, and be able to release it for the end of the year holidays. John talks about girls and especially about the fact that they can fill us as much as they make us suffer.

(The Beatles, white album)
Happiness is a warm gun
The idea to write this song was inspired by an American gun magazine. He also makes a metaphor for fellatio, and his growing relationship with Yoko

John Lennon would have been 80 years old, today
