Im my experience, since i have done both (partner at an agency, and then indy) it takes very different skills for both.

I personally do not have what it takes to run an agency, I am too sensitive and emotional, business and PR skills are not enough, you need THICK SKIN!

Being an indy is different, business and PR skills are still important, but being good and consistent in the service we offer and building actual relationships with our regulars is more important than being consistently good business people.

just my two cents :)
big hugs!

totaly agree with you on this one. me and my girlfriend are more looking for long good regular relationship with very few girls, instead of going for different girl every weeks.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Okay, I could never do it simply because I could never send out the ladies to be alone with strangers. That temperament lies somewhere between having guts and confidence to being satisfied with the risk you are putting the ladies in.

If you did run an agency your first priority is to do all the basics that keep an agency functioning and that comes with two basically equal parts:

1A - Keep the ladies happy/satisfied about what they are doing.

1B - Keep open the prospect of bringing as many clients as possible.

The owner/manager has to be mature and keep it together making clear-headed decisions that are good for functioning of the agency. Obviously being lazy, a hard drinker, or one who frequently dabbles in drugs and doesn't pay the bills and is a kamikaze character risking self-destruction eventually.

The owner/manager has to see to it that every client is handled with equal respect whether they are higher or lesser spenders. Personal issues beyond the agency should never be allowed to interfere with that. Many in the general public may not care about such things but many will. Avoid a position that risks cutting out future income possibilities.

The owner/manager must protect profits at all costs. See everything above. In business some clients get favored status which includes discounts. That's natural and smart for profit reasons to build a steady clientele. But when it reaches a situation where...1. the ladies feel they are being exploited, 2. it's so overdone that the profit margin keeps dwindling, then you can end up damaging or imploding the entire organization.

The owner/manager must always be as fair as possible to all staff and clients. Nothing starts to work against an agency faster than a staff that becomes divided into favorites and those who feel they are being treated unfairly even if it's sometimes imagined. It takes great skill and a lot of careful consideration to keep this from happening. It goes the same for clients. Be very careful not to promote factions that can't help but cut your business potential. Even with criticism it's fine to refute it but don't get carried away with anger. Many people may be on your side but bad publicity never helps.

Watch out for the wannabe-hangers-on. Again this could be to the agency's advantage if the situation expands the business, but be careful not to go too far. Ask yourself if these people are really keeping your interest in mind or their own. Pay attention to what is happening. Are your ladies happy with what is going on? Is the association expanding your business to it's full potential or is a person or group becoming controlling and overbearing to the point of dissatisfaction among the staff and clients? It's a tricky balance that needs very careful watching. Passing off any segment of control to self-interested people is very risky.

Don't let your current high popularity make you lazy about taking care of all the necessary details. Stay sharp and wise.

Good luck,

Merlot

A bachelor's degree in Communications is not a necessity, but is a valuable asset.

Same goes for a bachelor's degree (or master's) in Business Administration.

You must be able to express yourself well & have a certain degree of patience. A people's person type is a bonus.

Previous working experience at a well-known company or organization, such as NASA or Microsoft is not required. Impressive yes, but required no.

You need to be organized
You need to be client oriented
You need to be honest
You need to be respectful towards the girls and the clients
You need to know the business
You need to be serious when needed
You need to be a go-to guy essentially

Gnetlemen,

What about credibility?

One big thing about that. What's the benefit of publishing negativity or allowing anyone promoting the agency's services to do so. Does anyone think letting your potential clients know you have a banned list makes the agency seem like a friendly and helpful place to do business with. Then going back on that and trying to actually recruit clients from that list of those people who don't like you. Credibility? GONE!

Do not mix business with pleasure: no fraternization with the staff, strangely enough for a sex related business but I think a manager who would sleep with the staff is not a good manager...

Too bad bordello are illegal and the milieu is filled by shady characters because I would I would have love to be a madam, I think I would have been great...ah well...maybe another lifetime...
